That may have far less to do with censorship than with just general syndication practices. Most syndicated shows have about 30 extra seconds cut out, in order to sell space for one more ad. Sometimes one whole 30-second chunk of the episode is cut out, whereas other times, little one-liners or asides are snipped away, adding up to 30 seconds.

I was speaking in particular of modifications. For example, the episode where Meg and the family become a pop group. When they meet the record executive in prison, there were a couple words changed around, especially centering around Peter signing the prisoner's asscheeks with a knife.

I've been there, and there is the hillcrests and there is the statue that looks suspiciously like Jebbediah Springfield and an energy plant over everything. And the storefronts on the main drag look similar...but like I said, I have nothing concrete to go on here except the claim of a friend of mine.

Groeing grew up in Portland, and according to the rumor/ummm maybe it was an article in the local paper, he thought the town of Springfield from the cartoon "Wait Till Your Father Comes Home" was the one in Oregon growing up. I don't know if that is true, but that story keeps sticking. I believe Evergreen Terrace is a suburb of Portland in regards to BigSteve post. It's something of a sport for slackers around here to figure out where he is referencing.

I live in Eugene, and I've been to the main drag in Springfield more than a few times, and it does look a lot like the one immortalized in the Cartoon.

To further cement this is that there has been a few in-jokes towards Eugene beyond just whole Springfield-Shelbyville rivalry. Eugene was named after Eugene Skinner, who ran a portage or ferry across the Willamette, if I am not mistaken. So there is the tie-in with Jebbidiah Springfield. Eugene was mentioned at least twice, to my knowledge. When there was a Simpsons' flashback of the Lewis and Clark expedition, when they arrived at the Pacific Ocean it's raining hard, and Lenny (or Carl as one of the famed adventurers)pronounce this a beautiful land, and names it Eugene, Oregon. There is one in Futurama, about the Hobo planet, referencing the amount of hobos in Eugene. That one I got from hearsay, so I am not sure it is out there.

This past Sunday's episode had Stewie poking fun at Mr. Plow. Priceless.

It was atrractive and sarcastic nit-picking, as he was poking fun at the fans, not Mr. Plow.

Perhaps even poking fun at their own fans. Most of the people I know who like Family Guy fit this description perfectly.
