Vince announces Rock vs Hogan at No Way Out.. Damn..in that case I guess the stuff about Rock being there for Hogan and then Goldberg might be true after all.
Rock then did a promo (again via sattelite) against Hogan.. And according to the spoilers on the observer at first Rocky got booed but then got some cheers for his catchphrases..
It makes me wonder about Wrestlemania though. They better have Rock be 100% heel by then if they want to throw him against a face Goldberg (who will have to be introduced and put over in the period between NWO and WM). But can they get Goldberg over enough? Is the man really likeable and marketable in the WWE kinda way? I guess Hogan will have to do that for him..
I'm babbling..but that's cos I am wondering..all these thoughts..spin! argh!
Steve Jackson! Games! Sluggy.com! Games! And err..Games!
With Goldberg, while fans will remember him and may cheer him going in to WM, I think it's very possible that we may see a reversal of Hogan/Rock if Rock plays his heel role perfectly, where Rock gets cheered and Goldberg gets booed.
I think both Hogan and The Rock have a lot of work cut out for them. Once Goldberg arrives, they're going to have both him and Brock Lesnar in the same league. Both guys do basically the same thing and were given the same kind of push, with few differences, such as Brock showing vulnerability and Goldberg having some charisma (he yelled a lot and made funny faces, if that counts). If only Brock stayed heel, they wouldn't have as much of a problem.
With those two filling up main event slots, it's going to be extremely difficult to elevate new stars who may have a legitimate shot at drawing money for WWE by, you know, playing characters people can identify with. The next Steve Austin and Rock could be on the undercard, just waiting to be elevated, but we won't know about it. And I don't think that's Austin or Rock's fault for "not putting them over." I think it's Vince's fault for losing his eye for actual charismatic talent and focusing on more physically impressive athletes instead, like Lesnar and Batista.
I am really surprised that Vince has bought into the Goldberg thing. Not only is Goldberg not a creation of Vince McMahon (not that it hasn't stopped him recently), but Goldberg really didn't have any lasting appeal beyond 1998. He was a clear case of "flavor of the month"/"flash in the pan," yet Vince has tirelessly negotiated to sign him. If The Rock is leaving after WM and Hogan is sticking around to lose his drawing ability again, what is the real upside to having Goldberg hanging around?
Assuming Vince doesn't magically turn Goldberg into someone that is actually entertaining, Goldberg's entrance to WWE is going to prove only one thing: Goldberg was never in the league of guys like Austin, The Rock, Mankind, or even HHH.
SKLOK, and can I call you SKLOK?, I agree with a lot of things you said, but I think the overall appeal of bringing a guy like Goldberg in is that there are a number of big-money feuds to be had with him in the short term, since he is not a long-term kind of guy, much like Steiner (although short-term for Steiner applies more to his MATCHES than anything else).
I think Goldberg coming in (which is still yet to be seen) gives the WWE the money they need right now to feel better about themselves and about business being down, but then it's right back down to the depths again.
