Simon Cowell will no longer be crushing terrible singers' dreams on the most popular show on television.
Cowell just announced this will be his last season on "American Idol" -- and that he's leaving the show to be a judge and executive producer on FOX's upcoming American version of "The X Factor" ... the British talent show that launced Leona Lewis' career.
Cowell just made the announcement during the semiannual Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena.
That should pretty much put the final nail in the coffin of American Idol. They can carry on without Paula, but there's no way they can keep going without Simon. A replacement would feel tacked on and simply standing pat isn't an option now that Ellen's on board, since they need a sour presence to counter her sweetness.
They SHOULD call it a series, but they probably won't. Especially not when Simon's still the guy cashing in on it.
Well, yea. It's more for power - the X Factor is going to be his show, he's not sharing it with the other Simon who owns idol - but more money is surely part of it.
Funny how I knew exactly who you were talking about from the words "In a world...." Does anyone know which movie trailers actually have him saying those immortal words?
