Bye, Freddie.

Kurt Angle to "Clocks".

...and a Fashion Report, too! Hey, does anyone actually read this? If not, I could save a lot of time and just give up. Tell me what YOU think.

Sssssmackdown, from Anaheim.

Piper, in black leather jacket, "Piper's Pit!" tshirt and kilt, with Sean, in long black leather jacket with silver flamin' cuffs, start-off with Piper's Pit. Vince, in grey suit with white shirt (top two buttons undone) comes out, and intros Zack. Zack, in white sleeveless "Mr. America" tshirt and black warmups, with cane, and Mr America, in HIS tshirt, white/red-striped blue tights and star-forehead blue mask, are out. Vince books an armwrestling match between himself and Zack for next week. If Zack wins, he gets a contract. Then the heels trip the handicapped kid and run off.

Kurt ANgle Classic - he's got a milk truck!

Taker, in black bandana, black "Big Evil Pain Syncicate/Let the Beatings Begin" diablo skull tshirt (thanks, Tazz) with a black singlet thereunder, and black leather pants, vs. Chuch, in red "FBI" briefs, with Nunzio and Jonny. An okay match. Post-match, FBI beats down Taker, but he recovers and fights 'em off.

Rey's wife and kids (sorry gals) are in the crowd.

Tazz, in black pinstripes and black shirt (no tie) with orange hanky, and Cole, in white shirt (no tie) are our hosts. A "Classy" film package. Sorry, I have something in my eye (no, seriously, it was a tear).

Eddie, in green "Latino" tights and Tajiri, in black pants with white dragons, both wearig the belts, with a car, vs. The Bashams, both in black leather pants. Remember, Doug has the longer stubble. The Bashams are NOT Team Angle, but it's still an okay match.

Kurt Angle Classic - in the Room of Fun, he plays the guitar (but Austin/Debra/Vince are not pleased).

Kurt, in red warmups, with gold medals and pyro, gets cheered. He revels in the "You Suck" chants, and poses at the corners. And he likes the "What"s, too. He's happy, and I don't remember the last time I heard an "Angle" chant. BigShow, in one-strap black singlet (Dean loves his music) interrupts, saying he doesn't respect Kurt, and then getting all in-his-face and threatening him. Kurt's breath strips are laugh-out-loud funny. Kurt climbs the ropes so he can talk down to Show. Brocky, in black "Unleashed F5 Fury" tshirt, wearing the belt, dances out to stop Show from chokeslamming Kurt, then Show walks off, like the heel he is. Brock and Kurt share tension, respect, teased friendship, and a handshake. I'll say Kurt is a tenuous face.

Cena, in "Irish" #23 jersey, with lock and chain, raps-out Cruiserweights, wankers, and Benoit. vs. Beniot, in red "Wolverine" tights. Rhyno, in black "Rhyno" singlet, tries to make the save, but inadvertantly hits Benoit. Short match, okay.

God no, Rick was right - The Mullets!

Torrieberg, in pink bikini top, fullcuts, legwraps and garters, and Rikishi, in black manskirt with red star and yellow dragon, "Rikishi" belt and "WWE the People" black tshirt (Hey, wear briefs and sell the ad space!) vs. Noble, in cutoff jeans with Brooklyn-Brawler-esque back pocket, and Nidia, in pink floral top and Daisy Dukes. FYI, Nidia is wearing RED panties (we empathise, girl). Okay match - where was MatureLady?

Rey talks to LittleBoyJosh, jumping and talking about his groin. Eddie, in a Rey shirt, pumps him up and speaks Spanish (Rey, join the LWO!).

Steph, in black v-neck sweater and white skirt, confronts Vince in the back. To say the tension is palpable is an understatement, 'cuz Vince threatens to fire her. And he introduces her NEW assistant, MatureLady. MatureLady, in black dress, twirls her hair while Steph, outraged, tells Vince this is a BAD IDEA. MatureLady checks-out Steph. I do NOT like where this could be going. Steph is Steph. Sable is Sable. Sable is not Steph; Steph is Steph, Sable is Sable. Steph is hot, Sable is cold.

Mattitude, in black "V1" tshirt and red pants with black pockets and gold pattern, carrying the belt, with Shannon and Crash, vs. Rey, in white "Rey 619" wifebeater and green/red mask and trunks, with gold "619" medallion. Hebner runs-down the rules before the match, shows-off the belt, and we're underway. Two minutes in, Hebner sends the MFers to the back, and then AdBreak interferes. After the break, Mattitude works the groin and effectively turns Rey's left leg into dead weight. Matt distracts the ref while the MFers run in and do some damage. Legdrop off the top rope, but Rey KICKS OUT! Into a roll-up and we have a new champ. 14 minutes of a good match. Rey's son celebrates with him in the ring while his wife cries with joy. (The only downside was that, going last, I knew it would have to end by 9pm)

Overall: A good show. The action was all average or better (especially the ME, which had me oohing and aahing). The talking all made sense. And Kurt Angle was there, for cryin' out loud! The only downside was the Steph/Sable pairing. Eeeew.

