| #1 Posted on 31.5.02 0009.45 | I'm a little surprised this thread hasn't been started yet. I'm under the impression that Dean's doesn't count cause it's SO LONG. It's like his own report or something. Go DEAN~!
Anyway, this was a nice little show to my own surprise. It started a little slow with the Rico / Rikishi sillyness but picked up soon enough.
- I heard Maven broke his leg in his match with Christian? If so it must have been edited out or something, I couldn't catch it.
- Thanks for explaining why Benoit was able to show up on Raw, guys. As long as the effort is there I'm happy.
- Jericho wins! (semi)clean even! It's against Faarooq, true, but he needed a chair to beat Mark Henry.
- The Undertaker stuff really appealed to me. A cheerful Undertaker sucking up to the crowd when things go his way gives me warm fuzzies. CLEAN HANDSHAKE OF FRIENDSHIP! AWESOME! Seeing him get hiptossed, armdragged and back body dropped was... impressive. Best UT match I've watched in a while. He seemed especially happy to be in the ring tonight.
- Cruisers. Nice match, if short. I'm surprised the chants of "Holy shit!" made it through to air, even if they were deserved. I'm really digging the Hurricane, if not his storyline.
- TEST WINS! TEST WINS! Finally, some revenge for that failed wedding... I'm sure The Goon was bouncing around the room after this one. For some reason I really liked the match itself. Maybe it was watching HHH getting tossed around a bit. That's always good for a smile from me.
- As for Angle / Edge, I will only say that if the new direction of the WWE involves 15 to 20 minutes for the main event every show, I'm all for it.
I think I should stop now, before this becomes its own column. We certainly wouldn't want that.

| #2 Posted on 31.5.02 0020.59 | I liked the show well enough...but one of these evening I'll have to watch instead of tape...my F.Forward trigger-finger get's itchy.
On the Maven thing, maybe it's just me but he looked like he took the baseball slide between Christian's legs a little funny. He stopped short like the edge of his boot caught or something. If that's how he did it, it's really kind of a freak accident.
My only complaints with the show were probably the opening match, and Vince's creepy old man segments. It's not even that they're THAT creepy, his overacting is just painful.
As for the matches...if UT could pull matches like that out of his ass every night, I'd maybe be less tempted to FF through his matches. This made up for the Tommy Dreamer segment.
And I agree, if I get a Angle/Edge caliber match every week...I'm a happy camper.

Oh, oh, back to wrestling.
I think the UT beating up on HHH was to make up for Maven's breaking a leg.
"Holy shit! Holy shit!" chants can be heard after the wipe out during the cruisers' tag match. Whoa!
Rikishi performed as well as he had in the past year.
Hulk Hogan is the best cheater ever, especially when backing up someone else. Angle got lucky he didn't wig out.

Who is Ms. Raven?
Dawn Marie showed up which was good. Test vs. Triple H was a match come true for me, even though Game lost. The Undertaker really let Randy Orton show out, and I didn't expect that. I'm glad we are getting close to finding out Hurricane's stalker. Shooting Star Presses from top ropes to the outside and unedited television make the product 'Juicy' for me bay-bee! Also I hadn't seen Edge do a top rope Spear in about 3 or 4 years.

| #7 Posted on 31.5.02 1019.47 | SmackDown was good stuff this week. 2 for 2 for the WWE this week, been a while since I can remember feeling that way. The bad - Ricoshi vs. Billy/Chuck, Vince talking (I've reached that point where I can't stand to hear his voice) and HHH's goofy Iron Cross Wifebeater - was pretty quick.
Maven/Christian wasn't anything really special, but it was fast-paced and if I hadn't read that Maven was injured, I never would have realized by the way he kept going and did moves that you don't expect a guy who just broke something in a leg to do. Did he actually get hurt before the pescado out onto Christian? And then he did the stuff on the turnbuckles. That's impressive.
The UT/Orton match was really great. This is the first time Orton's offense looked smooth, and I'll admit that the last person I'd expect who'd help someone's offense look good like that would be UT. Definitely a fun match, and his current character seems to work best messing with the younger guys and almost losing so he has to wake up and go for the kill. They should make this a recurring backstory for when he finally runs into Lesnar. The one thing I was waiting for and didn't get was, after the match, UT should have pulled a Nick Burns and came back out to grab the mic to say "Oh, and bah the way, Calgary sucks!" to the crowd. I bet he would have if HHH didn't have to model his latest stupid fashion attempt.
Ignoring the lousy ending as much as possible, I loved the cruiser match. This is exactly what I've been missing from the days of Nitro, when they'd send out Parka, Psicosis and some combination of the other cruisers for a crazy-ass tag match where everybody gets to break out their extra spots and moves and the crowd just completely goes for it. Bring up the other cruisers they have under contract and do matches like these every week and the SmackDown will be worth watching. I think I was most impressed with Hurricane, I kind of forgot how good he'd gotten at the end of WCW. I do miss the days when Kidman was allowed to wear something resembling pants, though.
And how about that main event, huh? After Raw's, I didn't think SmackDown would be able to find something comparable, since almost all of SmackDown's best workers are heels. Should have realized that the SD version of Guerrero/RVD over the last two months was Edge/Angle, and the Cage fits the two of them (especially Angle, who's like, the king of cage matches now) in the same way that the ladder fit Eddie and RVD. It was a great match with nifty cage spots and instead of Angle looking like a loser like a lot of heels have to when they lose a cage match for not going out, they found a way for him to actually leave the cage and still lose, but also not make Edge look stupid.
I submit that Angle should never be seen bald. The wig looked longer than the one he had on last week, so maybe that's a running bit and he'll have William Katt hair under the headgear next week and end up with a Mitch Mitchell white-guy afro the week after. But despite Edge and Hogan's best efforts, let him keep the hell toupee on in matches and backstage, he should have the top of his head conveniently blocked by magazines or somebody walking by with a comically big hat or by him standing behind a low-hanging sign or something, just to get people angrier at him for managing to hide the baldness. And he should also work in a "If you don't like me, bite me!" while he can, too. | Ike

