How incredible was that opening segment? I was jumping in my seat begging Rey to throw a punch or a kick to the jimmy or something. Punk is awesome. The match at Mania just became my Most Anticipated. I wanna see Serena try to interfere in the match, only to be stopped by a tackle by Aalyah.

Sadly, I’m not a regular viewer of Smackdown...does Tony Chimel always introduce Miz as “DA Miz?” That was fantastic.

BOOOOOO on adding more people to MitB. Seriously?

Another bold prediction: Fed up with the preferred treatment Drew McIntyre received to basically get a free ride into MitB, Teddy Long is going to make Drew’s IC title a second prize in MitB (the same way Teddy made the title a second prize for the qualifying match). That should get Vince’s attention and maybe help Teddy get off probation.

The way Jericho kept harping on Edge’s time on the disabled list, I was starting to worry about how bad it was to make Edge look so fragile. At least Edge saved face by noting his high-risk badass WM spots. Is it better to always be at Wrestle Mania but lose, or not be there at all?

CM Punk is the man. I was worried that involving Rey's kids would make this angle a bit too cheesy, but boy, did Punk ever drive that promo home. Good work from Rey too in acting upset but still not wanting to endanger his family by starting a brawl.

I don't mind the extra man since it drives home the point that it's Vince's favoritism at work. I could even see a 10th man get in if Austin decides to screw with Vince by putting someone else in to take out his golden boy. That's a great idea for the IC belt, and it would be a great way for another wrestler to get a push from the match.

Be there and lose. Just look at Shawn Michaels -- "Mr. Wrestlemania" has a 6-9 record at WM in his life and might become the first man to accrue 10 WM losses if he loses again this year. You could make the argument that all of Shawn's best four Mania matches are losses: the ladder match, the triple threat, the Angle match, the Undertaker match.

Oh, man. That would be one of my biggest mark-out moments ever!

And I'll tell you what...they've hired a number of grown-up divas (and probably some male wrestlers, too) who can't sell an angle the way that kid can. Her acting was really good, and did you notice the way she grabbed her daddy's hand from behind him? Nice touch. (Probably not her idea, but the timing and all were right, anyway.)

The facial expressions and changes on Rey Mysterio's daughter face was great. From smiling when her Dad was singing to hiding behind her Dad in what looked like fear when Punk came out. She has a great career in acting if she goes that route.

And Punk really shined also.

Great segment. For those who missed it, it's all over youtube.

Either Aalyah is legitimately terrified of CM Punk, or she's the best actress the WWE has ever employed. I think they should just straight up make her the new GM of Smackdown.

My kids were BEGGING Mysterio to hit Punk. That was one of the best segments I have seen on RAW in a LONG time. I loved the end with Punk singing "Happy Birthday" all slow and creepy. This may have pushed me over the edge on purchasing Wrestlemania. Maybe.

Life is hilariously cruel.

CM Punk is my Savior!

Yeah, I'm going for the sacrilege moment here but to drive home a point. Punk has many things going for him. The Straight Edge Society, his microphone ability, and his current look with the vibe he carried last night. I only made it through the first half hour our so but I absolutely loved that segment too. That was just a wicked sick mentally twisting ride that they pulled off last night. To the point I was getting a queasy stomach.

I am not a fan at all of Drew McIntyre's status of being "undefeated" still; it is like Triple H's "it never happened" speal from yester-year. If Drew wins the MITB match, I hope he loses when he cashes in. I was a fan of Drew but now Vince erasing his 2 losses just makes him considerably less credible in my eyes.

How great is Punk as heel?! Him trying to use Rey's family as a psychological advantage was money....especially him singing happy birthday to Rey's daughter.

Not too much to comment on based on the matches because there was hardly anything, except Undertaker going bezerk on Cryme Tyme and the Hart Dynasty as those 2 have fought each countless times (can they at least give us something new to work with and watch?) Going through with my point, either put them legitmately in the tag title chase or feud with some other tag team because Cryme Tyme facing the Hart Dynasty is like watching a re-run over and over again.