Edit: Does anybody know what song they used for the "Classy" film?
ALso, I'm surprised the returning The Great Thomas didn't beat me to posting.

Kudos to whoever put together the excellent Freddie Blassie video. I've never seen the guy perform, outside of a managerial role. But, as I was watching that video, I came about as close to shedding a tear as someone can get. Seriously. That was a VERY touching tribute.

Vince McMahon's big changes to fix Smackdown was Matt Hardy main-eventing!!!! I agree with Vince! I can't remember the last time, if ever, the WWE has made such a big deal about a cruiserweight match. Rey's groin injury was blessing in disguise as it allowed the WWE to make a the match more important and it gave Matt and Rey some established psychology to work with. It's time to start grooming Matt for the eventual big main-event push, he's got the potential, they've just gotta put the work into it.

I think the writers(or maybe Vince) have realized that they were over-exposing the Mr. America angle the past few weeks and have toned it down a bit. One segment a show that doesn't take up the main-event is a much better idea than basing the entire show around an angle between two non-wrestlers. The arm-wrestling match will be pure crap, but hopefully it won't take long. I just know they're going to job Jaime Noble to Zach Gowen, though. And it makes me cry.

The Basham brothers looked pretty good, although it was basically an athletic squash. But Tajiri/Guerrero needed a squash, so that's good. I thought Danny-ja looked just a slight bit better than Doug. It'll be interesting to see where they're going with them and the tag division in general.

Kurt is back. Kurt is awesome. Brock is awesome. Big Show is not awesome. Why do I fear that Big Show might just win next week? I mean it's not very likely, but it's possible.

It's okay Chris. You'll be in the main-event soon. At least you'd better be. Decent match, but they gave them no time to do anything with it.

I'm sure that there is some fetish video out there based on what Rikishi did to Nidia.

The whole Sable segment proved to me that Sable's signing was only done so that Vince could get his revenge on Sable. It was just really surreal seeing them objectify her while she was sitting right there. Hooray for BIG TITTY THEATRE!

Decent show, but lacking the big blowaway match of the last two weeks.

OMEGA, another reason I love wrestling. We got tugged along down memory lane with the a very amazing video tribute which made me feel like I'd lost my best friend and the an emotional Kurt Angle return. RIP Freddie, and welcome back Kurt.

How do I know?! Because Micheal Cole and Tazz shamelessly plug it right after the commercial following the beautiful video.(Like I just did.)
AND YES, That was a beautiful video. The best I seen since Owen Hart's. I cried too, awesome, just awesome.

I was just on amazon.com listening to tracks on that disc based on Tazz and Cole's hype of it after the Blassie piece and DO intend to buy it first thing tomorrow. I noticed another track on the disc was also used recently for something in WWE, but can't remember what it was used for (PPV theme, I think.)

Keep it. It's your schtick. It's mindless fun.

I found tonight's show refreshing. Lots of good stuff. The cruiserweight match, the toned-down Mr. America segment (although the girls were disappointed that O'Hare never took his jacket off), Guerrerro and Tajiri, Angle's return...

The Angle return was awesome. His dropping to the mat and basking in the "You Suck" chants was great. Too bad Big Show had to suck the life out of this segment.

I liked the Blassie piece, but found myself wanting more. They should make the entire "Confidential" on Saturday about Blassie. Yeah.

Missed comedy spot of the night...Eddie admitting to Rey that he stole the Rey shirt from the merchandise stand.

Missed comedy spot number two: Wouldn't it have been great if Rey's entire family wore masks and colored contacts?

Excellent show.

Ditto. Not necessarily because it's bad but it's just that I already watched the show so I know what happened and what they wore. And even if I didn't see the show I don't care what they wore. I come to these boards to hear people's opinions not to just get a recap of what happened. Just my two cents.

That would be "Bring Me To Life"... as also heard in Daredevil. I forget which PPV used it, though. Either No Way Out or Backlash. Probably not WM19.

Are Edjiri going to have a new car every week? That Cadillac was pretty sweet...

Good to have Angle back. I think the problem with his initial babyface run was that he just wasn't as funny as he was when he was a heel. He went from clueless and naive to American badass in a matter of days. Hopefully they will get it right this time.

IMO, keep up the report. It helps me because I can come to one board, get a recap if I miss the show are part of it and opinions at the same time. I enjoy it actually. So I vote to continue it.

I liked this show alot. For some sick reason, I want to see where this Sable/Steph thing is going. I know some HLA will be teased, I just want to see how sick Vince is and how far he let's his daughter be used in this angle.

I absolutely read it & like it. The style is nice & light, you hit all the highlights, & provide your own take on the show subtly. It's also a nice amount of summary recap to refer to after the fact.

Am I missing something?

