I really enjoyed Smackdown for the first time in a while tonight. With Rock back it really seemed more like a big time show. I also thought there are some good tag teams developing, especially liked the double team move of Mark Henry throwing D'Von into the cross body. Undertaker and Hogan did awesome on their hot tags and Cena and Orton did good in their Ricky Morton roles. I'm really looking forward to Rock/Angle next week and Rey~! in 2. More thoughts later when I can think better.

This is one of the better Smackdowns in weeks.

I only caught the end of the Hogan/Edge vs. Billy/Chuck match. Damn.

Years ago, Fit Finlay would slap some sense on Steven Regal for talking smack like UT did to him. As much as I like UT, he just looks angry talking to Cena, Angle and Jericho.

(Wo)Man, Molly can wrestle a ham hero sandwich to a three star match. She made Torrie look wrestling sharp.

The Rock is back to his usual entertaining self. WWE makes some substantial money having the Rock advertising Halloween Peroxide(H2O2) with Busta Rhymes. Stupid Mark Lloyd, when someone is telling the world you are masturbating, keep your hands off your groin or you get caught.

Good match between the teams of Deacon Bautista/D-Von and Orton/Mark Henry. One thing pisses me off though: Mark Henry should not be jobbing after only two moves are done to him. He is looking like the World's Strongest Punk.

One thing I don't get: Why is it that sometimes during a match when a heel group tries to do a run-in it's not only ineffective, they get majorly punked, like the Canadians on this show vs. Rikishi; but after the match, they do the beatdown like they are the Four Horsemen? Not the best way to book Southern beatdown.

The main event: John Cena is no rookie; he looked as polished as the other three. Guess Jericho will fight Cena on Vengeance.

Yeah I know he hasn't been on in weeks (months), but that was a little too much Rock for me. Especially when most of the schtick was rehash. But I suppose it follows the whole McMahon philosophy as of late...retread the product.

I got a kick out of the Noble/Nidia stuff and enjoyed that match. Cena continued to impress. How often can you say you saw a good Mark Henry Match?

It was a good show overall, just too much Rock for me.

Smackdown kept me really entertained. It hasn't done this for weeks, if not months. Everyone seemed to have a lot of energy and that they were pumped to be there. Perhaps The Rock's return charged everyone up.

GOOD THINGS

- Hulk Hogan and Edge's Tag Title defense was incredible. Who ever thought two years ago that Hogan would be in this position? Hogan is still far from being the best technical wrestler on the show, but he gets the crowd involved. God bless him, he got that crowd screaming and on its feet. That is what the WWE needs right now: crowd involvement. Billy and Chuck looked crisp and really energetic. Billy Gunn also might not be the best wrestler, but he plays his part well. Props to Edge for being in for almost the whole match and covering for Hogan's lack of actual wrestling skills.

- Molly on Smackdown!!! I loved her promo on the beach with Torrie Wilson. It could have been turned up a few levels, but it was still very good. Molly being constantly distracted by the waves getting her shoes wet was a good little touch. It's little quirks like that that seperate her and some of the other ladies wrestlers from the awful Jackie Gayda. Kudos to Torrie for riling Molly up by just being herself and not mentioning Molly's ass once. As for the actual match...Wow. It was good for what it was. I would have prefered that it go on for a bit longer though. My respect for Torrie went up a bit. She actually had some good offense (that boot to the back on Molly's handspring elbow was spot-on). Yeah, I know that a lot was due to Molly's incredible selling job, but give the girl some credit. Actually, its funny how in a real fight, you give credit to the person who attacks, but in wrestling, you really have to give the credit to the person who sells the move. As for Molly, I have one word - powerbomb. I marked out when I saw this as I had never seen a woman perform this move (never saw Sable or her "Sable-Bomb"). That Indian Deathlock thingie was also all different kinds of cool. One last note, that recap was the first time I saw Molly's part on the Divas Undressed show. Her angel outfit was so cute. Awwwww.

- I had forgotten how much I missed The Rock. He was everywhere tonight and I was very entertained. The Busta Rhymes promo thing went a bit long, but everything else was spot-on. His vignette with Edge and Hogan had me cracking up, as did his Mark Lloyd interview. The Rock put Triple H to shame in that department. ("If you're Mark Lloyd, who is that? *shove* give me that jabroni.") Classic Rock and exactly what Smackdown needed.

- Angle and Jericho's cocky bastard attitudes were great, especially when focused on the Undertaker. These two should hang out together consistantly more. I also have to say that Jericho's flashy wardrobe will always keep me entertained.

- Noble and Nidia were great. I had my doubts when they came in, but call me converted.

- The Angle-Rock-Taker angle is coming along nicely. I'm actually excited about the match at Vengeance. Having Angle on one end, the Rock on the other, and Taker as a 'tweener means you can have them all kick each other's asses without confusing the average fan. I've always liked Triple Threat matches. It brings in another perspective and is more evolved than the generic good-bad one-on-one showdown.

