Has anyone played the Hard mode yet? How is it? And is the path to the Power Bomb thru Phazon mines the hardest section of the game before the end?

I didn't beat it on hard mode, but I did beat it. I don't plan on going back and collecting stuff for the perfect ending...I've read the ending spoilers and I don't think it would be worth it.
Yes, the beginning of the Phazon Mines is bar-none the hardest segment of the game. There are a zillion and a half Space Pirates before you get to the invisible attack drone and the Power Bombs.
I died about 10 times before I finished that section. But once I did, I was home-free.

I played it once for a while at a friend's place on Hard mode...

I beat the first level on my first try without dying at all, so that must be a good sign... my friend wanted to beat me up after that, 'cause he had a hard enough time with it on easy.

I guess I must be a... STUPER GENIOUS when it comes to games or something.

But, if I had a Gamecube, that would most definetly be a game that I'd get.

Just got the game a few days ago (wonderful Mother and the $50 Best Buy gift certificate for my birthday) and I love it. The most amazing thing to me about it is that they really went all out with keeping aspects of the original Metroid intact, from the music that plays when you start the game from a save point, to the giant ass elevator platforms between regions, to the fact that you can just get lost exploring, and have to backtrack a LOT to pick things up. Hell, even the energy spheres and missile ammo looks the same.
My first problem hit when I ran into the giant-ass rock monster, but aside from that, it has been pretty smooth sailing. I just uncovered an "image gallery" and kind of thought it was weak- do you uncover a bunch of stuff, or is it just a few things like that?

This is the post that makes me want to buy it. But my one lingering doubt - does the first-person perspective ruin it? Be honest. When I think of Metroid, I think of side-scrolling.

Not at all- but I know where you are coming from. That was my ONE serious drawback prior to buying this game, the first person view.
After playing for a short while, that doubt was gone. I simply do not think a game like this could be DONE in the third person ( I mean, they could go Mario-third-person-style, but that would make things a lot worse, trust me), but there is no need to. And, you get plenty of shots of Samus every time you get an upgrade, and the Morph-ball mode IS in third person, and you actually see Samus for a few seconds as she returns to normal mode.
This game IS Metroid- It has the Metroid feel, which is the most important thing. After 10 minutes, you won't even remember you had a doubt about the first-person perspective...

MEtroid Prime is definitely one of the best games ever. I bought that for my Gamecube and my friend bought Unreal Tournament for the Xbox, and the framerate alone on MP blows Unreal out of the water.

I died more than anywhere on the first few levels of the Phazon Mines the first time through, but only because I didn't have enough energy tanks. Second time through I had lots of energy and knew where all the enemies were so it was a lot easier.

After you defeat the Omega Pirate the game becomes very, very easy in my opinion. It actually fun though to walk around collecting the rest of the items and killing everything is sight with ease.

I'd say the hardest boss was the Omega Pirate so watch out for him if you haven't been there yet. The last guy is also hard and took me a few times, but only a few and I'm definitely not the best gamer out there.

I would recommend this game to anyone and everyone and is worth buying a Gamecube for, especially now since you get it free with a GC system.

Just bought it. All my fears about it being a first-person shooter were moot. This game is a blast. I was only able to get to the first save point before having to go to work, but I'll be back.

First impressions:

- The controls are pretty easy to get accustomed to, even if you're not used to Quake/Halo/etc. Targeting is easy, so is strafing.

- It's easy to stay on track. One of my big complaints about this type of game is that I get lost easily in them. This seems to keep you pretty much on course.

- Scanning things with the visor is a cool touch, but can get distracting.

- The way they change the camera angle for the morph ball is great. Nice job staying faithful to the original game.

All in all, it's been a lot of fun so far.

It's great, isn't it asteroidboy?
I think the music is one of the finest parts of the game. It is so understated and eerie. Most games have loud, bombastic rock music but this music is actually inspiring and relaxing, but in the background so that you hardly notice it.
I sometimes actually find myself dreading what may be around the next corner. Those Space Pirates are nasty! (though they need a more menacing name, or something better anyway). I love the "BWARRGGH!" noise they make when they see you.
When I first got the game, I had to take frequent breaks because it gave me motion sickness. That speaks to the game's greatness because it feels real and sucks you in.

