I think this will probably result in Eddie devolping a casual fan "cult following" like Kurt Angle has going. I think he will remain a "heel" though, officially, not unlike Kurt.

I hate to tell you this, but it wasn't canned heat.

Eddy cut a great promo on the crowd that wasn't aired. He basically called out all of the Mexicans in the crowd and said that he was the only true Latino Heat. Basically, they ensured that the crowd would Boo Eddy.

The promo was not a TV promo - you can tell it wasn't cut. We were the only people that were supposed to see it.

When those Eddy chants started, it was me, and about 5 guys with an 858 sign that were across from the camera. We got the back section going, but each time we did an Eddy Sucks chant started up louder and stronger and took us out.

So, to reiterate - I was there and what you heard was really what happened. The crowd really was that into the match.

AWESOME, AWESOME Smackdown! One of the best I've seen in a long time.

GOOD:
-EDDIE~!/EDGE~!: In any other universe, this would be Match of the Year. How messed up is it that it's probably not even Match of the Week (Benoit/Angle, anyone?)? But that doesn't take away from what was an AMAZING match!

-Chavo/Rikishi: Rikishi's best match in ages. I just hope I don't see Chavo's ass EVER AGAIN!

-The Main Event: This is a match I wouldn't mind seeing again. The 619 into Angle was pretty brutal.

-The Bikini Contest: I <3 Nidia. 'Nuff said.

-The Unambiguously Heterosexual Duo/Noble & Tajiri: Billy and Chuck seem to have new life now that their characters have taken this twist. But I agree with Scott Keith. Chuck seems to look GAYER now that he's supposedly straight.

-Sell THIS!: Brock's destruction of Undertaker was almost enough to make me forget last Sunday's abomination. Almost.

BAD:
-Matt Hardy goes SQUISH now!: WHAT THE HELL IS IT WITH UNDERTAKER AND SQUASHING THE HARDYZ?! HE'S BEEN SQUASHING THEM SINCE DECEMBER!!

But that's only one bad thing to go with a helluva lot of good, making this the best Smackdown in a LONG time!

"That's right! You suckas better FIND somewhere to run! 'cause it's me - Booker T - not only am I the Scorpion King, but I'm the five-time WCW Champion - and I got a sword, too! Now can U dig THAT - SUCKAAAAAS"

Excellent show. I can't decide between Edge/Eddie & Rey/Kurt/Chris. I'm 100% with Aphrodite's summary of the Rey/Kurt/Chris match. And Edge/Eddie was great. Its rough being a west-coaster -- everything's already been said.

BTW, It's False & Great Thomas are both just giddy about Nidia in a bikini, but whining about Chavo's tushie? C'mon!! :-)
(Chavo does have a perfectly nice little tushie -- Mr Heel's female friends are quite correct.)

-Rikishi v. Chavo- Must admit Rikishi is in my Bradshaw category of "I can't stand" wrestlers. Everytime he comes out I *sigh*. There were some good stuff, Chavo counter to the bonzi drop with the knees. But too much stinkface spots with both Chavo and Rikishi. I wished Rikishi could have gone heel to stop this idiotic element... I know it gets pops but I hate it.

-Torrie/Nidia bikinis- Okay Nidia was pretty cool again. Sneakers, the bad dance. But it is a unimaginary "your body got more pops then mine" story, which is so tired. Plus Torrie being so vanilla doesn't help either. Props to Nidia gum spit, best one since Hennig. Did Tazz add 6 + 9= 14 (lol). Oh yeah B&C trying to prove there cool ungayness is sad... Billy/Chuck v. Tajiri/Noble- Decent match, Billy sold the leg like a motha (that's a compliment), I still can't stand Billy/Chuck more then ever without Rico.

-Funaki/Lesner- Funaki number one Smackdown announcer is so strangly over...lol

-Edge v. Eddie- I'm not really comfortable saying who carries who. But gosh Eddie looked amazing. Sunset flip powerbomb Oww. Love how the crowd respond to it. Love how the announcer put it over. It just makes me scratch my head wondering why can't these guys be put on top. I personally would have NO problem with it and the fans in that arena didn't either. Hopefully the lame and overused Eddie does my lawn signs will stop.

-Undertaker v. Matt Hardy- Why is it now that I get into Matt Hardy after all these years they have him punked out by Taker. Oh I guess just being in the same ring with him is giving Matt "the rub"... Well atleast Lesner punked out Taker afterwords.

-Mysterio v. Benoit v. Angle- Angle is classic again (copy & paste every week) His comments on Mysterio & Benoit before the match was just to rich... Interesting match. It looked like the struggled a few times and it wasn't the smoothest of matches. But still awesome. How Chris & Kurt underestimating Rey to get at eachother and Rey never quiting was a nice undertone. I like the Angle trying to get out of the crossface and tumble just to find himself in the middle of the ring and further away from the ropes. I just found that interesting like Angle trying to get out screwed up. it was cool. THe whole match was cool.

other stuff - a decent Benoit interview, Telling Lloyd "You suck:" out of no where was funny... Angle with Steph was cute "whoop there it is"... Well it was an interesting reaction from Torrie to Dawn on her bikini challenge next week. She kinda looked annoyed. Dawn looked fantastic.

