Figured I'd start an SNL thread since ol' Dwayne hosting might've drawn a few extra eyes to the show tonight. And hopefully so, since this was one of the funniest episodes of the season. Rock did his usual solid-to-very good hosting job and I loved that the show (for a change) actually featured mostly just straight comedy sketches rather than pop culture-specific bits that will be dated by May. The alien co-hosting the talk show, the 'Jon Bovi opposite band' and the MacGruber bits were the highlights.
Kirk, crackers are a family food. Happy families. Maybe single people eat crackers, we don't know. Frankly, we don't want to know. It's a market we can do without.
The Rock Obama was pretty funny. And the McGyver/Mcgruber father/son skits were pretty good too. Definitely better than the Pepsuber commerical that aired at the Super Bowl. But after that, the show just DIED. The activia bit was awful and the weekend update just fell totally flat. I haven't watched SNL regularly in about 4-5 years and last night didn't give me a good reason to start doing so again.
Yeah count me in on the this show sucked side. Rock Obama was somewhat amusing skit. The alien sketch didn't get one chuckle. McGruber was a decent laugh the first few times but they have completely killed the joke dead. Now they're just performing necrophelia on the corpse. Activia=sucked. Weekend update=sucked(aside from JT). Only good sketch to me was the Hawaii one.
I didn't care for the alien skit either. They beat the one joke into the ground.
Overall, the Rock was good but the material brought him down...EXCEPT for the final skit with the lighthouse. That was perhaps the best last skit I've seen since the Barry Gibb show.

I saw various links to "The Rock Obama" and it looked like it'd be total hilarity. Man, was I disappointed. That sketch had a lot of potential and they went in the most boring direction possible. The rest of the show wasn't much better.
What happened here? This should have been an easy thumbs up.

Agreed. Great idea, poorly executed.
MaGruber was great as always. The show has been very up and down this year. The episode with Rosario Dawson was one of the worst episodes I have ever seen, and that is saying A LOT. They must have had the bad drugs that night.

The sequence where D&D go to his car to bring the CD in for Bumblebee through Mac and Charlie singing Day Bow Bow was the height of delight. But I'm inclined to agree with what Shane "Super" Spear posted in the last IASIP thread.
