Cut & Pasted from the Observer:

Matches announced for the show are Mark Henry vs Rey Misterio in a #1 contender match, and Kurt Angle vs Daivari (I'm guessing something will happen on RAW to set this up).

Lashley defeated JBL. During the match, the Boogeyman came out, distracted JBL and Lashley got the pin. Boogeyman ate worms in the ring after the match.

Kurt Angle is walking around backstage, being congratulated by the Smackdown! superstars. Rey Misterio gets in Kurt's face, then seconds later Mark Henry also gets in Kurt's face.

JBL is backstage, yelling at Teddy Long to do something about the Boogeyman. Long makes a match for the Rumble: JBL vs Boogeyman. JBL looks scared.

Booker T and Sharmell come out to celebrate U.S. Title win. Balloons fall from the ceiling. Out comes Orlando Jordan, demanding a match tonight with Booker. Booker says he's not cleared to wrestle yet. Jordan shoves Booker down. Teddy Long comes out and makes a match for later tonight: Randy
Orton (as Booker's substitute) vs. Orlando Jordan.

Matt Hardy defeated Fit Finlay by DQ. At the end of the match, Finlay has Hardy in the ropes, and starts delivering hard crossfaces. Ref counts to five, Finlay is still delivering the crossfaces. So the ref DQs Finlay and
awards Hardy the match. Finlay gets on the mic and says "I'll give you something to DQ me for." He puts Hardy's head on the steel steps and stomps on his head.

Footage of Batista's surgery is shown, with a message from Batista saying he will be back.

Rey Misterio vs Mark Henry. Henry kicked out of a 619 and frogsplash. Henry wins with a powerslam, setting up Henry vs Angle at the Rumble for the world title. Misterio sold the injured ribs for a good five minutes, and the refs carried him back to the back.

The Gymini defeated Brian Kendrick and Paul London. Mr. Kennedy at ringside for this match providing commentary.

Randy Orton defeated Orlando Jordan. At the end, Jordan is on the top rope, poised to attack Orton. Sharmell and Booker T come down. Booker nails Jordan with the crutch, Orton follows up with the RKO for the pin. Afterwards, Chris Benoit comes down and chops the hell out of both Booker
and Orton. That sets up Benoit vs Orton at next week's Smackdown! tapings.

Kurt Angle defeated Daivari by DQ. Mark Henry and Melina at ringside to scout the match. Angle puts Daivari in the ankle lock, but Melina interferes, causing the DQ. Angle puts the anklelock on Melina, causing Henry to come in and attack Angle. Henry nails Angle with the steel steps and leaves him for dead. Daivari grabs the mic and announces he is the new
manager of Mark Henry, and that he "screwed" Angle. Show ends with Daivari and Henry celebrating while Angle is hurt outside.

So...Royal Rumble Card:
WWE Title: Edge [c] vs. John Cena
World Title: Kurt Angle [c] vs. Mark Henry
Annual Royal Rumble Match (Lashley, Kane, HHH, Shelton Benjamin, Rob Van Dam & Chavo Guerrero announced)
The Boogeyman vs. John "Bradshaw" Layfield

That Henry comes in and defeats Mysterio and gets a world title shot at the Royal Rumble is almost enough to make me want to vomit. I'm sorry, but that is just complete and utter bullshit. Its EXACTLY the same as Hardcore Holly just walking right back in and getting a world title shot at Royal Rumble 2004 two years ago. I was called a naysayer then, but then the match happens, 6 minutes long and Holly gets squashed in a laughable match. What a joke.

I don't mind, yeah Holly wasn't exactly Championship material but overall that Royal Rumble was a great show and hopefully this one will be the same. The Royal Rumble takes up so much time and the Raw Title is more important so really the WWE title match is going to be lower midcard on this show, I don't think Henry is out of place there. And look on the bright side, if Henry is getting the Holly push like a couple of years ago then he'll be forgotten about as soon as the Rumble is over. And i'd much rather see Rey in the Royal Rumble than Henry.

I think that's kind of the point. Why throw away a marketable, headlining title match at the Rumble that you can save for a later PPV? The Rumble itself is enough to sell the show to most people, and you can have Rey vs. Kurt (a feud with quite a LONG history, not to mention all the Eddie vs. Kurt history tacked onto it) sell a later SD-only PPV.

Plus, they just spent 3 or 4 shows building up Mark Henry as this king-shit monster heel. Why not legitimize Angle's title reign (and the World Title) by having him take out the guy that took out the last champion?

Because quite frankly, Angle has already SQUASHED Mark Henry in the past and is beneath him. Seeing as to how Rey wouldn't even win the rumble, if they could give us something even close to an Angle/Benoit quality match, that's what they should be doing.

How do you know they're not planning Rey Vs. Angle for No Way Out, or even WrestleMania? Angle beats Mizark handily at the Rumble whilst the 30-man match does all the PPV-sellin', then Rey Vs. Angle gets a)more time, b)a true main event slot, and c)used as the drawing card it should be. Good wrestling booking and good business.

Ahh ... nice to see Matt Hardy taking his lumps, again.

So I'm guessing Angle will be a full-fledged face now.