As of right now, the WrestleMania card looks good and worth watching.

The way it's played out with ol' Drew, I kind of expect him to win, try and use it that night, but lose to Edge (who would know how to avoid getting Edge'd). Then he can have another tantrum and there's no case in existence which opens up the MITBPPV.

Drawing out the qualifiers for so long has prevented the usual Mania MITB build of endless 8-man tags. Now I kind of miss them.

Cryme Tyme is probably going to be split up in the draft, I bet. You'd think that would favor Shad since he has the size, but apparently he's got heat which is why JTG gets put in the Rumble and he's doesn't. JTG is a good worker and charismatic but so is Slam Master J so I dunno.

The way Rey's daughter looked as Punk was talking to her you'd think Charles Manson was singing happy birthday to her. With Punk's current look I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard to visualize. Anyone else notice Punk was going with a "See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" reference when addressing each of Rey's family members?

Enough about that awesome segment. Some other stuff happened. Unfortunately the only things that stood out in my mind last night were Tiffany from ECW, being demoted to a "Diva" and the Edge/Jericho segment.

Y'know to go from running your own wrestling show to now having to literally fight for your paycheck Tiffany sure was chipper. Horrible wrestling attire by the way and nice "The Pounce" like shoulder block by Vickie.

I may have missed an episode or two, but when did people start chanting "Spear" for Edge? It felt like the fans were calling for tribal combat or something. I loved Jericho knocking out Edge and pointing back at the audience, using their own word against them.

"Spear" *points* "Spear" *points* "SPEAR!!!"

Smackdown managed to put over the matches, spare their headliners, and not bore me to tears. WTF Raw and Monday Night TNA.

The SmackDown after No Way Out was the first I noticed it. Edge confronted Jericho in the ring in a repeat of sorts of Jericho's victory lap on the previous RAW. He egged on the chant before using the move on Jericho.

Glad you mentioned that, because I wanted to say something. Like (I gather) most fans, I never much liked the "main eventer comes out, breaks up a cruiserweight/tag/lower-card match, squashes everybody" angle. And it's increasingly become a cliche. But it occurred to me as I was watching this that it could really make someone. Run the angle--but the second or third time you do, have someone stand up to the main eventer and get the better of him. Do it right, and you could really elevate that person.

Did no one else notice how Matt Striker say Kane vs Luke Gallows is like Kane vs a pseudo Kane, ironic since Luke Gallows was actually the fake Kane.

A testament to how far Gallows has come, because I remember that original Kane/Fake Kane match being eye-gougingly awful. This match was at least tolerable.

Everything with Rey Mysterio and CM Punk tonight was absolute gold. It just goes to show how strong the WM card is this year, because this match that has so much heat behind it is destined to happen in the first hour, just because there's so much stuff going on this year.

Re: Edge/Jericho. Now that's more like it. Now we can start building up to Jericho having Edge's number a little more. Now that match has a little suspense behind it.

Striker already commented on Jericho having learned how to (possibly) counter the spear. "Jericho is always evolving"

I love how the crowd (chanting spear earlier) was just quiet when Jericho threw it back in their faces.
Edge & Jericho have them right where they want them to be,
despite the flimsy angle (I'm injured, I'm back)

Rey vs Punk should be awesome.
A friend with whom I was watching SD caught on to the see/hear no evil thing right away.
Which was just brilliant. Punk didn't need to do that, but it made his evil insanity even cooler.

Aaliyah looked terrified. Which made me cackle (cos it helped the story so much)

The one thing that is distracting from Punk's evilness is Serena's hotness. Damn!

The one interesting thing about the McIntyre angle/match was that he looked concerned for just a second when he heard about his opponents acolades. Other than that; foregone conclusion of course. Interesting to see where they will go with this.

The Taker interference actually was well done this time. He destroyed four guys with four different moves and made him looks bad-ass.

Both Meltzer and Alvarez wrote this week that Benjamin Mora, one of the lucha promoters in TJ, have TV now, which could theorhetically be picked up over the air in SD. I believe it would have aired this morning. Confirmation or denial by our SD homies?...
