Click Here (ps3.ign.com) for the details.

They're basically overhauling the entire engine and graphics, using something called "Predator". Of note is the following;

"When John Cena's suplexing an opponent, a third Superstar can punch Cena and break up the move. You can do that for any move -- even Finishers and mini-games like the Royal Rumble eliminations."

I approve of this!

Bah, you could already do this in Wrestlemania X8 for the GameCube (which I looooooved).

I fear the future, but I must embrace it. I love the SDvR franchise, and I loved the Acclaim RAW series. Legends did nothing for me, and All-Stars hasn't lured me in. I think I had maybe a week of average adjustment time when the THQ games shifted control schemes.

I might hold off on this until after the reviews.

This better feature the return (or a reasonable facsimile) of the No Mercy/DOR engine. I still find myself playing Wrestlemania XIX on occasion for the pleasure of hurling cinder blocks at Vince's head.

I hated Wrestlemania X-8, I traded it and the Gamecube in for a PS2 and the first Raw vs. Smackdown game. I have no regrets about that decision. I wonder why THQ feels that the brand split is dead? Do they watch the show or did WWE tell them something. Either way, I hope it has a ton of Legend characters or CAWs, because the current roster is boring as fuck.

Meltzer said they did a survey and found out [gasp] the fans don't actually see Raw and SmackDown as separate identities.

Even if that wasn't true, it seems normal to refresh the name and look of the game after 6 years (and around 11 of using the SmackDown name.) Gets people to reconsider the game who may have been disinterested in the series.

And it fits in with pushing WWE as a global brand name.

I like being able to interupt moves. That's been one of biggest (remaining) flaws in all of those games.
It makes it so much more real.

As cool as this sounds, I could imagine it becoming very, very annoying in Triple Threats and other multi-person matches when you can't ever hit finishers (especially long sequence ones like say the People's Elbow or the 619). Especially since they'll make it some lame requirement to advance, or whatever.

True. It'd be interesting, though, if you could interrupt a finisher with a finisher. Say, if The Rock is trying to hit the People's Elbow on Cena, and you're playing as Edge, you could interrupt him by hitting a Spear.

Constant interruptions would be annoying as hell, though.
