That explains why Ted Kennedy wasn't around for most of the health care reform proceedings. I know he came out early on to lend his support, but quickly disappeared again. I didn't expect for him to have taken a turn for the worse, which he apparently did.

If not for 9-11, Freddy Ferrer, not Mark Green, would have been mayor. Freddy was getting polling over 40% (what you need to avoid a runoff), and would have easily beaten Bloomberg. Even post 9-11, he would have beaten Bloomberg.