Did Steph say the womens title is exclusive to Raw? Oh great, I was looking forward to see Trish mix up with NEW people and new feuds on SD. And the logic of the GM who says women wrestling sucks having the womens division makes my brain hurt... Of course you could have made a little storyline out of it with steph pushing how she respects women to sign Trish and Eric pushing something to keep Trish at Raw, maybe to get revenge at a heel who did her wrong or maybe uses recent TV-bud Lil as a reason for Trish to stay. Anything!!! But that would mean putting thought into it and having two girls fight cause one had a bigger pop for showing her bikini is the cut and paste formula for women. Speaking of Trish I like the chick with the Trish cowboy hat in the front row camera side(so couldn't see her much) nice.

Still loving that No Mercy ad. But I did notice that in one scene they had kid-Jericho, kid-HHH and kid-Trish all going to the door. Guess who was the smallest by ALOT. Yup Jericho. That damn Triple H, having the huge kid play him and the tiny kid, smaller then the girl play Jericho.

Worst sign of the night, Usually do the best but I saw a "Put the Hardy boyz back 2 gether" yup actually spelt it with a 2. NOOO Finally these damn guys, especially Matt are interesting don't listen to the damn Xtreme freaks.

jeers for WWE.com for on there front homepage (on Thursday) hyping Smackdown what did they have! Nidia v. Torrie in a bikini match. You have a damn MOTY with Edge/Eddie, you have a amazing main event and what do you put a graphic hyping a Nidia v. Torrie bikini contest. That's just messed up.

Random Smackdown Thoughts:

I liked the segment with Funaki and Brock.

Edge-Eddy match was awesome. I did hear a couple of Eddie chants.

You know Smackdown rules when Benoit has a good interview.

I enjoyed the Undertaker squash on Matt Hardy for some reason. I also liked Lesnar's attack on Taker.

The main event was pretty good, too.

Overall, a near-perfect Smackdown.

I'm with Guru here. RawLo and I had floor seats next to the ramp for the show, and the crowd was hot all night. And the standing O for Eddie lasted until he disappeared behind the cutain. It was a great show of respect for a great performer.

That was an awesome show for an awesome crowd. Giving Eddie a Standing Ovation was beautiful after that match. San Diego RULES! Even watching at home I could sense the atmosphere as most of the crowd I could see were on their feet after the ladders came out. There were a couple of parts in that match where I was just staring at the screen with my jaw on the floor. I love skipping the spoilers and marking out like I did when I was 12 years old. It's shows like this that I wish everyone would get a chance to see, even wrestling haters. The whole night was just incredible.

I used to live above SD, and I can't believe that the crowd was so hyped. SD is not a very good wrestling town, at least I didn't think so. Hell, I spent hours trying to just find a wrestling T-shirt a while back. And I had maybe one friend where I worked that was even acknowledging wrestling.
Oh well, I'm just glad SD got a good show, and the crowd rewarded the WWE for it.

I can believe that SmackDown is from the same people who bring us Raw on some levels. SmackDown does have problems that need to be addressed from the story-telling level. Noble's cruiser division and his heart-wrenching story of never going hungry again as the champ (terrific stuff) seems to be largely MIA from SmackDown, which is a damn shame. I'm not sure I can handle another month of Brock/UT, especially with no promise that it's going to end the way it needs to, with Brock absolutely wiping the Undertaker out so he can recover from the momentum-killing double whammy that UT and HHH put on him the night after Summerslam.

And, like Raw was last month, SmackDown's pretty heavily weighted towards a middle of the card feud and sadly thin on the upper and lower ends.

But this is where SmackDown turns a negative into a positive. A huge positive. Raw's big gridlock in the middle had five of their very best guys (Booker, Goldust, Storm, Regal, Christian) in an angle that was completely limiting all of them and hurting both them and the show. Booker and Goldust only seem to have survived it through sheer force of will. But SmackDown has five of their best guys (Angle, Eddie, Misterio, Benoit, Edge...make is six and throw in Chavo, who has been great) and probably the five best guys in the company at the moment in an angle and wide-reaching feud that's allowing them to work to the best of their abilities.

All of which is to say, even if there are some underlying problems on SmackDown I hope they can fix, when you put the five best guys in the company out there for two tremendous matches, you can't go wrong, and SmackDown was terrific because of their efforts.

