I know in Norfolk they had Mermaids and I think Toronto had Moose.

| #2 Posted on 10.1.02 1255.02 | In Springfield, they have a GIANT broze bear on the Southeast Missouri State Campus. It's the school's mascot. We also have The Wonders of Wildlife museum, owned by the National Fish and Wildlife Association and the museum is HUGE. Anyway, outside it is the GIGANTIC Bronze Deer. It was a donation from Bass Pro Shops, who have their world headquarters down here.
Sorry. I'm rambling.
Here's where my post gets interesting. I promise.
Where I went to college, in Warrensburg, there's a statue dowtown of a dog named Old Drum. It has nothing to do with the university or anything. It actually commemorates the trial over a dog that was shot by it's owner's neighbor and brother-in-law who suspected that Drum was the dog that had been killing his sheep.
They even made a frickin' MOVIE about this case, starring Scott Bakula.
Anyway, the statue was...ahem...anatomically correct and students would often sneak down to the statue and paint Drum's...er, thing...red.

OMG, Dean!!--there are like all these fish statues popping up in Baltimore, too!! They're mostly being spotted at Park entrances and look to be made of recycled metals and what not.

We had Snoopy statues in ST Paul for a good year, on almost every street corner. Other than that, not much. Oh, and a BIG spoon with a cherry in the bowl.

When I was at the state fair last year I got to see all the Charlie Browns - well, lots of them anyway.
Then for Christmas I bought my parents the big book that had pictures of ALL the Snoopys AND Charlie Browns.
Also, I have pictures of me and Kim with the cherry and spoon AND a box of Dayton's (although they're not Dayton's anymore) chocolate cherries with the sculpture prominently displayed - Christmas gift from Kim's brother.
Now, if only I had my OWN statue to talk about...but, alas. Remind me to tell you about the Modesto Arch some day, though. Woooo. Talk about exciting. Here's what it looked like 82 years ago.

Actually, my buddy's high school has a bear statue in the court yard area, but that's way in Downey.

The Cerne Abbas Giant was used as the logo of a local company selling oysters (with the slogan "I bet he eats Abbotsbury Oysters, which, okay, is only funny really if you've seen the Carling Black Label adverts too).

HEY! Do not speak ill of the cows. Not only did they rock to have all over the city, and start this whole damn national trend, but do you know how many tourists came just to look at a bunch of ceramic painted cows?! I loved the cows personally, they added a dash of color and levity to a way too serious urban environment.

| #20 Posted on 11.1.02 1729.38 | I haven't seen it in awhile, but I remember that there was a Quetzocoatl snake statue on the south end of Cesar Chavez Park. I remember thinking that it looked like a big turd since it was brown. A couple months ago Arnold Schwarzenegger came to the Tech Museum and did some stuff with kids. They all made big, decorated fiberglass shark statues. They were all colorful and cool looking so the city put up a bunch all over downtown. After a couple of weeks they were thinking of taking them down because many people vandalizing them. Some are still up but are in danger because some blind people say that they violate the Americans with Disabilities Act. Anyway I'm rambling, so that's it.