| #11 Posted on 31.5.02 1326.15 | I don't think SD has as much huge highs and bad lows like Raw shows have. SD usually has a lot more consistent show
Rico/Rikishi v. AGD - Well it actually started out low point, this storyline is a week old, and I know what they are trying to do and I'm not interested and bored already.
Christian v. Maven - pretty good, if Maven hurt himself in the match I gave him major props.
Jericho v. Farrooq - A damn good match, a Farrooq match that I actually enjoyed. I give Farrooq credit for kinda going heel during the match and play with the crowd (smart vet move)
Orton v. Undertaker - Why did Taker cut a pure face promo (lol) A real nice match, "I know he won't win" type of match. Orton really shows some real natural talent. Taker took some moves from the kid, which was nice to see... seeing Trips come in and challenge for the title *sigh*
Hurricane/Kidman v. Chavo/Tajiri - Finally a cruiserwieght match that wasn't wrestled like "little heavywieghts"... No clue on who the mystery person is.
HHH v. Test - Unlike Jericho/Faarooq, this match was what I expected. Average match by these two. Not awful but nothing really struck me.
Angle v. Edge - Great match by these two again, not as exsiting as Raw main, but a great effort and did more then I expect seeing on free TV. Great slams from the cage
other stuff - Did Storm put a Looney in the collection box (lol)... I like Dawn Marie, I like Dawn Marie a lot. Do we need to see Dawn v. Stacy fighting over Vince, errr.
Very lacking in lines and good signs but... -Line of the night : Tazz " Those suppliments on Angle's hair has some side-effects, it makes stands up when he gets mad, and it makes you inrage easily" -Sign of the night : "Bring Back Shock-master" saw it during the last half hour.

Dawn Marie is hot. About time they had an Italian diva.
The finish to the Angle/Edge cage match was one of the coolest ever, with Edge perched up on the top rope like a gargoyle, then spearing a charging Angle. Simply awesome.

| #16 Posted on 31.5.02 1554.45 | Didn't watch the show (thanks for the recap, Zed!) but I guess Angle escaped without having the wig removed.
I'm sorry, but the angle is completely ridiculous...even for wrestling. I get a haircut every two weeks. Back in college, I shaved my head for a little while and it would grow back to a peachfuzzy amount in a short time. Angle didn't have much hair to begin with. By the next episode of Smackdown!, it will have been 18 days in storyline terms, 16 days in real-time; there is zero chance Angle is still bald or has so little hair that it would be embarrassing to have the wig removed.
So for storyline purposes, if Angle ever gets his wig removed, and his head is shaved...then obviously logic says Angle had to have shaved it after Judgment Day, which then begs the question as to why he'd be embarrassed about it being shaved if he did it on his own....ahhh my head is starting to hurt!
The only thing that would be make sense is if Angle got the wig removed and he had something of his normal haircut, thus preventing the fans from ever enjoying the results of him losing the Judgment Day match.
I will not accept a de-wigging next week or any point after that in which Angle is still bald...it will not make any sense. They should have done it right away just for the sake of all logic.

| #19 Posted on 1.6.02 0247.41 | I found the show funny, and I've also finally figured out Chris Jericho's new character aspect that makes me hate him so- the Buddyf##ker.
Let me explain. You're with a significant other of the opposite sex. You're making your move. You're almost there. And then one of your friends interjects himself into the mix and by the time he leaves, you lose any chance of moving forward with said member of the opposite sex unless some serious damage control is done to salvage the evening. Your friend, your buddy, your pal, has essentially screwed you over. My friend coined the term "buddyf##ker" to explain this behavior.
Now, look at Jericho's actions since Wrestlemania. Classic BF moves every time Vince tries to get all lascivious with some young lady. The funny part is that it works for Jericho's character.

I think the vast majority, if your view was correct, would be of the opinion that Jericho doing what he's doing isn't a bad thing...its a good thing. Nobody wants to see Vince get all lascivious with anyone.
