From 1wrestling:

(1) Kurt Angle defeated Marty Jannetty via submission with the Ankle Lock. Jannetty looked good, was over with the live crowd, and escaped the Ankle Lock several times.

(2) Booker T beat Luther Reigns. Afterwards, Heidenreich cut a promo saying that Booker had inspired him to be more ethnic.

(3) Paul London pinned Billy Kidman.

The Big Show cut a promo on Akebono.

WWE GM, Eric Bischoff and RAW Superstar, Randy Orton were preparing to sign the WrestleMania 21 contract to wrestle Undertaker. Once Taker's music started and he made his entrance, Orton ran away. (Orton is being turned heel again and will join SmackDown after WrestleMania 21)

(4) John Cena, Eddie Guerrero & Rey Mystertio defeated JBL & The Bashams.

From PWInsider:

I attended Smackdown in Savannah last night. The following is what I remember. The Civic Center is a rather small arena. It's great for wrestling as even the cheap seats are good seats. Even with that, the camera side was fairly empty last night.

I haven't been watching a lot of Smackdown the last few weeks (since that last awful PPV that left me feeling ripped off), so I'm a little out of it on the story lines. There was one dark match featuring a tag team bout. Never heard of either team. One of the teams had a manager. Velocity was what it was. Save an hour of your time and find something entertaining to do this weekend. Highlight was a Charlie Haas match. Haas has all the moves in the ring. I've seen the guy wrestle several times and he always performs at a high level. We also saw Bob Holly on Velocity as well. I found the pop for Holly rather surprising.

On to Smackdown. Show opened with Kurt Angle in the ring cutting a promo on Shawn Michaels and telling Marty Jannetty that his tag match with Michaels on Monday was not going to help him prepare for a match with an Olympic Gold Medalist. Marty looks great. Last time I saw him, he looked like he was on the Ricky Morton diet. He's gotten into shape and can still go in the ring. This was the longest match of the night. Angle obviously works a less physical match than I've seen him put on in the past, but he still puts it together as well as anyone in the business. Very good match that did not steal any heat from Marty if they plan to use him in the future. Ending saw Marty tapping out after escaping the ankle lock twice.

JBL and Theodore long in the back. Long tells JBL that if Cena touches him before WrestleMania, he would lose his title shot. However, he was suspending the stipulation for one night in a tag match where Cena could have JBL from "bell to bell." Of course, JBL was joined by the new US Champion--Orlando Jordan. Huh? I haven't been watching, but this guy deserves a title run? And Cena deserves a title match after losing to this guy? If WWE puts the title on Cena, they could have easily had a tournament for the belt. The Smackdown PPVs can use all the help they can get. This reminds of David Arquette for World Champ.

Luther Reigns and Booker T are next. Heidenreich is at the announce table. He exchanges some words with Booker T before the match, but doesn't interfere as The Book cleanly finishes Reigns with the Ax kick. Afterwards, Heidenreich cut one of those poetry promos that make absolutely no sense. Oh well, at least I could see myself on TV the whole time.

Between the matches, Torrie, Jackie, and Dawn Marie were in the audience taking pictures and posing with the crowd.

We're back and it's time to sign the contracts. Out comes long followed by a surprise visit from Bischoff who takes the mic to introduce Raw's Randy Orton. Crowd quickly to their feet and popping. Long introduces Smackdown's phenom, the Undertaker. Crowd is going nuts now. Taker signs the contract. Orton picks up the pen then cuts a promo telling Taker that the difference between him and the other 12 guys Taker beat at WrestleMania is that he's not scared of him. He signs the contract and slaps Taker. Long and Bischoff clear the ring quickly. Orton gets out the ring and slowly makes his way up the ramp looking back at Taker. The Taker raises his arms and boom explosions for Orton. Let's face it, the Taker gimmick works. Biggest pop of the night and the guy never says a word.

Time for popcorn. Billy Kidman and Paul London are next. This was the only match of the night with no WrestleMania build. Billy Kidman is talented and I know there are a lot of people out there that like his work. My problem is the guy seems to sleep his way through matches. He knows all the moves and puts them together well, but he doesn't put on "great" matches with anyone. Add that the guy has the personality of a pet rock and it's bathroom time. Paul London gets the pin with a 450 splash.

Big Show comes out to cut a prom on Akemono for their Sumo match at WrestleMania. Sumo??? Give me a break. Big Show could even look mildly interested in this match. Hope they have a surprise planned.