I have been (and every time I watch Raw or see them potentially missing opportunities with people like Matt Hardy and Noble, still can be) unhappy with a lot of things, but this is one of those lines that you can draw where you can tell if you're genuinely just not happy with certain things or are fatally predisposed to not like anything that's going to happen (just as others are determined to like everything, no matter what). Edge vs. Eddie was great, it just was.

I've seen, already, some complaints that it was just gratuitous garbage-match stuff with the ladders, but I have to disagree. I never really cared for the garbage or spot style - the TLC matches haven't been my kind of thing. And there is proper and actually very smart build up to the SmackDown match. They've escalated things so that Edge and Eddie have a rivalry and we have recent history with Eddie in decisive and brutal ladder matches via his feud with Van Dam a few months ago. So it makes sense that, given the chance to use one and the extended feud with Edge, that's where Guerrero would go to put him away.

Once you get into the match, it really was good, with the bulk of the match having them stalemate until the ladder comes in and Eddie takes over with it and tries to really put Edge away (that rolling senton with Edge sandwiched between the two ladders was pretty wild). You can maybe argue that it could have been over with the flipping powerbomb over the ladder - we got to see that a bit back in the Jung Dragons ladder match stuff in WCW, and it was nifty then, too - but they finished with an even bigger move, so it worked out. As I said after the RVD/Eddie match back on Raw, I don't want to see it all the time, but when they do it and it's as great as this was, I'm glad to have seen it. Eddie's been simply amazing since he came back and Edge is really on right now.

I agree with those who think the main event was just as entertaining. Benoit and Angle trying to do their match while Angle and Misterio try to do their match was a hell of concept for the three of them and it built to that great finish where Misterio forced the two of them out of the match he couldn't win (the Benoit/Angle match) and into one he could by getting Benoit to remove Angle from the finish and then using the tricks he has against Angle previously on Benoit, who hasn't seen them and couldn't counter them like Angle learned to do.

Misterio is every bit as fun to watch as he was in WCW before he stopped being the masked version of his character. He does some stuff that just stuns me, even after all this time, like letting Benoit just chuck him out of the ring feet first or that vault over one guy out to the other on the floor and a new take on his amazing agility by doing the Angle-tosses-Misterio-over-his-head where he lands on his feet by having Benoit toss him over his head only to have Misterio land on the second rope and bounce right back for the finish so Benoit couldn't react. Past that, he's doing a great job of playing his part against different styles to create the plot of the matches and after that unfortunate detour in the mixed tag match last week, he's back to the underdog superman aspect of his character again, which is always nice.

Angle is still the best guy they have, so you can count on great stuff like this from him. And Benoit is almost up there with how Angle and Eddie have been the past few months, for me, so he's always going to be fun to watch. And I'm consistently enteratined when he tries and fails to do the awesome Smirking Bret Hart interview like he did last night.

So there's the big key as to why SmackDown is miles ahead of Raw. Give me any combination of feuds (and they can all go to feuds and not just matches because they mix so well) among Angle, Guerrero, Benoit, Misterio and Edge and I'd be happy. Throw in Chavo and Noble and you're not dropping a step. Angle/Eddie, Eddie/Misterio, Benoit/Misterio, Benoit/Edge, Benoit/Eddie, Chavo/Angle, Chavo/Eddie, Noble/Misterio, Noble/Benoit, Noble/Eddie, Noble Angle, they'd all be top-notch and I'd be happy to see them. And you have a guy like Hardy who could slide right in, too. In the short term, they could go to Eddie/Angle and Benoit/Misterio right now with the characters where they are and I can't imagine that not making for another month or two of great SmackDowns. These guys putting on matches like they did last night make the smaller problems on SmackDown seem like nothing.

Things have changed. I went to Vengeance last December as well as this taping, and the crowds were hot for both shows. Even the dark matches and Velocity got good crowd heat.

Line of the night came from Tazz, explaining the scoring for the bikini contest:

"Scoring on the 10 point must system"

SD was an awesome show. 3 good -> great matches (tag, Eddy/Edge, Kurt/Benoit/Rey) and Torrie in a bikini. Now, if they can only get Rikishi off TV, I'd be happy (esp. since Kidman makes a SD appearance once every couple months).

Wow, that's a lot of reasons. Awesome show last night, and had lots of fun too! It's a shame that Steph has all the fun people on her show, but I get both RAW and Smackdown here anyway, so what the hell?!

Smackdown was incredible, I liked how they showed us what happened during the commercial break so you weren't lost if the momentum shifted during that time. The standing ovation was great, and you could see the emotion in Eddie when he was looking at the crowd. All must show respect for Master Eddie.

Benoit/Angle/Misterio was excellent and managed to incude everyone and have a nice flow without being too crowded. It was a great ending how Angle and Benoit were united in their anger at Mistero at the end.

The commentary was excellent at usual. Tazz really sets the tone when he introduces Brock Lesner with those four little words: "Here comes the pain."