Jeez, finally got out of that exploding space station and landed on the planet.

One question, is there any way to switch between target if you've got multiple enemies in your sights? I've gotten plowed a couple of times because I haven't been able to do it. But then again, I'm also used to the Grand Theft Auto school of targeting...

SPOILERZ!
Asteroidboy, I answer your question in this post, but I also am a bit of a jerk by revealing a super-cool weapon you will receive later in the game, so if you don't want to know about it, skip this.

Release the targeting button (L), turn a bit toward the enemy you want to shoot, the depress (L) again. It should move the targeting reticule (got that word from the instruction booklet!) to the enemy. Of course, when you get the FLAME THROWER~! later, you won't have such concerns.

Um, how do you do that? I'm toying with the notion of a Cube for my wife (mainly for Eternal Darkness), and saw no signs of this promotion at EB or Gamestop at my local mall.

Anyone else experience this? I've only had three games in my life make me queasy (PS1 Gex: Enter the Gecko, DC Spider-Man, PS2 State of Emergency in Last Clone Standing mode), and I'd hate to pick this up and have to return it due to vertigo. (I've played lots of other FPS games without problems, so I think it's a camera issue.)

It's not as big of a deal with Prime as with other games, IMHO. With Prime, I got over it in a couple of days and had no further problems, once I was used to looking at the game. With Star Wars Rogue Leader, I still can't play the game AT ALL and wish I hadn't bought it. The free-roaming space scenes actually frighten me. I know that sounds weird, but I have a weird panicky feeling when I'm playing that game, which is uncool.

Damned Phazon Mines are kicking my ass... grrr.... I can get as far as the damned cloked sentry unit, but by the time I get there I am so weak that I have no energy left to take a few hits to figure out how to beat the thing...
I'll agree about the Rogue leader feeling- but I for one am the type of person that likes that sort of thing. I guess I find it realistic... but maybe I am weird...

Edit- What a dumbass I am- second time through against the cloaked sentry, I remembered the cool "autotrach" feature of the wavebuster... I did not even take a hit. Nice...

Yep. You got it man. I was just about to post "USE THE WAVEBUSTAH~!" That's probably the only real application of the weapon in the game.

I used the ~WAVEBUSTAH once so far, and that was to punk out the invisilble dude right before I got the Power Bomb. The other invisible guys I take care of my switching visors.

I have to say though that the Ice Beam and Plasma Beam are my favorites. I still get a good kick out of freezing guys then cap them with a missle, but the firing rate is a bit slow. The Plasma Beam has a geat firing rate and melts dudes.

To my suprise, I thought you couldn't get a suit much cooler than the Gravity Suit. I was wrong. The Phazon Suit looks beyond SWANK.

Man, that Omega Pirate was a PAIN! I could have likely taken him by himself the first time through, but those Pirates that jump into the fight really screw things up-
Now I am at a hard point where I do not have all of the artifacts- I am missing 3 and I have NO clue where they are. Man, this search is going to be a pain...

Pool Boy, if you don't mind it, you can CHEAT TO WIN by going to GameFAQS, they have excellent FAQS there for Metriod Prime.

Punking out Ridley was SO satisfying....that brought back memories.

When I got Metroid Prime, I was concerned about how it would play, how it would feel, etc. I am a die hard Metroid fan. I have beaten all of them. I had faith that Nintendo would not let me down...

And they didn't.

I did nothing for the week that it took me to beat this game other than go to work, come home, and play Metroid. The game was phenomenal. The Phazon Mines were an absolute bitch, but every thing else was pretty easy. Ridley was a huge disappointment, b/c I was expecting more. The only other thing I hated as much as the Phazon Mines was the climb to the top of the cavern to fight the last boss. Those Metroid that change weakness and split into more made me want to throw the controller.

So I think I see the writing on the wall for James and Cubs, so I thought I'd see if I could do some automated thing. Looks like I totally miss all the DLC if I go just by Amazon - also, Amazon lumps some really weird stuff into this category.
