TONIGHT! It's the return of Christian to SmackDown! You can bet he'll be going after Alberto Del Rio. Meanwhile, the build continues for Edge/Alberto Del Rio at Wrestlemania. SmackDown is NOW!

WWE - The Champ Is Here!

Opening credits - Do You Know Your Enemy? Opening pyro! We are taped from Houston, TX! Tonight, Triple H will have a response for The Undertaker.

Edge joins us to open the show. Your hosts are Josh Matthews, Michael Cole, and hometown boy Booker T. We take a look at last week's contract signing and the subsequent breakdown into chaos. Edge has the mic and it's promo time!

"23 days, Alberto. In 23 days, we'll face off against each other for the World Heavyweight Championship...at Wrestlemania XXVII. And...you think busting my nose, if you think a little blood is going to stop me...DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM? DO YOU KNOW WHAT I HAVE BEEN THROUGH TO GET HERE? You see, here's the thing, I'm not worried about a match tonight. Tonight...tonight, I want a fight. And Alberto, here's the thing, I'm not giving you an option, I'm not giving you a choice. If you don't come out here right now, right now, I'll find you. I don't care where it is. I don't care if it's a parking lot, I don't care if it's a hotel room, I don't care if it's at a bingo hall, I will find you. You understand, Alberto? Do..."

Interruption comes from Alberto Del Rio. He comes from the ramp, because...

1. JBL doesn't take kindly to gimmick infringement, since he came back a few days ago.
2. Brodus Clay probably doesn't fit in one of those cars.

Anyway, Alberto's joined by Brodus Clay and ADR has a response.

ADR: Who you think you...who you think you are calling me out? Do you know who I am, gringo asqueroso?

Edge: Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah, I know who you are. Yeah. You're the Ricky Martin trying to reform Menudo with King Hippo, there. But here's the thing, you know what else? I also know that you're a cocky, egotistical, arrogant coward.

ADR: Nononononono, cobarde! I am the man...who sent you home every single week in pain! I am Alberto Del Rio! And this is Brodus Clay! I am the man who's going to replace your legacy...with my destiny!

ADR and Clay enter the ring. We get the ADR/Edge face-off, but it's noticeably two-on-one.

ADR: And right there, in Wrestlemania, I will be the new World Heavyweight Champion.

Edge: I don't think so!

Edge bops Del Rio with the mic to take him down, which allows him to hammer away on Clay. He knocks Del Rio down again, but Clay clobbers him. Del Rio goes to the mounted towel punches. Clay chucks Edge into the steel post, as Christian's music hits. Christian runs down and stuns Clay with an uppercut. He wails on Del Rio, but turns around into the Bill Bull Charge from Clay. Del Rio chokes away on Edge, as Brodus Clay dusts off the old Heart Punch to take down Christian.

Teddy Long's music hits to bring out the GM. Long goes into Tony Schiavone hype mode and makes the match between Alberto Del Rio and Brodus Clay facing Edge & Christian, teaming up for the first time in ten years.

We go back to your hosts Josh Matthews, Michael Cole, and Booker T. Cole says he's got the Interview of the Year lined up, because later tonight, he'll interview John Cena. Oh, blow me! Am I seriously going to have to put up with THAT nonsense?

Ad break

KANE v. WADE BARRETT
We take a look at what happened last week, as Kane turned face again, I guess. Again, announcers touch on the relationship between Kane and the ex-Nexus guys WITHOUT mentioning Undertaker. Barrett's got a mic in hand, so he's got something to say.

"Hey Kane, you made a couple of monumental mistakes of late. The first mistake you made was that you didn't appreciate what The Corre has done for you. And your second mistake was that you had the audacity to put your hands on Justin Gabriel last week. Kane, listen here, let's face it. You're nothing but a...great big chemical experiment mistake."

Really? We're going with "great big chemical experiment mistake" as the big insult?

Barrett starts the match by hammering away on Kane. Kane comes back with a big uppercut and an onslaught in the corner. Corner clothesline hits. Barrett's head meets the turnbuckle, but here come The Corre guys and that's it at about the 45 second mark.

WINNER BY DQ: Kane - Angle advancement, drive through, please.

Kane fares well, but Ezekiel Jackson takes him down easily. Big Show comes down with a chair to chase off the Corre guys. We abruptly go to our next...

Ad break - Snooki hosts Raw, because God hates me.

KANE & THE BIG SHOW v. WADE BARRETT & "THE ONE MAN ROCK BAND" HEATH SLATER
So now we have a tag match. We come back with Show dismantling Slater. Slater tags Barrett, who doesn't fare much better. Here's a big corner chop. And another one. Corner clothesline hits. Show wants the chokeslam, but Barrett floats over and clips the knee. Big boot hits. Another one takes Show down. Barrett goes to the mounted punches and tags out. Slater hammers away, but his cover gets 1. Time to hit the chinlock. Show powers out of it and drops Slater. Tag is made to Kane, who comes in with his top-rope clothesline. Corner clothesline and sidewalk slam hit. Kane takes out Barrett and hits Slater with a big boot. Kane wants the chokeslam, but the Corre guys are back again and that's it.

