From PWInsider.com

Dark Match

Shane Twins Beat Buck Quartermain and Antonio Banks.

Velocity

Vito beat Steven Richards with a version of Edge's finisher.

Returning Brian Kendrick beat Paul London in a great match with sliced bread #2.

Doug Basham Beat Mike Madden??? Didn't catch the last name.

Super Crazy beat Nunzio in a non title match. Another Superb Match, good week to see Velocity.

Smackdown

Recap of last week with the network shutting down the women's match.

First match: Heidenreich beat Joey Mercury with all kinds of outside interference. Beatdown on LOD after win.

Backstage "The Mole" talking to the network rep and thanking him for signing the Tag Team Title Rematch for Friday Smackdown (guess UPN is booking the show now?).

From here, it gets a little sketchy in some of these so they are maybe not in order.

Bob Orton intros Randy Orton and cut a promo about how they ended the Undertaker's legacy. They hype next week whether UT will show up or not. Announced for tonight that Randy Orton will face Rey Mysterio Jr.

Network rep apologizes to Stacy and Christy about having to cancel their match last week but wants a straight up match between them tonight. Divas accept.

Chris Benoit backstage says he wants to show yet again what he can do faster than the match with Orlando Jordan so he has Josh Matthews time him while he uses the bathroom and washes his hands. Pretty funny stuff

Rematch: Chris Benoit beats Orlando Jordan by tap out in 23.4 seconds. Clock was counting down in the corner of screen. Can they bury Jordan any more? ANOTHER rematch announced for next week with Jordan and Benoit.

Teddy Long congratulates the network rep on making the first episode of Friday Night Smackdown the best ever so far. The Network says that the Batista-JBL match will be a bullrope match and Teddy Long counters with the Mysterio-Guerrero match being a cage match now.

Simon Dean out to claim that Batista uses his Simon System and that is why he is champion now. Out comes Bautista and states he can't remember for the life of him ever using the product but wants to give it a try. He takes a chug and says it's making him feel stronger and bigger by the second. He then tells Dean that it makes him feel more aggressive. Total squash from there, Batista wins via Batista Bomb.

Mr. Ken Kennedy beat Booker T with Sharmell. Kennedy won with his top rope finisher. Christian did commentary and got into an argument with Sharmell. Booker T was on his way up to the top rope and was distracted by what was going on and got caught in the finisher. Sharmell let him have it and he argued back this time.

Scotty 2 Hotty and Funaki lose to William Regal and Paul Birchall.

Eddie Guerrero cuts a promo in the back behind a cage basically stating he has lost his family and he has nothing to lose. He says he will brutilize Rey in their match. Went WAY too long.

Randy Orton beats Rey Mysterio Jr. in a phenomenal match that went easily 15 to 20 minutes.

Dark Match Main Event

Batista Beats Randy Orton via Batista Bomb.

A lot of people were VERY angry that the Undertaker and JBL were advertised along with Eddie Guerrero and did not appear, even though JBL has an autograph session right here in Jacksonville tomorrow. Unbelievable that they get away with this garbage with no explanation. Arena was 3/4 full. Overall a hot crowd with some dead spots in the interview segments that went on and on.

----------------

This Chris Beniot 'What can I do faster?' thing is gold.

Main Event seems like a must see.

Good to see they are making good use of both Christian and Booker.....

Late Registration is the album of the year (nothing to do with wrestling, just thought I would say that.)

By the way, Storm's gimmick includes 1.) telling the audience to shut up, and 2.) occasionally making everyone stand for the Canadian national anthem. You know they don't know what to do with a wrestler when he's making fans stand for a national anthem. It's like waving a white flag and saying, "This guy has no personality -- we give up."

This actually sounds like a good show. The Benoit stuff is awesome. And if done right, it could even help Jordan if he's ever able to squeak out a win.

Are they trying to kiss up to UPN with the whole "representative" thing? Why are they having Teddy long essentially come out and say, "Hey, you're better at my job than I am! Great work!"?

And the Decemberists already captured the best album of the year award with Picaresque. ;)

Reminds me a bit of the interminable Benoit-Albert feud. I'm glad we got a true-blue main-eventer who's willing to put over a younger guy, but the guy he's putting over isn't someone I've ever been impressed with.

I have high hopes for the Orton-Rey match.

