There is no "theatre" mode. The best thing you can do is go into the create a wrestler and pretend to edit the entrance video/music and watch it there.

All the unlockables are for purchase in the Shopzone during season mode. There are no other "secrets".

Kinda wish everybody hd alternate costumes though like Wrestllemania XIX. But I love the fact they tell you what the alternate costume is before you choose it. I hate seeing Flair/Trips/Vince wrestle in a suit.

The credits video is unlockable, so that's something. Of course to get that you just need to beat Season mode, so, whatever.

Wisconsin Badgers: 6-3 (A Bye Week means you can't lose.)

Welp...

I've unlocked everything, I had a good midcard season with Hurricane, had a "never-lose" season with Goldberg, created my own wrestler and in my first season had only three losses, won the Royal Rumble, went to Wrestlemania and won the world title. So, with all of that said, after the fun experiences, the creativity and the matches, my final impression of the game is...

"That's it?"

For how much better the gameplay and graphics were, my overall feeling of HCTP is that it's a slight step back from the previous incarnation. The CAW feels a little more clunky and the secrets are a bit more lacking...but primarily, for me, the disappointment is in the season mode. It's really fun when you first play through it--but then you do it a second time, and you realize that it's really...linear. One of my favorite parts about Shut Your Mouth was the season mode, simply because it felt like you were actually carving your own path in the WWE. I LOVED the "run around backstage" interface; it added to the immersion in a wonderful, wonderful way. But most of all, the length of the season mode--along with the fact that your path was determined by the multitude of choices you made--made it really feel like each season was unique.

With HCTP, that feeling seems to be...gone. It's a lot more remniscent of No Mercy; rather than feeling like your decisions decide your path through the season, it leaves you with the feeling that you're on a predecided path, and your decisions are solely for show. Basically, one of the most important things in an immersive gaming environment, for me, is the feeling that I'M playing a role, rather than feeling that the role is playing me. In SYM, I got that; in HCTP, I did not.

I'd say, perfect would be HCTP's production values with SYM's writing.

The only comment I'd have for you is that the two things you mentioned ("run around backstage" and "longer season mode") were two of the biggest complaints THQ says they fielded last year (and I tend to believe them given what others have told me about their experience with the game as well as the general on-line trends I've noticed.

The running around thing was cheesy, tacked on, and only interesting insofar as you could find people to talk to back there, otherwise it was slow and a real time waster.

As for season mode, alot of people (myself included at times) couldn't be buggered to go through two full years of the game. That's ostenibly 116 matches (if you're booked every week and at PPVs, and not twice on the same card). If you think stories are linear and predictable NOW....

Wisconsin Badgers: 6-4 (A fun game, but more disappointing than the Paris Hilton video.)

Minnesota Vikings: 6-3 (Doug Flutie? Come on. The guy shouldn't be stretching the D at 41. Well, at least the Pack lost, pass me some Flutie Flakes.)

I can definitely see how people would complain about it; it's just my preference. If you want a point of reference for my sense of taste, do a search for "Daggerfall" and realize that that is one of my favorite games of all time.

I dug the running-around portion because it felt more realistic, to me. Yeah, it was obnoxious, but it was more of a simulation of the reality of the thing. It felt more lively to be able to run into the locker room or out the front or into the parking lot, to be able to peek out from behind the stage curtain and look at the crowd, let alone to be able to run around the areas, meet wrestlers and converse with them, than simply "splash screen, picture of your locker, fight, splash screen" etc. I didn't mind having my time wasted with it, as in a worst-case scenario, it took about as long to load the first room as the HCTP locker--and if you ran straight for 2 seconds, you'd be up against the match schedule board.

All in all, I'm not saying it was tactically unwise to take it out: I can definitely see how it would irritate people. Personally, however, I mourn, because it was one of my favorite parts, and were it my choice, you'd be able to choose which one you used.

C'est la vie.