WINNERS BY DQ: Kane & The Big Show - What the hell was the point of having literally the exact same ending twice?

Post-match, it's a four-on-one beatdown. Show comes back with the chair and whacks Jackson. He nicely hands the chair to Barrett before wiping him out with the BIG SHOW-NINATOR! Slater and Gabriel escape unscathed, as Show hits Kane with the chair, just for fun.

Backstage, Rey Mysterio straps on his mask. He's up next!

Ad break - Wrestlemania promo

Later tonight, Michael Cole interviews John Cena, because God hates me. Your hosts are Matthews, Cole, and Booker, who take it to last Monday. Again, we see the ENTIRE Austin segment, because nobody watches Raw, I guess. Cole guarantees victory, in spite of this setback.

Later tonight, Edge & Christian reunite to face Alberto Del Rio and Brodus Clay.

Backstage, "Dashing" Cody Rhodes is walking to the ring. His match is next. Ok, so we're NOT seeing Rey for a while, I guess.

Ad break

CODY RHODES v. JTG
Cody Rhodes is NOT introduced as "Dashing", as he is DASHING, NO MORE! Cody comes to the ring in a full suit, as he does the whole Phantom of the Opera "don't look at me" bit. He really does need that white mask and I will continue to hammer that point home! We see the footage of the Rhodes family setting up Rey Mysterio.

JTG gets no entrance, because he's cannon fodder. If you can believe it, JTG gets EVEN LESS offense here than he did against Jack Swagger last week. Cross Rhodes puts JTG out of his misery quickly.

WINNER: Cody Rhodes - Remember when JTG had potential to be something other than a jobber? Yeah, me neither.

We go back to Shawn Michaels segment from Raw in its entirety, just to annoy me.

Later tonight, Triple H responds to The Undertaker. Next, Michael Cole enters the ring to interview John Cena.

Ad break

Michael Cole introduces John Cena for his interview. I'm honestly expecting to brush this off, especially as we see The Miz's attack from last Monday (again, in its entirety), but then Cena has to go and cut a serious promo and get my attention.

"If I heard you correctly, this is supposed to be Interview of the Year, and if it is, do us a favor. Turn around and crawl back into that hole you puked out of. Miz, congratulations...you got one by me. I'll admit it. I've had all of my time and focus that actually physically doesn't exist. But Miz just made the biggest mistake of his career. You see, I, like all of you, have been so caught up in this war of words that's had everybody on the edge of their seat and all The Miz really needed to do, keep himself under the radar, stay forgotten about, cruise into Wrestlemania and maybe, just maybe, have a chance at winning. I'm here tonight to tell everybody that I'm done with wasting my time on BS. Miz wants to be must-see? Miz wants to make a statement? The Miz is the new face of the WWE? Then my focus has shifted to one new goal and that goal is BREAKING THE FACE OF THE WWE!"

Cena hands the mic back to Cole and tries to leave, but Cole won't leave well enough alone. Cole antagonizes Cena and tells him he's scared. Cena won't take the bait, so Cole keeps poking him. Cena's about to take out Cole, so Jack Swagger comes out for the save. Cole directs traffic into the mic. Swagger wants the anklelock, but Cena pushes him off. Cena wants the Attitude Adjustment on Cole, but Swagger saves. So Cena gives HIM the AA instead. Play Cena's music.

Ad break - The Chaperone promo

We come back with the Sin Cara vignette. Sin Cara is coming soon.

LAYLA (w/MICHELLE McCOOL) v. KAITLYN
So Husky, McGillicutty, Riley, and Otunga are getting sent on the fast track back to FCW, but Kaitlyn's still here? That's...great.

Layla wins in 90 seconds with the Lay Out for anyone who cares.

WINNER: Layla - I am rapidly losing patience with this show.

Post-match, the beatdown is on. LayCool pose victorious.

Coming up next, Rey Mysterio RETURNS...after TWO WHOLE WEEKS!

Ad break

REY MYSTERIO v. DREW McINTYRE
McIntyre starts things off with a big boot. He shifts into the mounted punches before getting pulled off. McIntyre hits the tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for 2. Rey comes back with kicks, but McIntyre asserts the power advantage. Rey comes back and sets McIntyre up for the 619, but McIntyre ducks out. Rey hits a drop toehold onto the apron! YEOWCH! Rey climbs to the apron, but gets shoved back-first into the steel post. McIntyre picks up Rey and hits a FALLING SIDEWALK SLAM ONTO THE APRON! NICE! McIntyre turns to the announcers, "I'm gonna be at Wrestlemania if I have to cripple everybody!" You tell 'em, Drew! That takes us to our next ad break.

