Of course, the article says that the new owners are keeping the teams (they bought the WNBA Storm as well) in Seattle. Given recent happenings regarding financial losses in the Emerald City, I'm not holding my breath about the truth of that statement.| Promote this thread! | | JayJayDean

| #2 Posted on 18.7.06 1516.21 | Instant Rating: 6.44 | Maybe THESE guys (if they want to) will be able to strike a deal with the city council and mayor. EVERYONE knows and acknowledges that their lease is sucky, but they just got KeyArena redone ten years ago and the taxpayers here aren't exactly jazzed about footing any of the bill for yet another new stadium.
Howard and Wally have bungled their side of the stadium-situation at every step, and the city council and mayor are in a pissing match with each other, so the Sonics aren't going to get anywhere (except outta town) unless these new guys can make it happen.
They are SO outta here. Buh-bye, Sonics! FUCK Howard Schultz and Wally Walker.

Did you hear something locally? What changed your tune?

The press conference was at 3:00 Pacific. They only mentioned OKC about half-a-dozen times, and they basically said they'd give the team 12 months to make a plan for a new arena or they're gone, and NO ONE thinks they'll actually get the arena thing done. It was pretty disheartening as a Sonics fan.
I expect the papers tomorrow to have a "there as good as gone"-theme.
