That's why we had 14 seasons of the XFL, right?

| #23 Posted on 15.4.10 0933.46 | Instant Rating: 10.00 | After NBC bowed out, WWE & UPN (and TNN) briefly discussed running a second season with a smaller league. Wikipedia's article says UPN wanted SmackDown shortened in exchange; I don't remember if this is correct, but it was around the time where UPN wanted to launch half hour sitcoms off SmackDown's popularity so that sounds right.
The discussions may have not lasted more than a few hours before they decided just to fold the league.

I think we'll see somewhat of a drop with the move. Maybe they could rebroadcast on Univision?

NBC killed it twice. I imagine at that point, Vince was pissed at them canceling it so quickly and just threw his hands up. Vince actually did NBC a *favor* by putting the league on a year earlier than he initially intended. NBC asked him to rush it out, and in doing so it was nowhere *near* as organized or polished as it could have been. Then they pulled the rug out after just one season. | BigDaddyLoco

What kind of numbers is the WWE hoping for when Smackdown moves? I can't see them being great. I only get SyFy on the tv that has the cable box the as of last year sometime.
Anyone know the length of the deal?

Smackdown has actually been on MyNetworkTV for the past two years. I think once MyNetwork gave up on being a real network (it became a "programming service", which means all reruns, in February '09), it was only a matter of time before Smackdown found another new home. No point in paying the relatively big bucks for Smackdown if you're trying to save money.
I think it's fair to say that this deal would be at least two years as well. | | Pages: Prev 1 2