We come back with McIntyre applying the SURFBOARD, just to REALLY get on my good side! Rey snaps out of it and lands on McIntyre for a two count. McIntyre whips Rey into the corner with authority! The Chaperone cover gets 2! McIntyre places Rey on the top turnbuckle. He wants the top-rope butterfly suplex, but Rey headbutts him down. Rey hits the top-rope seated senton, but his routine is his own worst enemy, as McIntyre ducks the springboard crossbody. McIntyre leaps over with the schoolboy for two. McIntyre wants a corner charge, but hits the steel post. Rey hits a kick in the face and hits the 619! Top-rope splash finishes for Rey.

WINNER: Rey Mysterio - Go figure that last year, when McIntyre couldn't wrestle worth a damn, he enters Wrestlemania as the MitB favorite. And now that he's improved 1000%, McIntyre's not even booked. Life isn't fair.

Post-match, Cody Rhodes walks out with a mic in hand. "I'm still waiting for my answer, Rey."

Rey picks up the mic for his response. "What's the matter, Cody? Your daddy ain't here? Your daddy ain't here to help you conspire against me? Huh? Let me tell you something. I wore this mask with pride before you attacked me from behind and took it off my face. I wear this mask with pride right now! And I'm gonna wear this mask with pride when I beat you down at Wrestlemania!" Play Rey's music.

Coming up next, Triple H responds to The Undertaker.

Ad break

The WWE Smack of the Night brought to you by PSP - Undertaker's promo from last Monday, where UT announces the UT/HHH as No-Holds-Barred.

The sounds of Motorhead bring out Triple H, because, as is usually the case on this show these days, we haven't had enough talking. It's promo time! "Monday night, The Undertaker was gracious enough to remind me of what he's capable of in the ring. Let me show you, Dead Man, what *I* do."

That leads us into a Triple H video package. Many of H's greatest hits are highlighted, as it ends with "If I can't end the streak, then I'll die trying."

"For the last two years, at Wrestlemania, I have seen the two greatest matches I have ever seen in my entire life: Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker. Unfortunately for Shawn, he lost both of those attempts at ending The Streak and, for the life of me, I...couldn't figure out why. You know, here's Shawn Michaels, the greatest performer, possibly of all-time, and he couldn't get the job done. Why? Shawn answered that question for me Monday night when he was talking about me. It's emotion. You see, Shawn has always had a problem separating emotion from his matches. You know, in his own words, he said he was overwhelmed with the emotion of standing in front of the MOUNTAIN of the legacy that is The Undertaker. That emotion became his Achilles heel. Shawn went to the ring, not to win, just not to lose. There's a huge difference. Now according to Shawn, I'm not gonna have that problem, because I have a dark side. I have a sadistic side. A side that makes me, as Shawn said, downright mean, vicious, brutal. A dark side that allows me to do unthinkable things to anyone at any time without regret, without remorse, without emotion. That sounds like a horrible person. The fact is, it's true. I will stand in this ring on the grandest stage of them all, in the biggest match of my entire life, and I will look across this ring into the eyes of the greatest legend that there has ever been and ever will be in this business. And mark my words...I will do what no man has ever done before. At Wrestlemania, I WILL beat The Undertaker. Because I will have no emotion, I will not care about the mountain of legacy that stands before, I will not FLINCH, I will not BLINK, I will not hesitate for one second, and I will not become unglued by things that go bump in the night! Undertaker, YOU...YOU made this match No Holds Barred! Thank you!" Triple H's music hits to end an intense promo.

Backstage, the demoted Matt Striker talks to Christian about tonight's match. Christian talks about the things that have happened since we last saw Edge & Christian. Edge comes into the picture to get his partner. The main event is next!

Ad break - Raw promo

Ricardo Rodriguez introduces us to Brodus Clay, who's already in the ring, before introducing Alberto Del Rio. This week, Alberto Del Rio joins us in a F430 Ferrari convertible. He bathes in Christian's pyro with INTENSITY!

ALBERTO DEL RIO & BRODUS CLAY v. CHRISTIAN & "THE RATED R SUPERSTAR" EDGE
If the E was REALLY serious about pushing the idea of the ten-year reunion, we should have gotten the classic "You Think You Know Me" theme to bring out Edge and Christian.