Any indignation over Booker losing to a rookie is negated by the fact that it advances his current story with Christian.

Plus, it's Ken Kennedy, who the smark community seems to like.

How can they not? He looks like Billy Gunn, and he does Road Dogg's mic schtick. He's certified platinum, baby!

Wrestling is a work. Wins and losses don't mean anything. I'm sure Booker couldn't care less.

On the first point: duh. As for him nor anyone else caring about who wins or loses, that's just absurd. If someone doesn't win, they become like Val Venis. Bathroom breaks abound when he comes out because he'll never be interesting to watch anymore. One win may not mean much, but if it becomes more, it's not good for their career at all. Every week almost every post has someone bitching that one wrestler lost to another (check out any of ekedolphin's Raw reviews and search for "Shelton" ).

Wrestlers themselves quit all the time because they're not winning as much as they want and so their career isn't going any higher. Look at half of the WWE's roster now. Benoit, Eddie, Jericho, they all reached as far as WCW would let them and then left to try their luck somewhere else for less money and more risk. Guys like Goldberg, Michaels, and Hogan are constatly in the news (when they're active) about how ALL they care about is who they beat and who won't beat them.

Booker T's a good preformer who's still got a couple more years left in him as long as his mind stays in it. One lose isn't much, but if the WWE starts jobbing him down without giving him any real storylines, it's a waste of a talent and one more sign that they don't know what they're doing anymore.

It's BECAUSE it's fake, not in spite of it, that wins and loses mean more than they would if it were a real sport. At least then if you lose it's your fault and you had total say in it. Here if you lose it's because someone told you that you were going to lose. For a job where only those with great egos can survive, that's a hell of a thing to learn to live with.

Ugh...Benoit vs. Jordan two more times.

I wish they would just put Benoit in a US title feud already with Christian or Rey Mysterio. This is getting ridiculous.

Benoit constantly beating a slug like Jordan in 23 second matches doesn't exactly bring the "honor" back to the US title as some have said.

So, the divas match between Christy and Stacey, which I didn't really care about to begin with, got even more "I could give a shit" when Sylvain Grenier, apparently doing the generic blond Nordic guy gimmick, came out to talk about how flamboyantly gay he is. As if we don't have enough guys on the roster whose gimmick is to be flamboyantly gay. But hold on, Hardcore Holly to the rescue! I'm surprised the two of them didn't fall into the black hole of "Who cares?"

The Benoit/Jordan thing was good, but honestly, they're going to have a third match between them next week? When is Jordan going to exit stage right and allow us the opportunity to see a real contender for the U.S. Title?

So next week we've got Batista/JBL for the World Title, Eddie Guerrero battling Rey Mysterio for the twenty-seven quadrillionth time, LOD and MNM for the tag-team title, Benoit and Jordan for the U.S. Title... you know, I saw all these matches a couple months ago, and it was called The Great American Bash. For that matter, I saw three of those matches only a couple weeks ago at SummerSlam. Good to see WWE's building new feuds and creating new ideas. (But wait, two of them now have new gimmicks attached!) Whoop-dee-do.

But hey, overall I liked SmackDown this week. Ken Kennedy is continuing to make me grin both with his wrestling ability and his promo-cutting. I'm glad to see the continuation of the feud between Booker T and Christian. And I thought Batista's thing with Simon Dean was hilarious, particularly when he posed with the Simon System Milk while pinning Dean after a Batista Bomb.

I could have gone without Randy Orton defeating Rey Mysterio, but it was a very good match, anyway, and it continues the angle of "Hey, Randy can't win a match without his daddy interfering on his behalf." Which is much better than Randy Orton as the douchebag heel who still manages to defeat all his opponents cleanly.

Overall SmackDown wins the SmackDown vs. RAW war for me this week. Then again, I think everyone knows I was pretty disappointed with RAW.

So that Friday Night Smackdown commercial was maybe the worst ad for anything I've ever seen. "You could go out to an exciting nightspot ... you could enjoy gourmet food and fine wine ... you could make love to a beautiful woman ... or you could stay home and watch wrestling!" Gee, sign me up.

Wow, I didn't see that commercial, but that's incredible. I'd agree that the "stay home and watch wrestling" option is definitely the lesser of the four. But then, nothing says you can't do all four at the same time, although the management of the restaurant would have to be a pretty tolerant management indeed.
