I passed out and was taken to the hospital. It seems my kidneys are completely blocked thanks to kidney stones. They shut down and I hadn't urinated for over four days. I was also throwing up everything I was eating and drinking. Even water just came right back out. I was walking around like that for four days before my body just gave out on me.

In the hospital, the put in a stint so I could pee. but the kidney failure was worse than expected. They're getting better, but it's gonna be about a month or so before they can operate to unblock the stones that are built up.

Partial blame is, of course, on me. More blame goes to the quack doctors out in California as well. California is NOT the place to get sick at. Two different doctors only wanted me to get the marijuana card because I was in pain instead of regular pain medication. Another doctor actually convinced me that drinking alcohol would help me by making my kidneys work faster at pumping out the kidney stones. I still can't believe I believed that shit.

Luckily for me, I was already planning on moving back to Florida during this time. I've been back here for four weeks now. I absolutely believe that If this had happened back in Los Angeles, I'd be dead right now.

If you're living in Los Angeles or planning on visiting there, don't get sick. Definitely don't go to Kaiser Hospital on Sunset, the doctors are fucking stupid and ignorant and just wanna get you on pot. I'm considering suing that fucking place. Just thinking about it makes me wanna throw up right now.

Anyway, almost died, but thanks to Florida you people are stuck with me for a while longer. I'm kinda glad to still be here.

DAMN MAN

Well, that's good that you didn't die. But man the pain you must be in. I've heard horror stories about kidney stones and the pain they cause.

You might jump over and copy/paste to the Worst Advice thread - that alcohol thing has to be right up there.

Glad you're doing better. Sounds like a scary situation, and kidney stone pain can only make it about a million times worse.

But yea, take that alcohol advice and post it in the "worst advice I've ever gotten" thread.

I did not know there was a Worst Advice thread. I am also kinda lazy, so a link would be nice.

Thanks.

EDIT: And yes, the pain. The pain is horrible. A female doctor told me that she had the stones a few years ago and it was worse than the pain she had giving birth to her twins. TWINS!

When I do pass a stone, I was calling them my children.

I suffered through a kidney stone about ten years ago, and it was without question the greatest pain I've ever been in. After an hour I had someone take me straight to the hospital, so I have no idea how you made it four days. I was lucky enough that the stone broke up and I didn't have to pass it - I'm not envying you that procedure. Glad you came out alright, and good luck passing the stones.

Alright, I'll be the A-hole that asks...

Maybe I'm just misreading your post, and if I am then my bad. But how did you not go see a doctor or head to a hospital MUCH sooner? I would think after a mere 12 hours of not being able to pee and not being able to keep food or liquid down, I'd assume something terribly wrong was happening to me. Just askin'.

Here's the bad advice thread:

Congrats on still being among us!

Kidney stones are no kind of fun. My appendicitis hurt less than my kidney stone did. Get better!

Not an asshole at all, valid question. Sadly, passing the stones already cause the puking and and no peeing. I thought I was just passing a stone or two. Unfortunately, the symptoms I had been getting from the stones was the same as my kidneys shutting down, so I didn't know the difference.

Perhaps it wasn't clear that I've had the kidney stone problem for about five months now. I've almost gotten used to the horrendous pain thanks to tons of Advil. The 'hospital' I went to did not do the proper test on me to see just how bad they were AND ALSO gave me terrible medical advice on how to treat them.

I hope you do not mean Kaiser Permanente.

They are why I hate HMOs. Kaiser screwed up about 20 years ago when I thought I had just sprained my ankle. They took an x-ray because I was in alot of pain and they said it was just a muscle sprain. 6 months later the pain finally went away. 2 years after that, I rolled that ankle again and it hurt even worse.

After another x-ray, they said I re-aggravated my hairline fracture. I asked "What hairline fracture?" They said from my previous injury. I had spent 6 months walking around on a broken foot and now my right foot is a half size bigger than my left because of it.

YES! Those fuckers almost killed me. Avoid that fucking shithole at all costs.

It was all about managing the pain to them, not what to do to STOP the pain. Fucking terrible.

Sorry you went through the same 'treatment' I did.

Above all else, I'm glad you got proper care eventually and I'm happy to hear that you're doing better.

That being said, your first post seemed to throw the entire city/state of Los Angeles, California under the bus because of the shabby treatment you received at one hospital. I hope that part was just an in-rant joke?

Also not sure why you waited for four days of no urination and not being able to keep food/liquids down before you did something about it. I read your explanation, still seems odd to me. Actually, it sounds like you passed out and ended up at the hospital by other means (someone else called 911?). So how long would you have waited if you hadnt passed out?

Anybody watch this? It seems that Wednesday nights will now be a night spend in front of the TV, at least at 10 PM. I'm a huge Denis Leary fan, and the show reminds me of "The Job", with a little more grittiness, and a little less humor.
