| #1 Posted on 23.2.02 1421.23 | Instant Rating: 6.09 | Guys, I have some questions for a column I want to write for Slash, and I hope you have some answers. I'm talking about the pre-monthly PPV era here, and please name the promotion. I could make general assumptions based on what I read, but I am looking for first-hand experience here. The questions:
Who is a wrestling champion (world champion only) who was known for never defending his title?
What are some heel/face turns that you though were extremely well done and why?
What are your favorite feuds (keep in mind, pre-12 PPV annually era) and why?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: If you would like to have any input in this survey, I need your reponse by midnight tonight.

The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Ronnie Garvin, who "was allowed" to not defend his title from when he won it from Flair until Starrcade(87?)

The ones that spring to mind are the Orndorff turn on Hogan and Windham turning on Luger and joining the Horsemen. Throw in the Horsemen turning on Sting (clash 1990) and cornette turning on the dynamic dudes (clash 9).

Midnight vs. Midnight. Only a heel like Paul E. could make the marks cheer Cornette. Freebirds vs. Von Erich DiBiase vs. Duggan Rhodes vs. Sullivan Flair vs. Steamboat

| #3 Posted on 23.2.02 1730.54 | The only one I have right now is Piper vs. Hogan, which was the feud that really launched the modern WWF. I mean, the Saturday Morning Cartoon was based on it.
DiBiase vs. Jake Roberts was great.
I don't think Andre defended the title when he had it. Although that might have something to do with the Hogan/Andre finish, I forget.

| #6 Posted on 24.2.02 0036.38 | It seemed like Luger didn't really defend his title much during his first title reign. Or Flair in his last pre-WWF jump reign.
For heel turns the Andre heel turn was well done and logically built. Luger turning heel by attacking Steamboat at a live Clash was a good shock. And another vote for Windham going to the Horsemen, which still is the most shocking one ever for me.
Best feud: Flair vs. Funk, the eternal R&R vs. Midnights, Flair vs. Steamboat, Jake Roberts vs. Rick Rude, and Koloff vs. Magnum TA.
There, I feel better now. |