NOT-SO-GOOD THINGS

- Team Canada needs to be more than a team of jobbers. Rikishi is currently "boring" in my book and should be on the lower midcard, so why is he going over Test? Have some members of Team Canada2002 actually go over clean without interferance once or twice. Please. It's not too much to ask is it? I mean, it's only Rikishi.

- Undertaker's attitude. Ok, first he liked Cena two weeks ago, now he can't stand be around him? Ok, I see that Taker is a badass that is also a loner, but why the turnaround, and why is Cena still wearing those horrible tights? I thought those were a one-time Boston thing last week.

- D-Von/Batista vrs. Henry/Orton was a little "ehh" for me. Henry is a giant entertainment sinkhole, D-Von is just there, Batista is unproven, and Orton is too vanilla. Orton's Cross-Body was the high point for me, but THAT'S his FINISHER? Hmmmm...

VERY VERY BAD THING

- John Cena. Pins Jericho. In the main event. His third match in. What is this? Sure, Cena is good, but this is his THIRD match. He is a rookie. I'm all about pushing new guys, but I think he should earn his dues somewhat. Honestly, I think Vince wants Cena to be the Next Big Thing. Yeah, he doesn't destroy his opponents like Brock and he isn't undefeated like Brock, but at least Brock hasen't pinned any top card guys yet. (Yes I still consider Jericho top card.) *shakes his head* I don't know, Vince.

I have $10 the Observer reports TOMORROW that Jericho jobbing to Cena was punishment for his pissy behavior online.

It's so completely rediculous, it's GOTTA happen.

Hey deadbeater did you notice? Molly sure wasn't wearing "granny panties" THIS week. ;-) She was kinda sporting the "Lita look" a few times during the match.

This Smackdown like the many ones before it was dull as hell. I've seen the show do better before, MUCH better. Out of all the rookies this Cena guy ain't got it. Most of the time Vince has hired wrestlers with a good look and wrestling style. I'll give Cena one for solid wrestling but he brings nothing new to the table. Maybe Cena saved Vince's life once and is now getting rewarded.

"Cause Busta you know, Freddy Krueger, Jason, Micheal Myers......they always coming after the brothers first"
Best line EVER from The Rock! I'm saying that all day tommorrow.

Vince trying to be intimate with Stacy is sickening. Him talking that way to her always makes me feel weird. CUT IT OUT YOU DIRTY OLD MAN!!!!!!

I think the biggest highlight from the show is that Jumpin' Jesus will be on Smackdown in 2 weeks!

Since when did Torrie Wilson learn how to wrestle? She looked about 75% better than the last time I saw her in the ring...the Trish effect must be getting to her. Give HER some credit (and stop comparing Molly to Jackie Gayda please, a little unfair I would say). While Torrie becoming the next Trish might be a good thing, it would be bad to see such a great piece of eye candy go to waste. Oh well...

This was one of the best WWE shows I've seen in awhile, and I only watched the first hour. Hogan and Edge together are great, Rock was awesome, and that Orton/Henry tag match was one of the best I've seen in awhile. (Did Orton really hurt himself or what?) All around good show. Kudos.

Nora Greenwald/Molly, after she grauated from the WCW Power Plant, not only became Miss Madness, but she trained the other women working in WCW or their feeder leagues. That included her rival Torrie.

Oh by the way, the powerbomb was a staple in Japanese women's puroresu before it was re-adopted in the WWF/E by Sable.

Anotherr nice part of the show was that there were no flat periods, other than perhaps the pseudo romance between Vince and Stacey.

Angle calling Busta Rhymes "Puff Daddy"--now that's a real good insult, not only because Puff Daddy does not exist anymore--Sean Coombs is P. Diddy now--but his skills are not even close to Busta.

Cruel Angel--The only thing wrong with Cena is that he doesn't stop to yell smack to the fans.

What impressed me the most was the Noble buffet promo.

When he talked about how he was poor, but as a champion, he'd never have to be poor again, I almost busted out crying. Not only was it a good promo, but it gave real significance to holding a title.

The whole thing was just begging for a Noble/Nidia/Tajiri face turn. And then it struck me... why have heels at all in the division? The Cruiserweights could just have their goal be the title itself. No secret stalkers or abusing girlfriends, just a bunch of guys who bust their asses to get the strap. Sure, they all have their own goofy gimmicks, but they don't have to be enemies.

In this way, the title becomes significant, the wrestlers become respectable, and there are no stupid angles to get in the way of decent wrestling.

I like it!

--------------------------

The Busta/Rock stuff was a blatant shill, but both guys really seemed to be having a blast, and it was great to see that.

--------------------------

And that exchange between Randy Orton and Mark Henry before their match... just a WEE bit homoerotic?

Did you happen to notice the way Billy Gunn straddled that middle rope upon entering the ring?

That's what I said.

As far as the promo comparison, you're right. I guess the sheer awfulness of Jackie's last promo against Trish stuck in my mind and this was the first ladies' promo I have seen since then.

