Then have the Clique as the old guard trying to hold onto the past.

But doesn't the Clique represent what Punk advocates: the "fun WWE?" A Connecticut blueblood dandy, a toyboy, a faux Cuban street thug, a bodyguard named after an engine, and a scrawny runt mascot ran roughshod on the industry, and they didn't play the Cena/Hulakamania card to get over.

If we expand the consideration to DX, we get Chyna (who Punk can't fully denounce if he's dating Beth), a cowboy ass fetishist, and a roadie. Cheaters, showmen, and jackals -- all of them.

Punk's fun stance works only if he selectively hearkens back to the '80s, doesn't it? That's the heyday of the fun WWF (and those ice cream bars) with its cartoons and gladhanding and rock albums. You get Macho and the Hart Foundation and Demolition and Bundy and Steamboat. But you also get Hogan and a neutered Junkyard Dog and Cyndi Lauper.

This discussion highlights what I thought of the Triple H vs. CM Punk promo segment: that it was rambling, redundant, unfocused and I did not walk away from it with a clear, fully-defined idea of where either guy is coming from.

Now back to Sin Cara. Oh, how I wish Gorilla Monsoon were alive. If Sin Cara returned and teamed with evil Sin Cara, we'd get Monsoon saying the line, "Sin Cara's been taking a lot of short cuts since coming under the tutelage of Sin Cara!"

I agree. And I agree with HMD above that the biggest problem was HHH's line about "the difference is, I did it to everybody's face!", which makes HHH out as the face and Punk as the conniving heel. This does absolutely nothing to help Punk, it makes him look like a weasel and makes HHH look like a stand-up badass. Punk's response to that was "So many things to say right now..." and the thing we want/need him to say (and I'm sure that he'd like to say) there is that HHH is full of shit, that he's actually the ultimate example burying people in meetings instead of to their faces, but that's the one thing he can't say (for various reasons; not necessarily HHH's ego, but because bringing up things like HHH pulling the rug out from under Booker T gets too close to the "everything but this is fake!" zone).

So I don't get the point of that line of talk out of HHH at all. It would have been better to stick with the simple idea of Punk saying that he's pushing HHH's buttons 'cuz it's fun and because he wants to force asshole HHH out of hiding, and Nash basically forcing HHH to defend his manhood even though HHH would rather take the high road. That still gives HHH wiggle room to not be a heel without having to be better than Punk.

As for Sin Cara, if they really are going with the Imposter angle, I'm curious how they pull it off. Am I mistaken that Mistico can't actually speak English well enough to cut a promo to come out and explain things? I mean, it'll be obvious there are two of them and one is a fake, but they still need someone to say where the real Sin Cara was all this time and why it's taken him so long to come back and stop Fake Sin Cara. In any case, I kind of love that the imposter could end up being a guy called Hunico or Icognito. That's like, accidentally clever. And I hope he sticks around and they pair him up with either Vickie or Del Rio or Ricardo so he has a mouthpiece and we get an actual heel luchador in a heel stable, which would be, er, Ășnico. Swagger/Evil Sin Cara would be a fine Big Guy/Fast Guy tag team, to tie things to that other thread.

He's still been recovering from injuries following the MITB Shemus beatdown and Hunico took his place (and apparently everyone in the company was stupid enough to buy it?). That would make as much sense as anything...right?

Or they go with John O.'s idea and have a swarm of Sin Caras. It's Sin Cara: The Clone Saga!

I refuse to live through another clone saga ever again. That was the Vietnam of comic books. HHH/Punk comes back to the fact that no one wants to be the heel and the person who is the heel ie Nash is no one wants to see. They are starting to really turn this into a mess. Punk had awesome valid points when he went head to head with Vince. With HHH, it just seems Punk is doing this for no reason. I did like Punk stating he was pushing buttons to get the old HHH back, but saying Suck It was gay was a bit off even though funny. Punk/Vince has a better dynamic than HHH/Punk mainly for what Hunter said about doing things for business. Vince was willing to do great business, HHH would rather get rid of the hottest thing they have for his own ego.

I don't take it that Punk is necessarily wanting to bring gimmicks back, he just wants to break the monotony. The saftey zone that WWE has been in for 10 years. He's against TV PG, but that isn't the whole thing. It is more about bringing back variety and entertainment.

He could really support this by pointing out how the WWF almost died when the Clique was in charge. How it was Austin, Rock, Foley, etc who made wrestling fun and saved the business. Then he could call HHH out and say that he married the boss's daughter, politiced, and drove those same guys out of the company. That as hard as he worked, the great matches, Chyna, DX, he NEVER was loved like Austin or Rock. So he had to marry Stephanie.

RE - Sin Cara

A friend of mine has the theory that WWE is working everyone by "sending Mistico home" and that on the upcoming Mexican tour Mistico will confront Incognito. The rationale is that WWE sees this as THE opportunity to capture the Mexican wrestling market. Incognito heeling on Bryan is the first sign.

If this is going to be the case, I'd suggest wrestling the whole match in the dark so we don't see any botched spots. It will save them editing time.

And when the match between the two Sin Caras takes place, have neither of them change their outfit, thus thoroughly subverting the "Color Coded For Your Convenience" trope.

Maybe both wrestlers can keep the same outfit, but the evil one can have a goatee on his mask.

Calling Orton-Christian one of the most evenly-matched rivalries in WWE history might be the most condescending line WWE has ever fed to its audience. I mean, I guess their matches were always back & forth and close. But why say that when you could just as easily not.

I have a strong belief that Christian and Orton in the cage will end up being a lot better than whatever run of the mill title feuds they put in Hells in a Cell for no good reason next month. The awesome by god Orton/Dolph was actually the match of the week though if I may say so.

I do like how faced with the decision of elevating Morrison, Kofi, or Bourne as the #3 face on Raw in the absence of Mysterio, they chose ... Randy Orton. (In fairness they do seem interested in doing something with Air Boom* for the moment.) But John Cena looked like a proper cunt with that smirk he did when he FU'd Barrett, like he was gum he was scraping off his shoes. Raw-SD SuperShows -> it's now twice a week where Cena and Orton win matches to prove the heretofore unknown point that they are good.

* apparently there was some WWE.com dealio with team names and that won?? over the Altitude Era? over the Legion of Boom? over the Kingston Duo? over Flight Club? over Kofi & Cream? over NOT BOURNE IN JAMAICA?

Put me with the guys saying the Punk thing is a long way away from not just July but the beginning of August. They got no idea what's going on because since 7/17 they've been making everything up as they went along. But I think they feel that it doesn't need to make consistent sense because it's SO REAL. At least Punk didn't vomit again, a harrowing "I am become Cena" moment. And at least Punk is in the top spot club, which to me is the most important thing out of all of this even if all he does in that spot is participate in typical WWE fare and no new wrestling renaissance has been ushered in.

Punk beats Hunter when Nash 'sticks' ... Hunter! Shocking twist.

Stop beating D.Bryan clean you dickholes.

Originally I wanted Sin Cara to come back in the white/gold but now I'm rooting for Hunico to change to a red/black or indiigo/black scheme and start calling himself Sin Corozon.

Aw, you mean "The Altitude Era" was one of the choices for Kofi and Bourne's team? I take it back; I like that name better than Air Boom. "Flight Club", too.

CRZ should allow thumbs up and thumbs down on forum posts for the sole purpose of me liking this post!

Air Boom is actually a good name, but I really hated how Michael Cole announced it. Like someone said, he does parts of his routine in that I'm a play-by-play shill when seconds before he was the dick heel. Difficult to digest.
