I'd fall in love with the Knicks again if they got Van Exel... maybe even trade some filler (or even *gasp* Allan Houston) for Artest and Bender. Dump his huge salary, give Bird a guy who can shoot and an heir apparent to the aging Reggie Miller. But these are just pipe dreams.

The NY papers have been making up Knick trades all summer. Considering that's the home base of Peter Vescey, it doesn't surprise me. Yeah I know Spree did get traded but I believe where he eventually ended up (T-Wolves) wasn't one of the rumored teams beforehand.
As for Artest, he is a BYC player so he will be virtually impossible to trade unless a team that is way under the salary cap is involved.
The 1985 NBA Draft Lottery, when the Knicks' envelope was bent, was the most-obvious rig job ever, and it landed the Knicks Patrick Ewing. Today's method would make it virtually impossible to rig, I would think.
