On Sunday, my friend and I were channel surfing and we stumbled across the Laureus Sports Awards (I think) on NBC. When we tuned in, there were a bunch of people biking/skating/blading in a half-pipe set up on stage. We probably would have changed it, but then we saw Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones watching with awe-filled smiles on their faces. The cameras cut back to the extreme athletes for a bit, then another. What's in this cut? It's the real 007, Sean Connery. Not only is he enjoying the show, but he's nudging the guy next to him and pointing at what the dudes are doing. My friend and I don't believe it's really him, so we stay tuned to see if it is indeed Sean. We sit for another 2-3 minutes, and shot of a not-so-impressed Morgan Freeman. However, another shot of Sean Connery heartily enjoying the show not only confirms our suspicions, but hooks us into the final sequence. Finally, the display came to an end, and the crowd showed their appreciation with a nice round of applause. But that's not all. Sean Connery gets up on his feet and starts the standing ovation. At that point, my friend and I died laughing. Does anybody know anything similar about Mr. Connery?
I can't give any more background, but I happened to see the same part of the show you did. I saw some leading up to it, and yeah, it was the Laureus World Sports Awards in in Monaco, hosted by Eric "Soul Glo" LaSalle. Connery leading the standing ovation for some extreme Mountain Dew type guys was indeed hilarious and I turned it off after that because, really, it could only go downhill from something that funny.
Merry Christmas. Regardless of where you are, what you do, who you are, regardless of faith, social or economical class, please accept this humble well wishing on a day in late December in a world where many, myself included, find despair fairly easily.