I have no complaints about the storyline mode (so far; I'm taking it pretty slow). It's logical, not overly predictable and thus far, it hasn't been impossible to win once you hit a certain level. Mind you, I'm Goldberg in my first attempt; I've heard that you have much harder time of it playing as, say, John Cena.

The only thing I'm not crazy about is that it takes seemingly forever to accumulate enough $$$ to unlock all the legends. I'm still a few shy of unlocking all them.

Furry Hippie, thanks for all the link to that CAW site; it's the only one I've seen so far. The Hogan was decent (if you customize it a tad), but their Randy Savage was awful. So far, I definitely prefer Shut Your Mouth for creating people....

yes I agree with you. SYMs season mode really gave the feeling that you was in charge of the wrestler. And the season in HCTP IS too short. But hey..thats nothing compared to that you can't interference other matches. That really sucks. but as i think about it..you can edit "interference" in options mode so there has to be a way to interference matches. maybe i'm just a fool but I don't get it....
And why do they have to change the controls? Its so much harder to play now.
And there should be more attires to unlock. And the only female that got other attires is Stephanie McMahon.
I'd really loved to see Stacy also in other clothes.
And you still can't break others submission moves.

There's so much bad things about this game and I hope that he next game is better done.

I really couldn't disagree more about the season mode being too linear now.

In SYM, you pretty much played the same 2 year storyline through regardless of what you did. Yeah you could choose sides, but the major events remained the same.

One of the owners invaded the other show. You had to fight Hogan at WM. Vince/Flair aligned and broke up etc.

In this one theres so many different avenues depending on your wins/losses, what belts you hold, what show you're on, who you align with, your actions backstage and so on.

And if you go through a 2nd season with the same guy and carry over all records the story keeps going. Its a vast improvement as far as I'm concerned.

The only major gripe I have with the season mode is that when one story finishes, another starts, often without logic and continuity. For example, I won the belt as Vinces lap dog in the EC then the next month he claimed I was an unworthy champion without any explanation. I suppose it could be argued that such lapses in logic simply add to the realism though

What I wil say is that this felt very much like a sequel to SYM rather than a game in its own right. I've already gone back to playing Pro Ev 3 even though theres still lots of shit I haven't tried yet.

Which reminds me, I meant to find out what happens if you get someone bloody in the first fall of a 3 stages of hell match and then have a 1st blood match as the 2nd fall. Hmmm....

That assumes you were at the top of the card the whole time. If you allowed yourself to lose a bit, you weren't involved in the title hunt as much, and different things happened to you. I'm not sure if this applies to Hogan, but , for example, one year, instead of being in the Armageddon HitC match, I was in a ladder match with Edge. I'm sure there are still plenty of untapped storylines in that game that I will/have never see/n simply because I didn't bother to job myself out most of the time.

I *heart* this game.

A few highlights before I get into my season mode:
-As fun as one-player is, PLAY AGAINST A HUMAN OPPONENT! It's a blast. GrubbyLongJohns and I had a damn-near 45 minute Last Man Standing Match between Benoit and HHH. I lost count of how many Pedigrees I did (one of which was on the RAILING!). Triple H's default Pedigree is the head-straight-down version, like he did to that jobber on that Raw in '95.
-Niiice new moves have been added. The Styles Clash has already been mentioned, but I've also seen Low Ki's Ki Crusher 99, the Yokosuka Cutter (from Toryumon), and something called a Towerhacker Bomb Pin...a Torture Rack into a sit-out powerbomb pin. Whoa.
-The new grapple, reversal, and damage systems are great additions. It took me a while to get used to the changes, but now it feels natural.
-All the little animation tweaks are just beautiful. Cena's "You can't see me" taunt, Rock's sitting applause, Goldberg's "C'mon! Kick me!" grapple. Marvelous.