Backstage, JBL and Jordon are still looking for Cena. JBL has come up with a plan to make Cena mad so that he'll hit him and lose his title shot at Mania.

Chavo cuts a great promo on Eddie backstage. Chavo tells Eddie that last year he was World Champ, now he's tag champs with Rey. He tells him that with all the times Rey has beat him, if you can't beat em', join em'. He tells Eddie that Rey's holding him back. Chavo tells Eddie to do the family a favor and quit calling himself a Guerrero. Yeah, I can't spell it.

During one of the photo ops, Dawn Marie gets fed up with the Smackdown Diva winner stealing her shots and a cat fight breaks out. Refs quickly break it up. Not sure if this one is on TV.

JBL finds Cena in the back and tries to make him hit him. Cena restrains himself then tells JBL, thanks for the pep talk, he'll see him in the ring.

Tag match features JBL and Bashams vs. Eddie, Rey, and Cena. If you've never seen them live, the only thing you can try to do in a match like this is keep your eyes on Eddie and Rey. They're quick and if you blink, you miss something. Cena gets his hands on JBL a couple of times, but nothing spectacular. Ending saw Eddie take down one of the Bashams and head to the top for the Frog Splash. Rey comes over the top rope for the Plancha and the pin as Eddie looks on disappointed. The faces leave the ring and we're out. After Smackdown goes off the air, Long comes out and tells JBL that he will have to face Cena one more time. He reassures Cena that he has his back... Holla holla holla. Cena comes out and is quickly jumped by Jordan and the rest of the Cabinet. Out comes big show who takes down the entire Cabinett leaving JBL easy pickings for Cena. And we're out.

SmackDown is a pretty big question mark as far as WrestleMania goes. It looks like they're going with Booker v. Heidenreich, which is odd since their last PPV match was such a dissapointment. The plan was for Eddie Guerrero v. Rey Mysterio, but we're now only two-and-a-half weeks away and there is no build for that match. If they don't wrestle, then I guess it'd be a Tag Title match against the Bashams, but that doesn't scream 'WrestleMania' to me. I don't see any match built up for the United States Title. I thought they were going with Paul London v. Chavo Guerrero, but they've seemed to slow down that build up, with Chavo being heavily involved with Eddie, and Paul wandering aimlessly (like always).

While I'm excited about the PPV, because it is WrestleMania and there seems to be some interesting stuff lined up, it just seems like this card is getting thrown together. By next weeks' SmackDown we'll be only a week-and-a-half out, and there seems to be nothing lined up for the undercard on this brand.

I thought that the no DQ match between Booker T & Heidenreich was the "blow-off" match of the feud?

And just think it was only 2 years ago Booker T was vying for the World title at Wrestlemania ...

Heidenreich wants to be 'more ethnic?' Holy cow, that could be hysterical! When he reads poetry, he can recite Maya Angelou or Langston Hughes or Gabriel Garcia Marquez. He can wear the Malcolm X black suit and glasses and speak out against the white devil. He'll try to talk to Long in the back and casually refer to him as, "his n-word," and have no idea why Teddy gets irate at him. He can feud with Cena, getting on him for being a white man trying to pass himself off as a rapper. He can do promos for UPN's shows, lauding them for making programming catering to his people. At the next Snitsky Super Summit: "I like your poetry." "And I like what you did to that baby's mama, fo shizzle!" If we didn't already know what a block of oak Heidi was, this would be amazing and get him over huge.

This JBL/Cena no-touch angle reminds me of how awesome it was when Austin and HHH did it. They're signing the match contract, then Hunter kicks the crap out of Stone Cold. Vince is getting ready to suspend HHH, but The Game shows that he never actually signed. He then signs and is protected from retaliation from Steve. Great stuff. If the spoilers aren't incomplete and there's nothing preventing Bradshaw from touching Cena, then JBL and The Cabinet should lay a complete ass whupping on Cena for the next couple of weeks, and Cena has to quietly take it Gandhi-style. If it's possible for him to be any more of a face going into Wrestlemania and for the match to have any more juice, that would give it. Or, if the non-contact is mutual, Cena can go juvenille and do the old, "I'm not touching youuuuuu...." finger point little brother trick to Bradshaw. JBL having to put up with it would be good for a giggle.

