The Mick Jagger episode of SNL wasn't anything particularly remarkable. I think it's the first time that the musical performances were more noteworthy than the sketches, just for the sheer novelty of watching Mick Jagger perform old Stones hits with Arcade Fire and Foo Fighters.

But the night ended with a wonderful send-off to Kristen Wiig. And it may be the most touching goodbye to a cast member since Will Ferrell left the show nearly a decade ago.

It's been a trying week with the losses of the Community and NXT showrunners, but Lazy Sunday 2 had an oddly profound emotional effect on me. Digital100's lack of Parnell acknowledgment now comes into perfect clarity.

I heard the plausible notion that Sudeikis didn't have any kind of sendoff because he'd be doing Romney through the election. My ideal Wiig+Sudeikis sendoff would've been 2 A-Holes. And it would not have been Lawrence Welk and Secret Word.

The musical bits were interesting to me because, while they were Stones songs the two sets had the unique sounds of the bands playing along with Mick.

Plus Nikolia from The Strokes was even out there for the first set.

... And I had no idea that was Steve Martin in The Californians bit until after the show. Just didn't recognize him.

I thought Phil Hartman's was really touching too.

The problem, though, is that nobody (outside of Lorne and the SNL crew, apparently) puts Wiig anywhere near the same level as Ferrell or Hartman, so the big sendoff for her seemed overblown. The last two digital shorts were clearly Samburg's swan song, though it was also weird that he was leaving and yet was Just A Guy while they're bringing the house down for Wiig.

BRIDESMAIDS did a LOT for Wiig. In Hollywood she is essentially the female Ferrell now.

Wiig is one of the most talented women ever on SNL. That's always been apparent. Me personally, I recognize how talented Wiig is yet I hate every one of her characters, especially Gilly and the woman with the forehead and hooks for hands. But she is a breakout star because of Bridesmaids and she was the featured SNL player of the past several years. I found her sendoff touching too.

I'm not saying Wiig wasn't excellent on SNL, I just don't think she's one of the all-time greats. I mean, NOBODY has gotten that kind of sendoff, aside from the literal "we all think you're the best" message from the cast on Ferrell's last show.

Jimmy Fallon got a weird Grease-inspired send-off a couple of years back.

Lorne's getting older, he probably is just getting nostalgic.

Although, who's to say that Ms. Wiig isn't beloved by everyone on the cast and crew? Perhaps her backstage temperament, even in the face of being in the biggest comedy of last year, was angelic and every appreciated it?

Well, ask yourself this question. What female on the show is going to be as productive and talented as Wiig? She's arguable to most talented of the entire cast.

Its going to be hard to replace her.

Yes and no. I do think she's a very talented actress, but like many I started to dislike some of her characters and recurring sketches. I feel the other ladies are possibly just as good but never got the chance as Wiig played so many roles.

Regardles, I thought the send-off was nice and well done. From what I read here it seemed like a huge sketch, it was only 2 minutes or so?

Lazy Sunday 2 was awesome.
I thought it was a good episode overall. Jagger was a better performer than many with more acting chops. Lots of fun.

Oh, and if they do get Steve Martin to host, he'd be tied again to Alec Baldwin iirc. That could be fun :)

Traditionally, the last sketch of the year includes the entire cast - they were just multitasking. It was a fine sketch and it made me cry. (Not really.) A few years from now Wiig will be remembered as fondly as Poehler as today - which is appropriate, given how much people complained about Amy being in every sketch when SHE was finishing up.

I won't miss you, Penelope.
I won't miss you, Gilly.
I won't miss you, Target Lady.

I won't miss you, Kat of Garth & Kat.
I will miss you, Kristen Wiig.

(I will miss Andy a little bit. I will miss Jason Sudeikis a BILLION times more. Damn, we lost Two A-holes on SNL.)

I will totally miss Judy Grimes. Was Penelope the hair-twirling "topper"? I'll miss her too. The rest, not so much.

I like Wiig (Dr. Pat FTW) but Samberg did way more for SNL just with the digital shorts than all of Wiig's characters combined.

Jason was one of those great supporting players, he never was a big "star" per se but he was always solid.

Nous ne nous pouvons pas sortir.
Sudekis was one of the best straight men the show has had. Samburg was good at those roles too. It'll be fun to see who steps into those positions.

SNL with no Digital Shorts will be sad.

Lazy Sunday 2 was tops.

I back both of these statements. Sudeikis is versatile and he was a hell of a dancer (WHAT'S UP WIT DAT?)

Samberg and Lonely Island injected SNL with a must-see element of relevance and coolness that SNL tends to only have during election season otherwise.
