It's interesting to note that the top four seeds advance from the East, while the bottom four seeds advance from the West (sigh).

East:
Buffalo vs. Ottawa
New Jersey vs. Carolina

West:

Edmonton vs. San Jose
Colorado vs. Anaheim

Well, I'm predicting a romp in the Cup finals for whomever survives the East (I worry it'll be the Devils).

The teams in the West have all knocked off 'better'opponents.
The Oilers took it to the Red Wings, the Ducks outbattled the Flames, the Avs proved they are still a huge force to be reckoned with. And the Sharks are definitely a contender with that Joe guy in the lines.

So yeah, It does look like the Eastern conference winner will have a few easy games, but it might not go that way.

I surely hope that the Canes can do what the Rangers couldn't, and score plenty of Marty Brodeur.
And if they cannot do it, then (probably) The Senators.

I was gonna make a thread yesterday after the game taunting all the Canucks who picked the Flames over the Ducks

I keed, I keed, but seriously, it was a fun series to watch, and an interesting game seven. I thought the Ducks would have a lot more trouble, especially taking into consideration the Flames' crowd in earlier games.

I really hate to shove Giguere, playoff hero of '03, aside, but I'd go with Bryzgalov from this point forward.

Sutter replaced Conroy, Gelinas & Lydman with Amonte, McCarty & Hamrlik. Experience over youth. Ah, well. After seven seasons on the outside looking in, I can deal with a first round loss.

From here on in, I'm hoping for the Sens & the 'Canes. And the Not-Oilers, whoever they happen to be.

After watching Detroit-Edmonton and Montreal-Carolina, game 7 of Calgary-Anaheim was painful to watch. Anaheim dominated with their style of play, but neither the Flames nor the crowd were at all into it. I'm not convinced Iginla is the best choice for the Flames' captaincy. I also half wonder if he might be better off with a change of scenery a la Thornton or Kariya. I know that's probably some kind of blasphemy to Calgary fans, but I didn't see Iginla leading that team in any meaningful way.

In the interests of an all-Canadian final:

Ottawa over Buffalo in 5
Carolina over New Jersey in 7

Edmonton over San Jose in 6
Colrado over Anaheim in 6

Ironically, though I'm from the States, I'd like to see an all-Canada Stanley Cup Final. Hockey's much more of a religion up north than it is here (granted I've never lived in an NHL city), and I think y'all are due.

I'm stil a little wary of Ray Emery in the nets for Ottawa, especially if Buffalo can score goals like they did in round 1. Sabres in 7, to face New Jersey in the conference finals. Devils over Carolina in 6 to get there.

Anaheim over Colorado in 6, provided Bryzgalov can keep it up. Otherwise, probably winds up Avs in 7.

If the Ducks can pull it off, it will set up an all-California conference final, Sharks over Edmonton in 6.

NHL executives then throw themselves out of windows, as the Cup finals will be San Jose vs. Buffalo.

Actually, I'm normally not one to go all patriotic about this; I just think that the most exciting possible finals given the teams left and the way they're playing is Edmonton against Ottawa. I could live with San Jose or Anaheim in the West or Carolina in the East, but for my money, Edmonton/Ottawa is the best possible matchup

Holy shit, that was an exciting game.
3 goals in the first 4 minutes, 3 goals in the last 90 seconds of regulation and then while the announcers were still giggling about the fact that it might not take long, it was over.
This promises to be an exciting series.
The Senators will strike back.

The Ducks destroyed the Avs. made me feel happy.
And GOOOOO HURRICANES!! DESTROY THE DEBBIES!!

Ollie Jokkinen to Calgary seems to be firing up, but it probably won't get going until after noon, when we find out who made it through waivers. The Ottawa trade confuses me, Leclaire is still out, and probably will be for the rest of the season.
