Yeah, everyone was quiet and downbeat, including Jackson, then in an obvious edit he's suddenly foaming at the mouth and shouting THE LINE. It just didn't fit, and it was an obvious insert. Shoulda put it as a throwaway during his sojourn to the cargo hold, instead of making it into the third-act turning-point.

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

So you're saying it's totally unnatural to try and maintain a veneer of calm until something happens that just makes you snap? There's only so many snakes one man can take, you know...

I saw it last night, and it was everything it was hyped up to be. Plus the theatre I went to was giving out free plastic snakes and airplanes to everybody who bought a ticket. Good promotion. When The Line hit, people followed along with it, cheered, "woohoo"-ed, and threw popcorn in the air. Terrific fun times.

Lastly, anybody who is arguing emotional subtexts in muthafuckin Snakes on a Plane is muthafuckin insane.

Ken Kennedy debuted a new finisher: Jeff Hardy fans will insist on calling it the Swanton Bomb, but it looks WAY more devastating when not performed by a 180-pound fruitcake.

No-one's arguing emotional subtexts. I'm arguing that the line was poorly placed and it kinda dulled the impact. Instead of being in keeping with what was going on at the time it felt shoehorned in for the sake of the "cult following". It wasn't organic at all.

Then again, I disliked the film and thought that, outside of the awesome twenty-minute stretch between the snakes' first attack and the kick boxer rescuing the rich bitch, it was the same boring generic action crap that you see in every other Seagal-style DTV movie. So there ya go. Watch my rating plummet.

Why do you always feel the need to post three times in a thread when you only have one thing to say? (This is a rhetorical question and not an invitation for a fourth post.)

Snakes in a Theater...
"NewsChannel 3" here in Phoenix is reporting that there were 2 rattlesnakes interested in seeing "Snakes on a Plane" at one of the bigger theater multiplexes here. (101 & Tatum -- my part of town!). One was just outside the theater, & the other was in a corridor inside, so they didn't get as far as the an individual theater's seating area. (Those 2 didn't get that far -- but what of their buddies? Bwah-ha-ha.)

Naturally speculation is divided about how they got there -- whether they just wandered in from the desert (Not at all unheard of with construction happening in the area & a couple of recent, big rainstorms.), or whether some fool thought it'd be clever to bring them in. I'm siding with the snakes, & working on the assumption that they were staging their own spontaneous demonstration at the theater.

Police are denying this. http://www.imdb.com/news/wenn/2006-08-24/#celeb3

Police Refute Rumors of Snake Cinema Scare

Phoenix, Arizona police have denied reports live rattlesnakes were released in a cinema during a screening of Snakes On A Plane, insisting the claims are a hoax. Local news reports on Tuesday said cinema-goers were terrified when two live venomous rattlesnakes were released at a showing of the Samuel L. Jackson film last Friday. Phoenix police sergeant Joel Tranter admits there is a shred of truth to the story - a 10-inch rattlesnake was found on Friday in a hallway at the movie theatre, but is thought to have slithered there on its own. A security guard swept the snake up outside and trapped it in a plastic container until a member of the Arizona Herpetological Association could haul it away. Snake handlers had also been called to the theatre earlier in the day to retrieve another rattlesnake from outside.
