WOW. At first it simply looked like an enhanced, next-gen version of SVR '05, but when they showed off the interactive fighting environment, that got my attention.

Too bad none of those things would actually happen except in ECW.

Wow...being released for the Xbox 360 as well? That's certainly a change of pace for the folks at THQ, who have almost always had separate series for various consoles.

I kind of wish they'd have a better title for it...but the release date is still a ways off.

The grapple control using the right analog stick is what got my attention. Especially being able to get a guy in a vertical suplex and then decide yourself when to have him come down. Or instead being able to walk around the ring with him and taunt or even climb the ropes for a superplex. SWEET

Maybe they will finally have time to add MNM and thats the reason they weren't included in '06. It's not they forgot them..it's a matter of having time of including someone. The roster is made in advance (and at WWE's discretion) and at the time MNM weren't huge stars let alone Tag champs. The same can be said for the Divas that weren't included. This year will have upgraded current rosters and the preview does state roster updates are possible. Whether it will actually happen doubtful. But we still got the great CAW community.

Bringing it to X-Box 360 means the end of Microsoft's epic run at toppling WCW Thunder as the worst wrestling game of all time.

But I have faith at either Acclaim or Eidos to release a flaming pile of crap this year anyway.

I guess this means the XBox's successor won't see any good wrestling games EITHER.

...ok, so that's a little harsh. At least the Smackdown games aren't completely broken like WM21 and Raw 2. While I'm still holding out for a Spike (Fire Pro) DS game, I may check this out when the time comes.

Acclaim closed shop, though. I think they went under about a year and a half ago or something like that.

I'm not sure wrestling games can get any worse than King Of The Ring for the NES, or WWF Warzone for the Game Boy.

Then again, I haven't played any of the GameCube or Xbox wrestlers.

Someone posted a long interview at this url-
http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=932463&topic=27322805
I would post the whole thing here but it is too long.
Here's a Quote from the interview concerning Season Mode.

"We’ve revamped the Season Mode this year to include these three paths. You can decide to take a champion path, a challenge path (where you challenge for the belt), or kind of a general storyline path. Each of these paths are interweaving throughout the mode. Let’s say you are in the champion path and you lose the belt – you’ll then be placed into the challenger path or maybe you go right to the general storyline. What’s really cool about this system is you can actually play multiple years and see new storylines each year. Our fans are really diehard and we want them to be able to play 4-5 years in Season Mode and not have it be repetitive. We want you to experience all the storylines, all the voice-overs, etc.We also have a lot of choices this year on how you want this storyline to play out. Let’s say you want to side with a certain person, you want to be a heel or face, you want certain match types – each time you play through there is the ability to switch up your choices, what path you’re taking. It’s really going to be a different experience each time. It is definitely a challenge for us, but it will be an extremely deep mode for the gamer."

On the subject of the revamped season mode-- HO. LEE. SHIT.

Now all they have to do is revamp the General Manager mode as well, gimme some stat tracking so I can actually tell how my guys have been doing long-term, and honest to God I'm pluckin' down the $50 the moment this bad boy comes out, like I did with '06. Hell, I'll get a PS3 or XBox 360 (leaning towards PS3) so that I can get the ultra-swanky graphics, too.

Jeez loueez, if I had *that* playing on my television and someone walked in, they might not realize that I was actually playing a video game and not just watching a wrestling event!

MNM won the tag titles very shortly (I think literally a week) after they debuted the characters on Smackdown in April of last year. So depending on when they set the roster for the game, it's not that they weren't tag champs or big stars yet, but rather that they were still in OVW.

This might be asking a bit too much from this game but if there's one thing I'd absolutely love to see that would totally bring the realism, it'd be a hostile crowd response to John Cena. I'd love to hear the crowd BOO everything Cena does and CHEER everything his opponent does. I'd also love to hear pockets of high pitched Cena chants and then the deep grumble of angry anti-Cena chants competing with it. That would be, as the white boy rapper himself might say, off the hook, crazy, yo.

Word up, I'm down with that, G. ;-)

I think the WWF Raw game for the Xbox had something like that: being a total cheapshot artist and cheater would get the crowd against you and thusly make your opponant impossible to pin: two counts galore.

Here's an idea: specific quirks for specific crowds. For example: if the specific day is based in Montreal...TWOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! for every two count. For every card "held" in Canada, all the Canadians are cheered, even if they're heel. Also, if the card is held in someone's backyard, make reference to it. Flair Country, anyone?

Even something like team colours in the crowds would stand out. Toronto: blue and white. Pittsburgh: black and yellow. Stuff like that.

Ooooh. And the Montreal crowd should want to lynch Shawn Michaels every time they see him. On the other hand, if Bret Hart made an appearance in Montreal, or anyplace else in Canada, everyone in attendance should die of a spontaneous heart attack.

I know this game didn't come out yet, so pardon me for bringing this point up, but doesn't it seem like every time they come out with a new system that is something like 100x more powerful than the previous system, the game still doesn't improve by much at all? Seriously, exactly how much more powerful is the PS3 than the PS2? Shouldn't they be able to put pretty much every wrestler, legend, match type, caw feature in this game? All of the things you guys have listed....there's no hardware limitation for it not to be included, right? It annoys me that these guys put up release dates, rush the game to that date, and leave a bunch of shit out saying "well maybe next year we'll add that". Sure, this is their sales strategy, but wouldn't they make just as much if they actually improved the game every year instead of taking some really things out, and replacing them with other things from the wishlist? It seems like every year we're saying "ah this is a cool new feature....but wait, why did they get rid of com vs. com title matches?" or something similar.

The power of the machine is actually part of the problem. There will always be a hardware limitation on console games -- the amount of storage size on a disc. As the systems get more powerful, they can render more polygons quicker, but that means there's more information to store per character. Disc sizes will go up, and depending on the compression rate, they might be able to fit more people into a game, but there will always be an upperbound limit on how much they can throw in.

Plus, there's another limit. Given that a new game has to come out each year, there's only so much time that can actually be spent building the game. I'm sure that the programmers would LOVE to put as many features as you list in there, but they may not have the manpower or time.

Don't forget also that the PS3 and XBox 360 are still new. I'm sure its going to take them an iteration or two just to get used to learning how to program for it before they'll be comfortable enough spending all their time building the game and whatnot. And they'll have better compression algorithms for fitting more on the disc, etc. For example, the save file for Smackdown: Just Bring It took up about half a memory card. That was the Smackdown game for the PS2. The next game, Shut Your Mouth, had a save file that was like 1/4th the size, if not smaller, and that included having an enhanced create a wrestler mode which required more data to be stored and a more complex season mode.

I'm sure that in a year or two, they'll have a really awesome game out. It probably won't be perfect, but it should be close.
