| #1 Posted on 21.10.03 1347.31 | According to Dave Sherer at 1bob.com, Heyman is backstage at the Smackdown Tapings, and will be introduced as the new GM. According to Sherer, the wrestlers are pleased and surprised.
I for one hope that Heyman's return signals the beginning of a trend back towards a more in-ring type product and a less RAW-like style.

Good news, though, for the entire SmackDown crew. If he's just an on-air talent, he has an uncanny ability to build other workers with his presence (Brock, Show, almost everyone he managed in WCW, etc., etc.) If he's back as a writer, than SmackDown may just escape the rut it's in right now.
I was really hoping he'd return as a commentator, but either way, here's hoping Paul E. is back!!!

That is awesome. And you know it's good for backstage morale. Ubercool. Hope he keeps the scarf and baseball cap.

| #9 Posted on 21.10.03 1531.34 | Instant Rating: 6.02 | I'm just mentioning it because the convoluted stories make my eyes bleed:
So Vince will have given the SD GM job to two of the three people who tried to run him out of business? And gave RAW to Eric Bischoff? You wonder why the man isn't making as much money as he used to. (And how great is that SS ad: "The WWE and football ... Nah.")
I know. I know. "Anything can happen here in the WWE" and all that. But a nod to big, past stories would be a nice tip of the hat to longtime fans.
I'm just grumbling because I didn't hear Steph's attempts to oust Vince mentioned during the build-up to No Mercy. Woulda made for a better match if both could have played heels instead of sweet, demure Steph getting abused by her giant muscular daddy. Ick. Ew.
But back to the subject: If it pans out, thank GOD. Heyman is one of a small few in the WWE (Flair, Rock, Eddy) that could get me to listen to weekly 20-minute promos.

Paul Heyman never tried to run WWE out of business. ECW and WWE had a good working relationship. And Eric Bischoff is merely a character on Raw. He has no control.

I think he means in storyline form. According to storylines, Steph and Heyman DID try to run WWF out of business.
But didn't Bisch join the Kiss My Ass Club? That would explain why he's got RAW, in storyline, anyway.
Dammit, now MY eyes are bleeding.
Does this make any sense? Let's say you're at a restaurant, and you see a man stagger away from the bar and walk directly into the wall, mistaking it for a door, banging his face and falling down, only to pick himself up and walk into the wall again, and then again, over and over. Would you say to yourself: "I admire that man! He is loyal to the tactic of walking into the wall, in the hope that it eventually will turn into a door!"

I suspect he means in storyline, but storyline continuity has never been WWE's strength. So two of the three invasion leaders are Smackdown GM's, and Shane was threatened as Bischoff's replacement at one point.

Yeah, Heyman's a power-hungry dickweed type who tried to kill the WWE/F when it was at a weak point. Once he lost, however, you'll notice that he shifted quite easily to managing Brock Lesnar... he's a good enough businessman to know when to join 'em. And Vince is a good enough businessman to know that he couldn't find anyone better to run his shows than someone who has considerable experience running their own fed, past or no past. He's already been pretty clear about putting the company over anything else (in his own twisted way).
Plus, of course, there's the whole ego thing. Heyman'll be Vince's employee, storyline-wise. Taking someone who tried to put you down and making them answer to you would appeal to his character.

Yeah, I was talking about storylines regarding Vince/Paul.
I can dig Nate the Snake's logic to explain Paul's character's existence in the WWE. Just like Vince explained at one time he wouldn't ultimately fire Austin because he wanted to cash in on all that licensing.
We last saw Paul when Brock got his belt back from Big Show and Heyman, right?

IIRC, the last time Heyman was on TV was when he lost a match to Brock Lesnar a couple weeks before Lesnar beat Angle for the title @WMXIX.

Brock devastated Heyman - even as Angle tried to get involved, and we never saw Heyman again.
I'm not sure where everything was supposed to go from there because that's about when Angle got hurt and was supposed to be out a year.
