If you missed Smackdown you missed two really good matches in Styles vs Miz and Kalisto vs Owens and Ryback morphing into Ryberg with black trunks, knee pads and elbow pads. You also missed yet another Ambrose and Reigns main event tag match.
Kalisto vs Owens was a really fun little man vs bigger guy match with Owens tossing Kalisto around but also selling like gangbusters for Kalisto's high flying offense. The powerbomb on Kalisto onto Ziggler was an awesome spot. Kalisto won thanks to Ziggler and we've got a full fledged feud between Owens and Ziggler which will lead what should be an excellent match at Fastlane. That all said, it feels like Owens has taken a step back the last few weeks by jobbing a couple of times and now feuding with Ziggler, who jobbed to Heath freaking Slater just two weeks ago.
AJ vs Miz was one of Miz's best matches of his career as AJ made his weak offense look devastating really selling well and also AJ got pretty of offense too as his strikes looked very impressive and that spinning back fist looked nasty as hell and the amount of air he got on his springboard forearm was impressive. AJ beat Miz in around twelve minute with the calf killer called the calf crusher by Mauro, so the WWE has gotten over two finishers over for AJ. Chris Jericho was on commentary and was tremendous putting AJ over strongly and shutting Lawler down and the post match stuff with AJ and Jericho setting up their rematch on Smackdown next week was very good too. Believe it or not AJ vs Miz was better than AJ vs Jericho, hopefully AJ and Jericho have a very good match next week and nice to see something advertised a week ahead.
Becky and Sasha had a fun segment and the Social Outcast-New Day stuff was entertaining too.
All in all, this was a pretty strong show with great commentary that enhanced the product and two strong matches. It really is amazing that the same company that produces Raw, which usually is a chore to get through also produces Smackdown. The AJ and Owens matches are worth checking out and the presentation of AJ on Smackdown and others is so much better than Raw and that is probably because Vince is not always backstage on Raw.
I suspect the calf crusher will be AJ's regular finisher against everyone, the Styles Clash will be used in big situations (when facing guys who can actually take it) and then the Spiral Tap will be saved as the murder-death-kill finisher for big PPV shows. It's a good idea for guys to have multiple believable finishers, it helps for variety's sake.
George Michael weighed his options. Maeby had chastised him for not taking risks, and what would be a bigger risk than perpetuating a lie about software just to ignite the passions of a woman? Of course it would be a lie, and since Maeby wouldn't know it was a lie, he wouldn't appear to be taking a risk. Perhaps the bigger risk was to tell his father he was lying, that he came up with it because he wanted his father to leave so he could enjoy what remained of his senior year. After all, he wondered, wouldn't that be the course of action taken by an overtly sexual man, a man who owns a pair of matador pants? He had not responded now for 41 seconds according to his unfailing internal clock, and it was time to come clean.
Lawler is back to being a heel commentator? Why didn't anyone send out a memo?! He's even a subtle cynical heel as opposed to his perverted insult comic dog heel commentary during the 90's. JBL and Cole should of taken more notes from this man.
Owens and Ziggy may have been shot down the card but they are working with each other so I'm very excited. Poor Kallisto won't have that belt for two months.
Cole: "Yeah, thanks to Kane. You should buy Kane a Rolex watch for what he did for you."
Rollins: "Oh don't be silly, Kane doesn't wear watches."
Aw man, I went looking for a resurrected RSPW Awards last year around November and didn't see any sign of 'em. I always enjoyed voted for these... Has Taz(z) really fallen to Worst Color Commentator in the biz over on Impact?
