DETROIT RED WINGS v. CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS
WRIGLEY FIELD
1/1/09, 12:00 CST

Would you like to learn more? (nhl.com)

This year I promise not to sleep through it like I did last year.

Today you can catch outdoor practice coverage on NHL Network - YOU can. I'm at work and I don't think we paid to pick that up on the TV over here.

Bloody hell!

How was it? I'm watching the higlights on the NHL Network now but all I'm getting from those is that there were a lot of goals.

Not particularly a hockey fan, but I kind of enjoyed the game. The wings were clearly half-assing it in the first period and the Hawks were excited. Then the Wings just took over. They were clearly faster, had better formations and more discipline than the Hawks.

For me, as an old Chicago fan, the actual highlight was Stan Mikita, Bobby Hull, Ryne Sandberg, Billy Williams and others singing Take me out to the Hockey Game as the teams switched sides at 10 minutes of the third period.

I did notice the puck was bouncing like crazy.

We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.

The ice conditions were much better without the snowfall.

Visually, it was great. Game-wise...it was a hockey game.

There should be more games played outside, but if they became more commonplace, the NHL wouldn't be able to charge as much as they do for their Winter Classic games.

It was fun, but I think the Hawks might have tried showing up for the last two periods, a bit of a squandered chance to draw in the casual fans, I think.

Oh, and I still miss Wayne Messmer for the anthem.

I have to sneak out of work early today. No way I am missing this doubleheader. It would be great to see the Habs pull the upset and knock out the Bruins. Is anyone else getting the feeling that they might just sneak into the Cup finals?