SD was O.K. but to much Rock. 5 minutes in the ring and then an interview is excessive. The run in was O.K.

- John Cena has impressed me greatly the past couple of weeks. I say he's the next Sting (and not because of the sweet Stinger Splash he does).
- Kurt Angle = The man.
- Rock's return was decent.

I sadly have not seen any Japanese women's puroresu. :-(

As far as Cena goes, yeah the guy is quite impressive and does a lot of moves so its not punch, kick, punch, punch, but I am worried about pushing him too far too fast.

Cena had to pull off the fluke pin on Jericho both to give him SOME credibility as a threat ("The rookie just got the job done in the main event! Instead of being the guy who got pinned in his first three matches!") and to give some heat to the inevitable Jericho/Cena match at Vengeance. This is good because 1) it builds Cena up by letting him have a match with an established main eventer, and 2) it means Jericho might actually get booked to win on a PPV. He hasn't done that since his Undisputed Championship defense against Austin.

A look at his record:

Mania - Lost the title to Triple H.
Backlash - Not even booked into a match. Even cut a promo about how the former champ wasn't even booked into a match.
Judgement Day - Another loss to Triple H.
Survivor Series - Lost clean to RVD in the first round.

Jericho NEEDS a win over someone. For the love of all that's holy, give him a clean win over a rookie!

WOW. Mr. Positivity here to say I thought Smackdown sucked. I was bored as hell once Rock hit the ring and almost the rest of the show afterwards. However, in staying with my own personal way of doing things, I shall point out the positives first.

-Taker was on tonight. Really on. Everything he did I liked, he's so much better when he's backstage, interacting with someone, than when he's in the ring droning on and on. Good work from the Deadman tonight.

-Opening tag match was good. Best way to use Hogan, have him stand outside the ring for 90% of the match and then when he comes in, let him just stand there as the opponents charge him. Edge and Hogan and already reviving that division.

-Batista looked good, damn good. I haven't been on the bandwagon yet, wouldn't put him over for his 2 and 3 move performances on the last 2 shows, but he looked good tonight. D-Von's a tag team wrestler, period. Good to see him back in one.

-Noble and Nidia's promo. I've come around on those 2. Didn't like them at first, now I do. Classic stuff, Tajiri was good, as usual. I don't miss him when he's not on, but when he is, he tends to deliver the goods.

-Torrie-Molly, segment and match. The segment had that (sigh) This shouldn't be funny feel to it, but I laughed. Torrie acts like a 12 year old, makes me laugh. Molly's always good, even if put over a little to much by some. Match was quality. Molly clearly carried her, but Torrie is obviously getting better.

-Rock-Hogan-Edge segment was good, laughed at that. A little pointless, but it's a TV show and it made me laugh, so be it.

Beyond that, not a big fan of tonight:

-Rock's in-ring segment was BRUTAL. I read the paper until he started talking about Vengeance. I don't care about Busta Rhymes, I don't care about "movie star" Rock, then Angle came out and proceed to cut a bad, boring promo (Puff Daddy line-aside. THAT was classic) back at him, all leading up to a lame "Dr. Evil" joke. Wow, thanks for coming out Rock. I used to like 20-minute promo segments, but they've gone away from them lately, and I don't want them back now. Taker running out and beating them both up was the highlight of that segment. Too bad Busta wasn't there to take a chokeslam.

-Rock's Marc Lloyd promo. Hey, Rock, I've seen it too many times at this point. It's not funny anymore.

-Cruiserweight Tag Match. (Yawn) Mysterio comes in 2 weeks from now? Good, then I'll care about this division again. Noble-Kidman could be good, but I'm not holding my breath. These guys are wrestling just like everyone else, they're just smaller. Maybe the WWE is making them do it, fine, but I don't care who's to blame, they still don't entertain me.

-John Cena. First couple of times, fine, I can buy it. But, we've officialy entered too much, too fast time for this kid. I'm not usually a "pay your dues" kinda guy, but he's not ready for this. He's bland, he's boring, and he has no business being in a feud with Chris Jericho. Lesnar had to wait to get his shot and this plain kid doesn't? Jericho BETTER beat him cleanly.

-Cancelling a PPV match for another. The very first blatant on-show sign that this federation books on the fly. Sure, we could tell before, but god damn, they just cancelled a match for another one. Edge-Jericho had a good backstory to it, but then they said "Shit! We don't have anything for Hogan and the Canadians to do." Match should be good, but come on guys get on the ball, do Storm-Hogan if you have to, granted both would be in must-win situations, but it'd be better than rebooking a PPV so obviously.

-One angle has made me hate 2 guys I like and 1 guy I could stand. Storm, Christian, and Test. Boring. To the max. Seen it all before...and better.

-All the recaps. Seemed like more than usual. Thought I was watching Afterburn or Bottom Line there for a while.

All in all, I give this show a big thumbs down, and that's rare for me. NWATNA gets my vote for best show of the week.