My season so far...
-I'm Goldberg on Smackdown. I brought over Jericho, Kane, and Hurricane as well and sent Taker, Show, Edge, and Rico(?) off to Raw. I removed Rock and Austin from the season for some sense of realism.
-Won the US Title on my first show from Eddie. However, I lost it to Benoit in a 3-way with Jericho on the show just before Backlash. Quickly got it back at Backlash.
-Forced to team with Kane (Anyone else think he looks REALLY goofy in the cutscenes?), but I kept being a dick to him so we had a cage match at Judgment Day. Beat him with his own chokeslam.
-Went through the Vince feud that includes JR and Lawler. Beat Vince fairly handily in the cage match at Bad Blood.
-Had to team with Kane again in the tag tournament for the Number 1 contendership. Beat Kane to face Brock at Vengeance. Kane constantly interfered in the match and finally chaired me down leading to a Brock pin. Hated losing, but that ended up being a well-booked story. (Funny bug after the match: Kane and Brock are celebrating in the ring, and both guys have the WWE Title belt on.)
-But my favorite Season moment didn't even involve me...

Yeah, Roddy has a death grip on the Cruiserweight belt for some reason. I eventually had to turn him off because I was sick of him always holding it.

12 or 13 in all, I think.

-8 regular Pedigrees
-2 on the table
-1 on the railing
-1 on the announce table

there might've been a couple more but that's all I remember.

Add me to the "this game is freakin' sweet" column. I'm more obsessed with this game than I was with SYM when I first got it. I'm not a big gamer either so playing a game for 3-4 hours in a day is pretty big for me.

Took me about an hour to get the hang of controls but after that it was smooth sailing. I've been doing a season with Cena and so far so good. I've raked up some losses but i've had alot of key wins too. Right now i'm post-Royal Rumble. Jericho and Cena are tag champs and we defeated A-Train and Big Show in a cage match.

Pointer: In a tag team cage match, always let one of your opponents get out first. That way you have a 2 on 1 advantage. In my case though, Jericho actually left me in the cage with Train and Show. But luckily Show climbed out right after.

A glitch that happened to me at the beginning of the season was Cena talking with Angle backstage. Angle was complaining about how "Benoit and Angle" still had the belts and that we could take 'em. So I agreed to form a team with Angle to take out the champs, Benoit and Angle. When I went to the stables menu, it didn't create our alliance but instead it had Cena and RVD together (but it was an inactive team seeing that we weren't on the same brand).

I can look past all those minor glitches though in exchange for the AWESOME controls of this game. It's amazing and you can have some great matches against the computer, and even better against an human opponent.

As far as the CAW goes, I was messing around with it last night (created indy wrestler Super Dragon) and IMO, it's alot deeper than the last game as far as customizable choices go. I mean there's like 3 layers of shirts and hundreds of boot styles. I think i'll just stick to using formulas I find online instead of creating a guy from scratch though. I'd be sitting in front of the screen forever.

And lastly, i'll admit the bra and panties match can be pretty fun.

I give this game two big thumbs up.

I think they do the switch where you have a title shot but the champion switches, unbeknownst to you. I ran into that against Lesnar, except I forgot that you have to actually win the match to get that. D'oh!

My only problem is that dear god, how the hell do you beat Lesnar if your going with a guy like Cena or them? I mean, I've pumped my stats as much as I could, but he still mauls me. I've tryed using weapons(hell the match was hardcore) but he always reverses a shot, and mauls me with Mjolnir or a steel chair.

I beat Lesnar with Cena once, but yeah, you really need to hit and run and such, as the guy's gonna counter a lot of your moves. And Hardcore isn't neccessarily a good thing, especially if he takes your chair or jackhammer and swing it back at you.

But for a regular season mode match, sometimes it's best to take the fight elsewhere, i.e. the ramp. The AI opponent won't throw you back in for the 3-count, and there's no count-outs. Just try your best to damage him down (regardless of how beat you are), and when you think you've done enough damage and have some Smackdown!s left... go back to the ring, knock him down when he jumps in, lift him up, toe kick, F-U, pin. And pray he's down.