Match starts with Christian and Clay. Christian uses his quickness to dodge Clay, as Matthews brings up Clay's former tenure as Snoop Dogg's bodyguard. Christian wants the Tornado DDT, but Del Rio distracts him and Clay's able to hit the fallaway slam. Christian falls out of the ring, so Del Rio chucks him into the barricade. Edge chases Del Rio, who jumps the barricade and nearly leaves the scene. Back in the ring, Clay hits a big, fat elbow for a one count. Clay hits a big bodyslam and tags out. Del Rio hits a soccer kick for two and goes to the mounted punches. ADR hits the armbar on the bad arm. Del Rio pounds Christian on the mat and covers for two. ADR removes the arm bandage and chucks it at Edge. Del Rio places Christian on the top turnbuckle, but Christian pushes him off and hits with the flying spinning elbow. Tags are made on both sides, but Edge makes the mistake of attempting the crossbody, as Clay's a really, really fat guy! Clay hits a powerslam for two. Clay goes the corner avalanche, but Edge hits a drop toehold onto the turnbuckle. Edge quickly knocks Del Rio off the apron before making the Spear Face. He tries for the spear, but Clay simply knocks him down like a gnat. Clay sets Edge up for the Umaga buttsplash, except Clay moves much S...L...O...W...E...R, so Edge is able to move. Del Rio comes back in and clocks Edge, so Christian comes back for ADR. Del Rio charges at Christian and gets backdropped over the top rope. Clay charges in right after and eats a boot to the face. Tornado DDT hits and Edge finishes with the Savage Elbow at about 13 minutes.

WINNERS: Edge & Christian - A good main event. Clay's not great, but he's not terrible, either. He's got potential.

Post-match, Ricardo Rodriguez picks up Alberto Del Rio. Edge and Christian stand triumphant to end the show.

FINAL THOUGHT

The main event and the Rey/McIntyre match nearly saved this one, but I don't feel like I'm getting much out of this show. Two quick DQ's to start the show and two squashes were enough to annoy me, but they really, REALLY need to stop showing these Raw segments in their entirety! If I want to see the entire Raw segment, I'll jump on WWE.com.

Until next week.

Totally! They missed an opportunity there. Bring back the entrance music, the TitanTron showing them doing bizarre and silly things, and the five-second pose for the benefit of those with flash photography! Otherwise Edge & Christian might just as well have been slapped together by the Random Tag-Team Generator.

I also feel that they're missing the boat on McIntyre, especially since it seems they're not going to have a Money in the Bank match this year (otherwise, surely we'd be having qualifying matches by now).

Did they just write Kaitlyn out with an injury angle? That after-match skirmish seemed as built up and important as Del Rio slamming somebody into the post with a chair around their arm.

If Christian can take the belt off ADR before WM, Drew can challenge for it at the big PPV. I see ADR losing it to someone thanks to Edge interference to add heat to their match.

ADR isn't the IC champ. It's still Kofi; their match at EC was non-title.

And what on earth was Booker T's reaction when she came out? He quacked like a duck or something?

Where *was* Kofi last night anyway?

I loved the comically gigantic Michael Cole head looming over Cena in the INTERVIEW OF THE YEAR graphic.

Rey's outfit was absolutely gimptastic last night. I think it's a clue to his WrestleMania costume. Next week, I expect him to be dressed as a construction worker, followed by a soldier and a cowboy, leading up to his WrestleMania entrance as Tatanka!

I really hope they give Rey & Cody a minimum of 10 minutes, preferably 15 at 'Mania and that Cody is able to hold up his end of the bargain because I can see a strong showing at the biggest event of the year catapulting him to the next level. Even if he loses (which I don't think is a foregone conclusion, if Rey chose Cody as his opponent, it stands to reason that he might want to lose to him as well) all it would take is a good performance at WrestleMania, followed by destroying someone (Kofi?) the following week to keep his momentum running.

With all of the complaining about the lack of the vintage E&C entrance, everyone should at least take solace in the fact that Christian was given his own entrance. Based on the company's treatment of him in the past, I wouldn't have been at all surprised to see him walk out behind Edge, to Edge's music.

I'm so confused [/Barbarino].

I also liked Rey's duds, and Drew's apron sideslam.

That reminds me: when ADR beat the crap out of Kofi on the Raw after the EC, *that* also felt like a writing out of Kofi. Except then Kofi lost to Swagger on the next Smackdown (to have Swagger strong to be announced as Cole's trainer), so I also have no idea where Kofi is. Part of me thinks that the writers think the ADR beatdown *was* the write-out, and that they don't remember the Swagger match.

This is a shot in the dark, but during the commercial break in the middle of the Rey-Drew match, there was a weird-looking commercial whose ending was cut out when they returned to the Smackdown broadcast ...

They showed a phone ringing, then the announcer saying "Maybe it's a wrong number", followed by a radio turning itself on (with the announcer saying "Maybe it's interference"), then they started to show a dog barking at something behind the front door ... and that's when they suddenly cut back to the match.

Now I'm curious ... does anyone have any idea what this commercial was for (new SyFy show? Possible introductory vignette for an new wrestler?)