Why feed Rey to Mark Henry? Mark's already taken out Batista, and looked strong in the battle royal last week (where he eliminated Rey). That should be enough to qualify him for a title shot without having to sacrifice someone valuable to him like Rey.

And that's most surprising. He's railed against the troops, made a crack about black people, gave a shout out to France, and did his damndest to make people cheer Cena. Now all that seems to be gone, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. Angle makes a fantastic heel. I hope he at least keeps the black mouth guard.

When did Angle squash Mark Henry? Three and a half years ago on a Smackdown that absolutely no one remembers?

Mark Henry was not a main eventer the last time he was in the WWE, but since they've brought him back they've done a great job making him a legitimate threat rather than a joke title contender. They've built him up really well, made him seem important, and Mark Henry has done very well in his role. What is so bad about him being in the third most important match at the Royal Rumble besides the fact that he wasn't very good in early 2004? And who should WWE put in his slot (hint: there is no one else)?

Why was this show taped this early? Are they overseas? This looks like a really good show though. I'm looking forward to the Fit Finlay stuff. Does anyone else notice that Smackdown actually has a tag team division with more than three teams? I'm all for that.

He's got that hand-waving deal. He can become INVISIBLE! This means MONEY, Dawg! - AWARulz on Cena.

I think this could definitely work, though. If you're ever going to make Angle a face, the time is now. Angle has been turned in the past because people were loving his act as a chickenshit, holier-than-thou heel, a gimmick that doesn't really translate into babyface success. But now he's been turned because he's a mega-intense, angry bastard who's teetering on the brink of insanity, which works much better. He'll have to stop insulting The Troops(tm), but that's not what people were liking about him in the first place -- they were liking his attitude, and he can keep that attitude.

He doesnt have to win it , but as long as he is shown as a strong performer then they can build him for a title shot.If they want to make Rey look strong, do what they did last year.. give him a long time in the ring ( 2005 Rey lasted 38:25)

My fear is Chavo will be given the ''long run'' as some sort of Eddie tribute.

This is the funniest thing you'll read on the internet today, folks!

Mark Henry has never been a threat to anything besides a fresh pan of chicken wings at Ponderosa.

He is utterly devoid of redeeming value, and they only reason they haven't fired him is because some stupid ass signed him to a guaranteed contract years and years ago.

I'm stoked for Finlay but bummed for Matt. Why couldn't they have done this with a Smackdown jobber? (Please no comments that Matt is a jobber now.)

Didn't they do a similar angle with Heyman and Henry a few years ago. I seem to remember a similar angle with Henry and Heyman. Actually hasn't every manager done this at some point? I'm glad to see the manager role becoming important again. I liked Daivari and Angle together and would have preferred Daivari staying with Angle so his (Daivari's) character could grow a bit more.
I hope Henry doesn't injure Angle.

Mark Henry's contract has been reworked dramatically since the infamous 1996 ten-year deal. People should really stop invoking it every time they start slinging hyperbole about how much he sucks around. And Henry's hardly being gifted a plum position here. He's a big strong monster, they were obviously lining him up to be fed to Batista in a nothing program, and now that program's been transfered to Angle. Angle will take back the value they're poured into him come the Rumble, and he'll likely be a non-entity come WrestleMania.

My girlfriend was watching the Battle Royal with me (she's not a wrestling fan) and when it got down to Rey and Henry, she looked at me and said "There's no way that the little guy can win. Look at the size of the other guy!". She also said "He can just sit on him. He'll never (kick out)"

Now, ignoring the fact that it was a Battle Royal, I did understand her point. Hate to break this to you dude, but a lot of 'marks' or casual fans aren't going to swallow Rey beating Henry, nor care about his contract or his 'skill'. We criticize McMahon a lot, but there's a reason he pushes muscular and powerful. Besides, it'll be a passable match and a 'fresh' one.

Watching "The Ringer" is not unlike watching porn; after about five minutes one is both supremely bored and wondering whether to be ashamed or not.

You'd think, except on WOL, Meltzer said Mark Henry vs. Undertaker was a likely Mania match. Whatever.

I think they would. Rey is a special case in that in the land of giants where small guys go to die, he's been the exception who's beaten regular-sized men. My hope is that he lost the #1cont match here to lead to him wrestling for the title at Wrestlemania, which is what Batista did last year. But if Angle is going to be a full-fledged babyface, then they might just keep their Randy Orton plans.

Well we remember it at least

He's not a true main eventer this time either. He's never been a legitimate threat, and he won't be now either. Just like Hardcore Holly when he came back in 2003. And I also bet just like Hardcore Holly after a joke of a world title match, Henry will either be gone again or back into mid-card obscurity before he is.

There are plenty of other people they could've put in that slot, namely Rey Mysterio or Chris Benoit. I would've even taken the Undertaker at this point over Henry. And what about Matt Hardy? Oh that's right they squandered all the momentum, heat, and popularity he had upon his return and turned him into a jobber again. If they can make Mark Henry and Hardcore Holly "legitimate threats" and "main eventers" like this, there's no reason they can't do the same for Hardy. The reason there is no one else? Lack of creativity on WWE's part, so they have to dust off scrubs and slugs like Mizark Henry.
