Sorry no detailed recap from me. I didn't catch the whole thing, but did see more than I have in a long time.

- Johnathan Coachman is not a good choice for color commentary for the show. It's better than seeing him chase Hornswagle around, but not as good as seeing him play the new Gerry Brisco.

- I like the fake Edge gimmick. It reminds me of the fake Saddams from Arrested Development. A dickhead like Edge needs good flunkies to throw to the wolves.

- I would have been a lot happier with the end of the Undertaker match had he squashed ole Matt Striker after the bogus count. However, Matt Striker did give a good post match interview then pretty much blew the whole thing by bringing in his muscle or threat Big Daddy V.

- The Rey match was really anti climatic. The lights going out, going back on showing Taker in the ring then going back off and showing Edge dead would have been a much more fun visual. It's not live so they could have clipped the thing just right.

- Overall it was an entertaining show, but the lack of quality heels after Edge and MVP really hurts the whole product. I really don't see a way to fix it, but it's bothersome. I do enjoy the longer bell to bell time and way less chit chat than Raw. The Cole/Coachman combo could get old really quick and that could be a problem unless they plan on making Coach a GM down the road.

Coach could work really well with the right partner, but it isn't Cole. MC got all worked up and excited when calling the part of the 'Taker/Mark Henry match when MH got the dead man in a ... bear ... hug. Exilerating.

And why does SD! keep getting screwed on the talent end of the deal? Raw gets Jericho and then gets JBL and SD! gets Chavo. Woohoo! Chavo! With hair plugs I think!

All of this as well as the awful, awful Vickie Guererro and the show still gets by ok. That in itself is impressive.

The instant I heard "Edge v. Rey", my money was forfeit. Everything else is bonus, but if given enough time it HAS to be great/amazing.

I see it jerking the curtain and getting maybe 8 minutes.

I do like that all of the other matches (or the 3 that I know of) at the Rumble seem interesing on paper, and I would think they should be allowed at least 15 minutes each. Then again, JBL might be gassed at 5 minutes, so that may not be possible. But the 2 title matches involve 4 guys who can go, so they should be given plenty of time. Which means BigDaddyLoco will be right, and they get 8 minutes.

It's definitely the freshest pair of title matches since, I dunno, maybe ever. I am pretty psyched. For once, the Rumble being the real drawing match has allowed cool title matches to be booked instead of uncool ones with Bob Holly or Mark Henry. Yeah, Triple H might decide to go 25 minutes with Regal to teach all those guys how to work, but there'll still be enough time by default. Regardless, it's the Punk/Shelton ECW title opener that's there to get cut to 3:30. Then again, Regal has been wearing a suit and selling for a midget for four months, so by the King Booker dictum, HHH will have no choice but to kill him in five minutes.

Watching Vickie Guerrero's heel GM character, I can't help but think someone in Creative or maybe Vickie herself really dug Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Vickie reminds me a lot of Delores Umbridge. Heel Vickie is working for me, which I wouldn't have thought a month ago.

The announcers failed to hammer home the implications that had Edge succeeded in eliminating Batista, Undertaker and Rey in Beat the Clock, he'd be facing Chavo. Would Vickie and Edge have asked Chavo to lay down at the Rumble? I guess we'll never know.

Rey has really diminished physically. His knee injuries and currently lower center of gravity (polite way of saying he is fat) have seriously limited his ability to do his moves. Some of his attempts at ranas and moonsaults were cringe worthy.

You need to take that to the next level, John. If EDGE had beaten the clock, he could have defended his title against ... himself!

Nah, it was Rey's challenge to win or lose. (see: Super Crazy beating Kennedy in under ten seconds the last time they did this)

As far as I can remember, they only did that once -- the stip that if the person in the main event were beaten, the person who beat them would take their place in the main event. I want to say it was before an Elimination Chamber match, and the winner got the coveted last release or something like that. None of the others had a "lose and you're out" stip.

I remember that. Batista was involved, I want to say against La Resistance, but that doesn't sound right.

I am sure you have the stips right: the 6 guys already announced to be in the EC each had a BTC match, lose and your opponent takes your place, fastest time enters the chamber last. (At the time, they were pushing the "the last entrant has always won the EC" thing, so it had to be an EC before the New Year's Resolution one where Cena won and then got boned out of the title thanks to Edge and the Money in the Bank case.)

I'm Charlie Owens, good night, and good luck.

It was the Jan '05 Puerto Rican Chamber. Jericho defended his spot against Christian, HHH against Shelton, Edge against Eugene, Benoit against Viscera, Batista against Rhyno, Orton against Maven.

Please tell me I didn't remember those right.

I'm all for anything that gets Hardcore Holly out of the ring and into a small gymnasium where he's "training" kids. My fingers are now crossed that Holly is picked to "help out."