Now I hate to go off on a rant here, Chachi, but what kind of lame-ass write-up was that PWI report anyway? Don't know the name of the tag teams in the dark match, or even their manager? (I'll assume it was Nitro/Matthews/Melina, which would already make me more informed than that clown, and I've never crossed the Savannah town line.) Not even mentioning the Velocity matches? Not knowing Orlando was US Champ? Daring to compare Orlando to WCW Champion Sheriff Dewey?(Hint: One's entire in-ring experience prior to getting the belt didn't have Martin Landau and Oliver Platt in close proximity.) Akemono? Befuddlement at the spelling of Guerrero? I know you shouldn't heap false praise if the show actually blew, and I know someone on the net writing about something without major prior knowledge isn't some wacky high-fallutin' new concept, but if you're going to enter the sweepstakes to be the person whose recap of the show gets posted, at least bring it. Of course, that leads to why PWInsider picked him the winner of the essay contest. The writer must has a tight body and is highly marketable, because I have to imagine someone wrote in who actually paid attention.

And what's the deal with the conflicting reports on what happened at the contract signing? I'll have to give Anna Kournikova there some dap and assume he got it right. The 1Wrestling recapper must have been referring to Orton bailing like everyone does when Taker enters. But the lack of mentioning anything else makes it sound like Randy ran, never returned, and was leaving on the midnight train FROM Georgia.

I better stop now. It's just that I'd hope that someone in the audience could contribute a coherent report and make their commentary, should they attempt to add some, insightful in their enjoyment or funny in their sarcasm.

So what was ultimately the issue that worried Americans enough to go out to vote? Terrorism? War quagmires? Whispers of a draft? Lost jobs? Don't be an elitist. Our great national crisis:

Filipino Elvis is SO right about that PWI report. If you haven't watched the SD show, you should not be giving your insight into the product. I'm more lenient on the whole to smarky comments put in reports, but the author HAS to know what's going on. If you don't know the reasons how O(rlando)J(ordan) got the title, then don't give me a PARAGRAPH on your uninformed thoughts.

I gotta give the WWE and the W's credit on Marty Jannetty getting some respect in the Angle match. I thought it would be a squash, but it works better this way.

At the very least, said poem absolutely needs to begin with "I was born a poor black child". :)

Well if anyone was debating watching the show tonight, the match was great. Long with great action. Slowed down and bored the crowd in the middle (Angle's "The Pug" style 5 minute array of waistlocks) but they were hot for the rest of it, going nuts for Marty at the end, and Jannetty impressed the hell out of me considering what I was expecting going into this week. Catch it on whatever time you can if it's still going to air where you are.

OMEGA RED: "The plan was for Eddie Guerrero v. Rey Mysterio, but we're now only two-and-a-half weeks away and there is no build for that match."

They've been doing skits with Chavo building to it every week and the finish of the main event also sets it up. It won't be 'made' until two weeks out, but it's going to be a babyface respect match so there was no big physical angle for them to shoot.

"it just seems like this card is getting thrown together."

I would say that about a card like stupid ass ass-stupid Wrestlemania 18's, but not this year's. It looks poor in comparison to last year's buildup, but if you look at the Manias of the post-Russo workrate era of great Wrestlemanias, you won't find much difference in terms of how much lead-in all the matches got. They really blew up 16 but bad, for instance.

And 15!! I will never forget how they build the matches for Roaddogg and Mr Ass: Roaddogg feuded with Al Snow for weeks and weeks. They threw in Hardcore Holly and everybody was waiting for Roaddogg/Holly/Snow for the HC title at Mania!
On the other side they had Mr Ass, who was feuding with Ken Shamrock for quite some time. They threw Val Venis and Ken Shamrocks "sister" in. And in the last minute they added Goldust to the mix, so everybody was expecting Ass/Venis/Shamrock/Goldust for the IC title at Mania!

And what did WWE do?? One or two weeks before WM Roaddogg won the IC title and Mr Ass won the HC title! Give me a break!!

But that wasnīt enough, because it didnīt mean they would go on with the respective feuds and just change the belts. No! They said "To hell with the feuds" and just changed the matches! Now Mr Ass wrestled Snow and Holly and Roaddogg wrestled those other three guys with no storyline or build at all!! Now thats great booking to me!

IRT Rey/Eddie/Chavo angle:

I'm beginning to wonder if they'll pull the swerve and try to turn Rey heel. It wouldn't be a WM without the token shocking heel/face turn of doom.

It seems that if they try to turn Eddie heel, it'll bomb like last time. But that looks like the direction they're going.

Does anyone else possibly see Los Guerreros vs. Rey & Psichosis?

According to a story at PWInsider.com, a press release sent out via Lucha VaVoom confirmed he had signed a WWE deal.
