I'll try to make them quick, cause I'm tired from the drive..

From the SBC Center in San Antonio - Smackdown!

Dark match

Matt Capotelli def. Funaki

Velocity

Doug Basham def. Paul London

Nunzio def. Kidman, Rey Mysterio and Akio in a fatal fourway for a shot at the crusierweight title. Nunzio won after a top-rope DDT on either Akio or Kidman, I forgot which.

Billy Gunn and Hardcore Holly def. two jobbers (their names sounded like "Eddie Craven" and "Russell Sexy.")

Smackdown

Prior to the show, Bradshaw cuts an in-house promo, running down Texas for being 50th in the nation for education. He also blasts illegal immigrants and the Spurs.

John "Bradshaw" Layfield opens the show, riding to the ring in the limo. After a few minutes running down Texas and proclaiming his love for New York City, he pulls out a money clip with $1,000. He offers one lucky fan a chance to earn the money.

Bradshaw picks a kid with an Eddie Guerrero shirt on the front row. He offers "Enrique" the money, provided he clean the hood of his limo in under 60 seconds.

Enrique takes the wax and rag and goes to work. He's going good, until about 10 seconds are left, when Bradshaw spills some of the wax over the hood. So, no money.

Bradshaw reminds us that tonight, Kurt Angle will present the Great American trophy and the #1 contender spot for the WWE title. He promises to do something to earn it.

Backstage, Charlie Haas pleads his case to Angle, saying he should be the #1 contender. Big Show disagrees.

Dudleys def. Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty in a non-title match when Scotty was pinned following a 3-D.

Chavo def. Jamie Noble after Chavo reverses a victory roll and holds the ropes.

Teddy Long passes out his card backstage to Spike Dudley, Shannon Moore and Orlando Jordan. Teddy says he wants someone with a great physique and a movie star face. Basically, someone the exact opposite of Spike, he says. Spike takes offese and challenges Teddy to a match.

Booker T and Rob Van Dam discuss life on Smackdown. Booker still hates it, Rob suggests they try to win the tag titles. He tells Booker that he's got his back, just like on RAW.

John Cena def. Danny Basham with an F-U.

Big Show/Charlie Haas def. Booker T/RVD. Booker walks out on RVD, who is pinned by Haas after a chokeslam.

RVD confronts Kurt Angle backstage, who makes a match between Booker and RVD next week.

Renee Dupree def. Orlando Jordan with a modified sitout powerbomb (??). He gives Fifi a quick kiss, afterwards.

Eddie Guerrero admires the Great American trophy in Kurt's office. Annoyed, Kurt gives Eddie the rest of the night off, and tells him to get out of the arena.

Teddy Long comes to the ring in full boxing gear, gloves and headgear. When Spike gets to the ring, Teddy suggests a warmup with Johnny "The Bull" Stamboli

Spike Dudley def. Johnny Stamboli with a Dudley dog.

After the match, Spike is attacked by Mark Jindrak. Teddy jumps into Jindrak's arms and hugs him. Uncomfortably.

The red carpet and a covered trophy are brought to the ring. Angle calls Bradshaw, Cena, Haas, Big Show and Booker to the ring. According to the WWE.com poll, the fans overwhelmingly picked Cena, Angle tells us.

But before he names the winner, Bradshaw cuts him off. He says that he was busy last night, but he wants to show why he deserves the award.

Cut to footage of Bradshaw in a field near the Texas/Mexico border. It's the middle of the night, and Bradshaw is telling the camera how pourous the border has become. He rails on illegal immigrants, calling them drains on the system... free healthcare, welfare, takin money back to Mexico, etc.

Then, we hear a rustling. Bradshaw runs towards the noise and surprises a family of Mexicans. Terrified, they take off.

"You go back to Mexico!" Bradshaw yells. "You tell your Mexican friends and your Mexican families that they better stay in Mexico! Because if they don't, you tell 'em John Bradshaw Layfield will be waiting!"

Cut back to the ring. The live crowd is pretty pissed at this point. Angle awards the Great American trophy to Bradshaw. They pull off the cover of the trophy, only to reveal that it has been replaced with a picture of Eddie and some fuzzy dice.

Eddie comes out in a lowrider with the real trophy bolted to the hood. He takes the trophy from the hood and into the ring. Bradshaw and Angle are on the apron demanding he return the trophy. Sadly, it suffers the fate of all wrestling trophies.

Bradshaw jumps inside the ring, but Eddie fights him off.

Last segment

Booker returns to the ring, calling its a "travesty of justice" that he didn't win the award. He suspects it's because he's from RAW and calls out any Smackdown superstar in the back.

The light go out and Undertaker's music plays. He comes to the ring with Paul Bearer. Booker tries to back down, and starts to leave the ring, but then turns and attacks taker. After some token offense, Taker gets the big boot and the tombstone. Apparently it was a real match, because Hebner counted to three.

Not a bad show, the trophy presentation was fun to watch and the mostly Mexican crowd hated Bradshaw. Eddie was over big, so was Cena. And everyone ate up the Undertaker's appearance.

Pops - Eddie, Cena, Undertaker

Heat - Bradshaw, Booker

Oh man Bradshaw is such a Million Dollar Man knock off. Offering money to a kid to do a job? Plus all the matches look pretty boring and bland. Smackdown really has become unwatchable. Who didnt expect the trophy to get destroyed? To me theres no star power on this show and the stars they have arent used correctly (Eddie, Cena, Taker). Cena is mega over but he still isnt given a good feud to get into. And I bet the Taker segment wont even air. Eddie deserves way better then Bradshaw.

