It truly and deeply breaks my heart that the two major parties could not field two decent candidates and our election came down to this.
I am curious to what the future hold for the next four years. President Elect Trump made a lot of crazy Homer Simpson* style promises. I wonder what his hard core followers are going to do when he has trouble keeping them.

I agree. I explained to my daughter (16) that I was not upset about who would win, I was upset at who we had to choose from. Even the 3rd party candidates were awful. It was depressing to think these are the four best people we could come up with to run for President?
I remember seeing one lady come out of voting and being interviewed. They asked her who she voted for and she said she would not say but she was already second guessing her choice. Crazy.
I hope Trump does well. I hope that he takes the job seriously and professionally and represents my country well.
Life is hilariously cruel.
It ain't the six minutes... it's what happens in that six minutes.

How, how is President Trump going to address the nation after a white supremacists kill nine in a church in South Carolina? After a man kills fifty homosexuals in a club in Florida? It seems that he ran a campaign geared towards those nut jobs and their fears for this country.

Normally, my first response would be to wait and see, but… My Husband and I have friends and honest to God family in the LGBTQ community who are now bloody terrified. The woman who FUCKING SAVED MY HUSBANDS’S LIFE is now terrified.*
I think president elect Trump is a genuine classic narcissist. If you think I am restating the obvious, feel free to mock me, lol. As such, I think his presidential campaign was run on narcissism, causing him to say whatever he thought people would want to hear. And causing him to make all of his crazy Homer Simpson style promises. Unfortunately for all of us, but especially Trump himself, he made those promises to a segment of our population who will cause the most trouble if he doesn’t deliver. And the segment of our country that is armed with guns.
Instead of bolstering his ginormous ego, what really happened is that President elect Trump is now riding a vicious tiger, and if he fails and falls off, it will hurt. I might find this funny in an ironic way except again, the people he is going to disappoint have guns and are probably going to shoot innocent people when they don’t get what they want.
I hope it is now dawning on him what he got himself into. He now is stuck in a job, a job requiring real honest hard work, living under a true microscope, dealing with and surrounded by people who truly LOATHE him that he can’t get rid of or fire on a whim.

If I am reading our nation’s future population demographics correctly, our country is becoming racially more diverse. In my own opinion, if the Republican Party does not do something radical themselves, they as a party will be dead within two generations.
Trump’s presidency might be the Republican Party one last chance. (Someone else on this board may be able to tell me when the last time the Republicans controlled the House, Senate, and Presidency at the same time.) President elect Trump did not win with a huge landslide, he barely squeaked by. He does not have a general mandate to do as he likes; there are protests already. If it wasn’t for our Electoral College system, he might not have won at all.
Trumps presidency might be the Republican Party one last chance. I am curious to see what they do. If they mess this up, will it kill the party that much quicker?
So, 1928 was the last time the Republicans controlled all three, so to speak, at an election. During George W Bush's administration, in the middle from 2003 to 2007, they also controlled all three.
But this is the first time a republican president has started with both houses since Hoover in 1928 - take of that what you will.
I, as a longtime republican, don't really consider Trump what we would really call a republican.
But I will say this: I felt like the current President was so unqualified and so different from my views when he was elected. But when he was elected, I wasn't involved in any riots, and to my recollection, no one else on my side was either. I support our president and I support our government. I trust our people.

Hoover had other issues before his term that led to the Great Depression. Those are not in place now but if some of the changes he and some of Congress want are made, we are in deep crap. We in Kansas have been living through what is essentially what they want and are state is in a deep, deep mess. Trickle down does not work.
And no he isn't a Republican or a Democrat but a populist demagogue. However, he isn't stupid. He is very ignorant on many issues but not stupid. And he had the instincts to figure out what the people were feeling. So we will see.

D The Tea Party magically showed up after Obama. So, I am ok with the protesting especially when you hear about voter suppression in Wisconsin and Florida. I will not support a President who used racism to get elected and is under multiple investigation including handing the country over to Russia.

But you're cool with the other nominee using class warfare, and selling nuclear material to Russia? Not to mention. All the crap WikiLeaks proved she was up to, or at least privy to?
I don't like Trump, but Jesus Hillary was so much worse of an option.
I think Trump and his cabinet will not burn the country to the ground. Or the world. I do fear for recession and more cold war type stuff. But nothing we haven't seen or dealt with before.
What really scares me is what apparently is already going on. His election gave a voice to the disgruntled anti-everything layer of society. They now feel it's their time. Already reports of hate crimes are up. 5 days after the election. He isn't even in power yet! If only 50% of those are true then the USA just set a huge step back in a lot of areas. The worst is yet to come.
I do understand the protests (heh didn't Trump call for the same if he had lost?) but I do hope the people involved will be smart enough to take the high road. Peaceful protest, willingness to talk instead of blatant ridiculous partisanship. Show the rest of the country that you are better than "them" that you are not also "deplorable".
I thought (with great shock) that Dave Chappelle was pretty much right on with this on SNL Last night. I think he hit the marks right.
and the Tea Party concept was before Obama, although that is when it started being called that. Citizens for a Sound Economy (which I was a member of) used USTEAPARTY.COM maybe as far back as in the 90s - but certainly during W's presidency. Ron Paul was a part of that.

You mean, like, suggesting that poor people might have a right to be alive? Class warfare is exactly what the Republicans have been giving us.

What in the world are you talking about? Donald Trump is the one who is militantly pro-Russia. Ask the people of the Baltic states who they think poses a threat in this area.

Yeah...I mean, sure, Trump allies himself with Vladimir Putin, installs a literal neo-Nazi as his chief strategist, bribed the Attorney General who was investigating him for fraud with an illegal campaign contribution, and has sexually assaulted at least a dozen women, possibly including a 13-year-old girl--but Hillary Clinton talked about CAMPAIGN STRATEGY! And kept her emails on the wrong server! And had some supporters in her party's committee who may have been a little overzealous in supporting her! The HORRORS!
I'd rather not have a President-elect whose election has led to friends being scared and friends' young children being told that they're going to be deported and bonafide swastikas spraypainted on an abandoned building in a Latino area where I deliver pizzas.

Really, I think considering the vitriol of the campaign this thread is fine.
BTW, I figured out what AWA (EDIT: Sorry, no, that was Stagger Lee. Apologies.) meant by "selling nuclear material to Russia." In 2010, the Russian government purchased a controlling interest in a company which produces uranium in the US. Clinton's State Department--along with 6 other Cabinet departments, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and a couple of other agencies--had to approve the deal. However, it is still illegal for this company to sell any uranium to Russia, and in fact all of its production is likely to stay in the US, as the US is a net importer of the stuff.
I think this is just the tip of the iceburg. It demonstrates that Hussein did indeed have no problem hiding things with his scientists, in completely off the wall places.
