Smackdown Live had a fantastic New Day vs The Usos Tornado Tag match. New Day regains the title. I'm a big fan of Tornado Tags and this one didn't disappoint. Nasty bumps, ugly falls, hard hits. It felt like these guys really hated each other. It ruled.

Kevin Owens also busted open Vince McMahon with a Shibata headbutt and then continued to pummel the CEO and Chairman of the company until he sort of came to his senses. This also ruled. Kevin Owens is the perfect guy to put in an Attitude Era McMahon angle. I'm usually not on board with the McMahon stuff, but this also ruled.

Other stuff happened too.

For a little bit of context to that second item. VKM came out and started off by brushing aside the lawsuit threat, telling Owens he's been in plenty and never lost one -- and at the end he'd be a billionaire and Owens would be bankrupt. He then claimed he suspended Shane not for hitting Owens but for failing to finish the job after he besmirched the McMahon name. Finally, he said he was un-suspending Shane and booking a Hell in the Cell match for Shane and Owens (as has been rumored).

Owens then said he wanted McMahon's word that "If I pummel a McMahon, it won't be held against me." VKM gave his word, they shook hands, and Owens headbutted him to start the attack, shouting "You gave your word! You said I could pummel a McMahon!" Good little twist, I thought.

I also thought the Usos-New Day match was strong, but the rest of the show was just kinda there. Naomi lost in her rematch with Natalya; Ziggler pretended to be another couple wrestlers (Bayley, Warrior); and the Hype Bros took another step toward breaking up with a loss to Gable/Benjamin.

Vince never lost a lawsuit...then why is this the WWE and not the WWF? Anyway, I kinda wished anyone, but Steph showed up to sorta help Vince. Like maybe Linda or even Sami to at least give us a mini-feud til Hell in a Cell happens. I like Shane, but he is getting way too many of these hype matches for me liking.

I remain amazed that the WWE maintains such faith in Owens. It's justified. It's wholly justified. But they're correctly mega-pushing the best all-around guy, and I'm always waiting for that wind to change for whatever reason.

Of course this could end with King Pedigree standing triumphant. But for now? Nice.

Because Smackdown isn't doing dumb "Shoot promos", it's just a storyline, not everything is meant to be literal. Which is one of the main reasons why this Owens vs. Shane is so good, a well written and acted story is better and more sensical storytelling than guys trying to do lame pipe bombs that actually make the wrestlers and product look bad.

The headbutt was brutal. I hope there's no repercussions. You never know with Vince.
And I wonder how this will evolve.
I guess Vince, despite all his bragging and asshole behavior is a face, just like Shane and thus Shane will defend his name and avenge the attack on his pops at HIAC.
But if they really wanted to, this could lead to Owens being the new Austin. The asshole who defies the boss and as a result of that is everyone's darling.

A match with Shane is considered an honor and a good spot, despite his many actual short comings so it's good for Owens.
AJ managed to get something good out of him. I'm sure Kevin will work his ass off to get a good HIAC match.

Usos and New Day work well together and have had great chemistry in all of their matches i feel.

Say what you want about HHH the RASSLER, but when he hand picks a guy (Benoit, Batista, Bryan, Rollins) they always end up standing triumphant.

I just want to watch Usos & New Day battle all the time.

Loved the KO bit. Hope they keep elevating him. He is a bigger heel on the roster than the champ.

Unrelated, but since I took too long and the Hurricane Irma post is closed... I saw wrestling while I was evacuating! Wild Adventures, a theme park here in Georgia, opened free for evacuees last Saturday. They were having a Stars of Wrestling show with meet and greets, all free for park guests. Our kid even won us seats front row by doing her best Bayley impression for the local DJ giving away upgraded seats.

Jimmy Hart bailed because he... stayed behind in Florida, for whatever reason you'd do that. Scott Steiner was there! I ran from a hurricane and met Scott Steiner! He was genuinely nice and talked with my kid for five minutes (first wrestler she's ever met). He even won the small indy company's world title, though I'm sure that won't be something that he'll continue to defend and was probably more of a "send the poor evacuees home happy" thing.

Marty Jannetty was there too... kinda. He was way, way messed up. Drunk, high, god only knows. He looked as lost as could be, came out wearing jeans and a t-shirt, and fumbled around with the poor guy he was having a match with. It was a sad five minutes.

Those were the only "names," though there were a few locals that impressed me.

I loved watching KO beat the crap out of Vince McMahon.

Scott Steiner's a nice guy, huh? He scares me! Like, if I saw him, the first thing I would say to him is, "Please don't hurt me."

He might've just been nice because of the situation of being surrounded by people running from hurricanes, but yeah he was nothing but pleasant to everyone. I was expecting the worst.

Is there any other big names they are trying to bring in for season 2 or 3? I would think they would try to bring in R.V.D. at some point. They don't need to over due it with American bases wrestlers though.