Let me see if I have this straight...Zach Gowen desperately wants to become a WWE wrestler. Vince offers him a contract--if he can beat Vince in an arm-wrestling match. And therefore, Vince is...a heel?

Excuse me? If a one-legged guy can't beat a non-wrestler in an arm wrestling contest, how the hell is he going to have wrestling matches against actual wrestlers and not, you know, die or something?

Stupid stuff. If it were me, I would never have had them say that Zach wanted to be a wrestler or that he was training. Have Vince tell him that if he wants to continue to accompany Ho--er, Mr. America to the ring, he needs to sign a WWE contract for legal purposes. Then, once he does sign the contract, Vince orders him to compete. He sets Zach up against some guy who's much bigger than him, but isn't anyone important--Johnny Stamboli or someone. They're both in the ring, Zach looks scared out of his mind, and the bell is about to ring--but Vince, or maybe Piper or O'Haire or some other heel, says that since Zach is new to the WWE, he may not know all the rules, but wrestlers aren't allowed to have foreign objects in the ring, so he's going to have to take off his leg. Now that makes a heel look like a HEEL. And, then, of course, when Zach starts busting out moonsaults and shit and actually wins the match, it's a major, major mark-out moment.

Am I wrong?

Bring Me To Life was the No Way Out song. The band and entire album rock.

Peter, that is a great idea for an angle.
But remember, Vince is a heel anyways. He doesn't need to be more heelish than he already is. Ofcourse the fact that Vince has arms the size of Zack's torso doesn't matter either as we all should assume he has no chance in hell (heh!) to beat Vince.

Still..when Zack gets inside the ring for a match it just might be against Vince (or O'Haire?) and he WILL bust out all those moves..and since until then we didn't know he could do that we still act surprised.

ScreamingHeadGuy, keep up the reports. Sometimes they annoy the shit outta me, because all the nicks and clothing distract me and I cannot focus. Other times (like tonight) it gives me a nice recap of what happened and what to expect when I get to see it. It's your thing and with that no different than Dean's workrate report.

Sounds like a cool Smackdown btw..Looking forward to seeing it.

And what about when Vince simply pushed Zach over Pipers back. Zach layed there on the mat like he was just shot.......lol. They should of had Zach jumping right back up really pissed off as the heels scattered.

I don't mean to be a dick about this, but I don't like the Fashion Report. There's a columns section for that. The same goes to everyone else who posts a column in the Raw or SD! topic of the week.

I only watched the show flittingly tonight. I was stalking a Tom Waits video on E-Bay and I got my priorities.

All of Kurt was great. I really didn't like the idea of Kurt as a babyface until I saw his promo. I don't remember much of his other stint on that side of the fence. It got all wrapped up in 9/11. This I like though. I hope they keep Kurt and Brock together all the way up to Royal Rumble. Kurt's neck's shakey so having him team with Lesnar keeps the two of them together and lightens his load.

I was underwhelmed by Rey / Hardy. (And I also thought it would have been cool to have Rey's whole family in masks! They should have also had aunts, cousins and the Villanos.) I watch my tape of the last Nitro a lot more. More than any of the few tapes I have. I just can't get into WWE's castrated cruiser weight style. Or maybe it was just the GROIN injury. Because Rey was wrestling with an injured LEFT GROIN. It's hard to run and fly and such with an INJURED GROIN. Yeesh. I like groins as much as the next guy but that shit gets annoying.

SHG, I am a total mark for your column and like it right here. I don't usually read the columns forum, since you, The Great Thomas and DEAN post here. So, yeah, I read 'em and vote to continue. If you wish to enhance your reprt for me on the fashion side, I would hope for a fan fashion report of the week. Because the fans wear clothes too.

Thanks...

Vince's promo was good till the end.

I liked the Blassie tribute as well, I could've done without the inclusion of Steph and Shane in the video, though.

Milk-O-Mania is probably one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Ditto for Austin and Angle singing.

Of course, Kurt Angle's return was awesome. Angle rules so much. I guess he'll be face for a while. The bit with him and Show was hilarious. Also the return of the Brockism: "It's on."
Very good segment.

I was shocked when they mentioned the lawsuit. Also, this was Steph's best promo in a long time, too. This Steph-Sable storyline could be good.

Mysterio-Hardy was very good. Tazz and Cole did a nice job calling the match. They even mentioned The Great Sasuke and Dean Malenko. More proof that they are the best announcing team today.

Overall, this was the best Smackdown in a long time.

Man, those damn Phillies took out Smackdown last night. Sucks too, because I got weeks of middling shows, then there's one that sounds like a winner, and their dumb baseball preempts it! That's okay though. Thanks to the magic of recaps, I know what happened. Still tentative to Sable/Steph. Will it be among the Hokuto/Kong classics? Hell no. Matt Hardy in the main event AND the return of King Kurt more than make up for that. Considering the endings of the shows, Smackdown wins this week, hands down.
