Speaking as an Eagles fan, if I had had to make the choice, it wouldn't have mattered a damn if RAW opened with Stacy vs Trish in a 'loser sleeps with dMr' match, carried on with the climax of the Jericho/HBK feud, and closed with Goldberg/HHH for the title. I'd still have watched MNF.
Of course, speaking as an Eagles fan I'd probably have thrown the TV out of a high place onto a hard place shortly after the start of the 3rd, so nobody would have gotten any ratings ;)

MNF and RAW dont come on right at the same time as each other all over the country. In other words, the highest rated segment of the game wasnt in the 2nd quarter at all everywhere, and halftime didnt coincide with the ratings drop everywhere either.
The bigger picture is Brian Pillman desperately wanted to be a main event guy, and he figured out that going somewhere else (ECW) and being treated like a main eventer would be his best chance at finally being treated like one in WCW.
