I HAD posted this over in the Favre thread, but decided to start a different thread:

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Reports are circulating that breakout wide receiver Sidney Rice could miss a good part of the season as the injured hip that caused him to miss nearly all of camp will likely require surgery.

The Star Tribune reports that Rice was at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., on Monday to have his hip examined, and that surgery would be expected to sideline Rice for at least the first half of the season.

Rice says he suffered the injury in the Viking's heartbreaking loss to New Orleans in the NFC Championship game last January. The team put him on the physically unable to perform list, or PUP, and he has been unable to take part in nearly all of the drills since the season officially began.

Specialists he saw in the off-season suggested surgery might be the best option then, but Rice decided not to have it done.

Rice's injury could have been taken care of this offseason, but Rice elected not to have surgery, despite the fact two of three specialists he saw suggested that might be the best idea.

Meanwhile, multilple reports say the Vikings are pursuing former Packer wideout Javon Walker, who was a favorite target of Brett Favre's when both were playing in Green Bay in 2005. Walker was just cut by the Oakland Raiders, and could be a good addition with questions about Rice's hip and Percy Harvin's migrane headaches.

W. T. F. Talk about shooting yourself in the hip. Honestly, Rice SHOULD have had the hip surgery as soon as they recommended it. Take it from someone who has had surgery on both hips, the rehab is NOT that long. Anywho, I hope he is under the knife tomorrow and can get back sometime in November, hell, even October. He's got the benefit of having complete rehab facilities to help him along. I just had our backyard above ground pool, and that did wonders for me.

KFAN just confirmed that Rice HAD the surgery yesterday. Now, they are bewildered as to why he didn't do it right away. Yeah, we're gonna head alot about that. Anywho, quick recovery, Sidney!!!! Also, the talk is pretty serious about Javon Walker.

double edit - They signed Walker:

Their fragile wide reciever situation prompted the Vikings to sign former Packer Javon Walker, the team announced Tuesday.

RIP... always a class act, a man of true character who led by example both on the field and on the coaching staff. It's hard to believe that, even though his life was in serious jeopardy due to the cancer, that he's actually gone.
