I liked the Ex-Presidents were great too, but didn't understand why Clinton isn't an "Ex-President" yet. Would have been a lot better IMO.

That "Benny Hill" one was awesome. I can't wait to see what else comes from this. I hope it's like the "Dean Scream" and "Star Wars Kids" and all the A/V geeks* run with this.

*I admire the talents of said geeks. I don't have the patience for all that computer graphics work. I almost did a CG major.

ASHLEEGATE! Just when I thought nothing could top Britney Spears' "I don't know the words to my own song yet, but I'll mouth along anyway" performance of "Me Against the Music" as far as tanking any remaining honor in the SNL musical guest slot. Not only for the lip-syncing, but for walking off stage, which is a cardinal sin. And she was reportedly slated to do at least one other skit on the show. Whoever booked her should be fiiired.

I look forward to seeing what SNL does with this (if anything) in the coming weeks, since if this sort of thing happened on another show, they'd be on it with a vengeance. The easy route would be to leave the mean stuff to Eminem on the next episode. That would be so chickeny, though.

Hahaha she blamed her band, hahahaha.

Maybe growing up with her sister has given her the impression that everyone is stupid. How else can you explain how she thought giving that lame "My band started playing the wrong song" excuse was a good idea?

"And she was reportedly slated to do at least one other skit on the show."

Is that why we got the emergency deployment of CRZ nemesis Pee. Sean Shannon's bear skit?

I believe so! I personally am waiting for one Scott Christ to weigh in on this controversy.

Poor Jude Law, his fine performance is eternally overshadowed. He should do Peter O'Toole every week. Bite the fireball~

Maybe it's my memory failing me, but I remember a special on SNL musical guests on E! or VH1 or one of those channels, and both Lorne and one of the producers said that they'd never allow lip-syncing on the show. Has the advent of Britney/J-Lo/Simpson sisters becoming popular lead to them abandoning that policy, or was it never in place?

I don't remember musical guests in the past being so "manufactured" so to speak. It at least used to sound like a band was live.

I still love the "I'm so SORREEE~!" comment... and then you've got Jude Law, with his hand pointed towards her and the look of "And here's your village idiot."

His "live TV" comment correctly summed it up. Her "it's my band's fault" comment was just adding Liquid Plumber to what the rest of her career will be going down the drain shortly.

...Except that Ashlee Simpson has never been talked about so much before. I'd vote for "here's the start of her career (which will probably equal six-to-eighteen months)."

THis doesnt suprise me that much. I have seen about 3 minutes of her "show" on MTV and if she is honestly stupid enough to not know that MOP N GLO isnt used to wash dishes, then she probably does think its her "band"s fault.

Snippits from Yahoo! News which was taken from the AP

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=8&u=/ap/20041025/ap_on_en_tv/people_ashlee_simpson

Her record company, Geffen Records, said there was a computer glitch. Instead of some pretaped electronic percussion, the recording of "Pieces of Me" started mistakenly performing, the record company said in a statement.

But it sounded suspiciously like a guide vocal that's a common although almost always unspoken concert aid. Either the singer "lip synchs" by mouthing words to a backing tape or has a live microphone and sings along to the tape, making the voice sound more powerful than it is.

Such vocal tricks have been used before on the show, making "Saturday Night Live" not entirely live, said a show insider who spoke on condition of anonymity.

[EDIT]

Now Yahoo is saying that she will get another chance to sing tonight:

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20041025/ap_en_tv/people_ashlee_simpson

Simpson is scheduled to perform in Las Vegas for NBC's "Radio Music Awards," scheduled to be televised at 9 p.m. ET.

That was some great live TV. It just kept getting funnier, from the initial magic voice, to the goofy dance, to her aimlessly walking off stage, to the band members looking at each other with that "OMG!" look as they played on anyway, to them having to re-use the same photo of Jude to get to commercial that they'd used before he introduced her. And then using it again when they came back later. To her insane band-blaming at the end after Law tried to nicely bail her out. If she was going to say anything (which she shouldn't have), she should have stuck with what works and just yelled "IT WASN'T MY FAULT!" and then done the Snitskyface.

But the funniest part, as mentioned above, was the Bear City stuff in the middle. Not funny on its own, of course. Conceptually funny, just knowing that they have something like that they must keep locked away solely for emergencies. And that it was so unfunny on its own that, in context as the thing they had to throw on to desperately kill time, it became hilarious. And that they had to run TWO of them. TWO Bear Cities! How will they ever manage to get all the bears back so they can film new Bear City segments to refill the emergency coffers? I bet most of the bears have moved on to movies by now.

Next week, they need to intentionally have a few crappy skits end that with someone walking off the stage, then cutting directly to Bear City. All leading up to the final Bear City, where the bears (having, of course, been mutated by a meteor that hit the earth) are performing on stage at SNL, and one of them is caught lipsynching and walks off stage.

If SNL doesn't "accidently" play the Ashlee Simpson song right before Eminem performs his (terrible) new single next week, they don't have a clue what they're doing.

"It's not a matter of whether the war is not real, or if it is. Victory is not possible. The war is not meant to be won, it is meant to be continuous. Hierarchical society is only possible on the basis of poverty and ignorance. This new version is the past and no different past can ever have existed. In principle the war effort is always planned to keep society on the brink of starvation. The war is waged by the ruling group against its own subjects and its object is not the victory over either Eurasia or East Asia but to keep the very structure of society intact."

P.S. I can't open CRZ's link. Does anyone have another?

Thanks for the link of Ashlee CRZ. What made me laugh the most is seeing her dance as the song starts... then stop as the vocals kick in... then start dancing again as if there is nothing wrong... then stop dancing and look very lost... start again... and finally just give up and walk off stage. How strange and hilarious.

Well, I guess it turns out she was right about the "band playing the wrong song", at least in a sense. Apparently the drummer was the one who was in charge with pushing the button to play the vocals, and he hit the wrong button. Lorne Michaels has verified this.

BTW, Ashlee's dad now says acid reflux was the reason they had the vocals track, and that this was the very first time she ever used that.

Yeah, right.

I think Miss Simpson teaches us all a valuable life lesson---

When in doubt, do a hoe-down dance...

Forget your graduation speech? Do a hoe-down.

Caught in a lie you can't get out of? Do a hoe-down.

Caught cheating by your significant other? Hop out of bed and do a naked hoe-down dance.....

Hey, this could catch on...Tom Brokaw's even talking about it tonight.
