The following post expresses the opinions of a raving Jerichoholic. He is biased, opinionated and bitter. You have been warned.

Huge wave of nostalgia + $60 burning a hole in my pocket = NES, 2 controllers, Super Mario Brothers, Duck Hunt, Hogan's Alley and WrestleMania!

Now that I've done my victory dance, I've discovered that somethings are still missing. Besides eBay, does anyone know of any places that might sell:

Super Mario Brothers 3
SMB 2
Jackal
light gun
1943
Double Dribble

As of Monday, April 21 at 12:55 AM, the Boston Red Sox' Magic Number to clinch the AL East is 147. A combination of 147 Red Sox wins and New York Yankees losses will guarantee the AL East for the Boston Red Sox.

SIXTY BUCKS? Ack. If you think you're doing a victory dance right now, you should see the seller.

I thought it was a touch steep, too, but NES is getting to be a legitimate antique-type item. I think. Either that or GameStop hosed me.

Check and see if you have a used-video-game store in town. That's where I got my NES, and I bet they have Double Dribble, 1943, and the light gun (all of which I must posess) on sale right now.

Check mini-malls and such for this type of establishment. Good, nostalgia is.

Vimm.net has a section called the Vault Store where you can purchase old NES carts as well as accessories such as the Light Gun.

I had Mario Bros. 3, but I think I gave it to my grandma. Try looking in used video game stores.

In almost all situations, it's safe to assume that the phrase "GameStop hosed me" is accurate. They absorbed FuncoLand, which had a long and infamous history of being the place where used games went to die. (To this day, the phrase "Would you also like to buy a cleaning kit" sends shudders of horror through veteran FuncoLand customers.)

To put it in perspective, Electronics Boutique sells used SEGA DREAMCASTS, PlayStations and Nintendo 64s IN MALLS for less than that (either $29.99 or $39.99, I'd have to check what their current rates are), and about $20 for a Genesis or a Super Nintendo. Their clearance outlets (EB GameWorld) sometimes have even better deals. GameStop themselves sells Nintendo 64 packs (two systems newer) for $35, and the f'ing GAMECUBE preowned for $90.

As for "antique item," there are approximately 4,581,227,765 NES units out there right now, 3,481,220,557 of which are available at yard sales. (Only the Atari 2600 and PlayStation are just as likely to turn up in somebody's garage for sale.)

That having been said, you've got it, it works and you're happy with it, so what the hell -- it's only money. (Just try not to give much more of it to GameStop, because if they're calling the NES an antique and selling it for tine-and-a-half-to-DOUBLE what they sold it for as FuncoLand, they're bastards.)

ANYWAY.

If you can get to an Electronics Boutique/EBX/EB Gameworld, try them. If you can get to a flea market, farmers' market, or other place-where-people-drag-their-junk-on-weekends, try THEM. If you happen to see yard sales pop up in your local paper, go for a ride on Saturday morning and see what they've got. Thrift shops sometimes have 'em (Goodwill and their ilk -- I used to find lots of Atari stuff there when I was building my formidable collection.)

Dammit vsp, you beat me to it. -_- Thrift stores are your friends here, ESPECIALLY if they're anything like the ones in VA. Someone I know there finds all sorts of classic console stuff there... the best I've done was Golf (in box, with instructions and all promo material) for $4. Other than that, try a different GameStop... I know the Funcoland around here doesn't really screw you.

But by all means, NEVER GO TO THEIR WEBSITE. I ordered an NES RF switch off their site. They sent me an S-Video cable for an N64. -_-;;;

Your Official Sunday, April 13, 2003 Randomly Selected Wiener Of The Day Champion says....

Always try E-Bay. I got the nostalgia wave not too long ago and went looking for NES stuff. After months of debating I finally went ahead and bought a NES and games off E-Bay. I was expecting them to be damaged or something yet they work great and I was happy in the end.