Smackdown needs another big name on the show. The show could really use Hogan back again. Hell even the McMahons add star power and Regal wouldve been great but RAW gets him. And where is Sable and Torrie Wilson. They should be managing someone at least. I think Sable would be good with Bradshaw. Torrie and Sable are both pretty over but get paid to do nothing. And this whole Bradshaw dissing Mexicans racism thing is pissing me off.

I don't know about you, but I think if Bradshaw can be 1/100th the heel DiBiase was, he can get mega-over and make a watchable ME with Eddy. It sounds like the crowd was ready to rip the hell out of him (granted, most of it's cheap heat, but take what you can get) and Bradshaw can only get better and better as he settles into the role.

Well, that's an interesting way to justify giving Bradshaw a trophy voted on by the fans. You simply say they voted for someone else, and then give it to Bradshaw anyway. Is Dusty Rhodes on the booking staff, by any chance?

The show could really use Hogan back again.

No.

Hell even the McMahons add star power

But overshadow everything else, so no.

and Regal wouldve been great but RAW gets him.

He wouldn't add "star power". Plus, he's (presumably) not in wrestling condition.

And where is Sable and Torrie Wilson. They should be managing someone at least. I think Sable would be good with Bradshaw.

They wouldn't improve the show.

Chavo/Knoble should be good, if given some time. The rest looks pretty hit or miss. Spike over Stamboli? Blah. Seing Spike wrestle every week is getting a bit annoying. Why not use Rey in that spot, rather than put him on Velocity? Dudz vs. Rikishi/S2H? Time to channel surf.

And the beginning of a Booker/Taker program? Wow, great way to build up Booker as a top-flight heel on SD to challenge Eddy - have him job to Taker.

Looks like I'm watching Survivor come Thursday night. That, or maybe a trip to Blockbuster.

Then again, maybe it's time to go see Walking Tall.

Until the last two segments, the show seemed like an extended episode of Velocity. Eddie didn't even make an in-ring appearance until the trophy presentation. Neither did Angle. Rey and Cena were on earlier, but Rey was in a Velocity clusterfuck and Cena had a quick squash.

Undertaker provided some needed starpower on the show, but it was a Pyhrric victory, as usual. Because Booker was made to look like shit. If they're gonna have him squash someone, I'm sure one of the FBI was available.

Edge should have stayed on the show. Then you could convincingly make the case that Smackdown is where all the young, up-and-comers play, not just the Raw castoffs.

Oh and Johnny Stamboli must have really pissed someone off. Spike beat him, clean as a sheet.

Chavo and Noble was probably the match of the night. Honestly, the dark match was my second favorite, the Tough Enough kid looked pretty good.

Seeing Billy Gunn and Bob Holly in a Velocity tag team warmed my heart.

I'm a huge FBI mark, and I honestly can't remember Stamboli getting a singles win over anyone since coming to SD. If not, you may have to go back to Heat to find his last one.

Looking at the bright side of this, this could very well create an insta-feud between Cena and Bradshaw for somewhere down the line.

Ok, so maybe it isn't really THAT bright a side, but at least they're planning ahead, right?

It seems like they're pulling the trigger on potential PPV feuds too soon... Eddie/Booker and Booker/RVD are two potentially good upper-card feuds, and in the period of a month they're both there on free TV. As mentioned before, they're not doing enough with the big boys on the roster (Eddie, Cena, Taker), instead focusing on establishing Bradshaw as a ME heel. On the bright side of things, if Bradshaw is now the #1 contender, Eddie's got to defend his belt sometime between now and Judgment Day... so hopefully we won't be subject to a Eddie/Bradshaw main event there.

Only one I can think of is King of the Ring with Edge and Christian. Even then, I might be wrong.

Edge's stomach was smashed by it when Christian went heel, but I think the trophy was no worse for the wear.

All the guys you mentioned - Eddie, Cena, Taker, Booker, RVD - all faces. I realize they are turning Booker, so there's one. But the reason for the Bradshaw push is simply that there are no heels for these guys to work with.

Im still kind of hoping for an RVD heel turn. I don't think he's done it since the ECW days, and SD could use a few more heels. As for Bradshaw, its a total Million Dollar Man ripoff, but I bet the schtick is new to a lot of people, and it worked once, and it will work again.

From Meltzer's update:
"--There is a segment on tonight's Smackdown show that starts like a commercial for a Reality TV show with motocross stunts and the like. Then, at the end, it reads, "I Am Still Alive." It's a video for a new character they are bringing in, or at least appeared to be. "

My first impression was, "Aw fuck, Jeff Hardy's coming back!"

Isn't he into all that dirt bike stuff?

If he's clean and sober and can actually wrestle for more then 30 seconds without royally fucking something up, he'll be a welcome addition but yeah right, it's Jeff Hardy.

Yessir, that would appear to be telegraphing a Jeff return. Fuck. I'm glad that they'll have a secondary face in the Cruiser division, but unless Chavito and Rey Rey can work a miracle and give the guy some serious lessons in ringwork then I'm not getting excited.

I don't know if this was edited later by Dave or if the quote two posts up is just misunderstood, but Meltzer said

There is a segment on tonight's Smackdown show that starts like a commercial for a Reality TV show with motocross stunts and the like. Then, at the end, it reads, "I Am Still Alive." At first people live were assuming it was a video for a new character they are bringing in, but it was actually a promo for a new UPN TV show.

So it's not a new character and likely has nothing to do with Jeff Hardy. It's just a UPN show.
