Time for a big ol' dollop of optimism! What a GREAT show.

- John Cena looked like a million bucks. Could you ask for a better first TV matchup? It always helps when you're in the ring with Angle. SO glad Angle took the headgear off, giving the fans nowhere to go. Loved the congratulations the guys (especially the Undertaker) gave Cena afterward. An amazing opener. Ruthless Agression = New Stars = My Face rocked.

- and THEN, we get a kick-ass tag-team match with Billy/Chuck and Valbowski/Holly. That was one of the most fast-paced, non-stop-action tag team matches I've seen in quite some time. I hope they keep Valbowski and Holly together.

- Yes, the girls coming out in next to nothing was filler, but one look at Stacy in her fantasy outfit, and I sure wanted to fill 'er. WAHHH HAAAA BREWGUY FUNNY

- Lance Storm looked awesome again tonight. Henry was tossin' him around something fierce. That toss over the top rope was CRAZY. But Storm getting the clean win was terrific - it furthers his credibility and his intensity is really, really increasing. RUTHLESS AGGRESSION

- HOLY JUMPIN' JACKED-UP JIMINY CRICKETS, BATISTA IS GODZILLA. He makes TRIPLE H look small. He makes BROCK LESNAR look small. He is UNNATURALLY big. OUT-OF-PROPORTION big. No WAY that's natural. But holy crap, is he one scary lookin' mutha when he's in wrestling gear. Looked great in the ring too, for all the 10 seconds we saw him. He nearly DECAPITATED Orton with that clothesline. That was SICK.

- Team Canada is born, and is born very nicely. While I dislike the "America Sucks!" comment (even if it WAS Test saying it), I loved the story in the ring, with the "obvious Canadian bias". That was great stuff. Test RULES again. His intensity is so great, and I WORSHIP the "fake punch and laugh" spot with the ref. Now you've got THREE pissed-off Canucks, which is the equivilant of about 1.7 pissed-off Americans, so WATCH OUT!!!! I'm really looking forward to this angle (naturally), especially if they concentrate on why Canada is great, and not how America sucks. Storm totally needs to break out the Canada tights now.

- Edge's return RULED THE WORLD. LOVED him coming in to Y2J's entrance, and now I can sit back and watch these two go at it big-time. This is gonna be a kick-ass feud, and worth the price of Vengence alone. Jericho was amazing tonight - a really well-put-together match to make Jericho look even more evil. And the subtle build-up to the eventual McMahon-Hogan match continues.

Look at ME all happy! Me! Happy! Happy! ME! ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME!

If this is what Ruthless Aggression is all about, then thank you Mr. McMahon; may I have some more?

Gotta agree, and I only caught the second half of the show. I'm rewinding to watch the first half as I type!!

Back in his early OVW days I always thought Bautista (Leviathan) was "Bill Goldberg with two more moves". In his little bit of time tonight, he was able to show a little more than that, and there's certainly much more to come.

Cornette (and the rest of the OVW staff) has to be a proud papa after the last few weeks. Bautista, Rico, Cena, Orton, and Nidia are all getting some good exposure and just solidifies why they have OVW and HWA in the first place.

See, kids, this is why you need TWO UPN affiliates in your cable lineup. Our affiliate routinely blacks out SD for Red Sox games, and tonight's got rained out... at around 8:15. So they go back to SD... and I miss the Angle/Cena match. I was pissed enough to not watch... especially since the first segment I saw was the preview of the Divas special. I was going to put my couch through the TV if they introduced "the gorgeous Terri".

Smackdown was awesome, I took a shit during the only match i thought i wouldnt like (Rikishi and Test) and came out to see Test's nice little backstage thing. As a general statement, I think all of the new talent that they are bringing to both shows is very VERY good. The only newer face that I'm still not too impressed with in the ring is Maven, otherwise I like what I see.

I guess the jury is still out for a few of you on Maven. Granted, he hasn't been a round for a while, but he will be a bonafide star in the near future. He has more of an upside then a downside.

He seems over with the crowd, and damn...what a dropkick!

I'm not totally down on him or anytihng, but I think these newer guys besides him have better movesets at this point in time. I too think he will be a big star, just maybe not as fast as some of the other guys.

I think Maven might make it *faster* than any of the others (with the logical exception of Brock). He's not the best in the ring, but he's awesome for never having stepped between the ropes until, what? A year ago? Fifteen months ago?

Plus, he's got a really weird kind of charisma. Thanks to Tough Enough, people feel almost like they know him. He's not just another young wrestler -- he's a TV pal! (The same goes for Chris Nowinski, Nidia and Linda Miles, although I feel Jackie may be a totally lost cause.)

We can complain about a lot of things wrong with the WWE, but "not building new stars" should NOT be among those complaints. For those that doubt the power of the split, witness the many new stars that have emerged since then: Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, Deacon Batista, Jamie Noble, and now John Cena. And let's not forget guys like Rob Conway and Sean O'Haire appearing on the B-shows. The WWE looks to be building for the future rather than the present, so let's enjoy the ride for right now.

Personally, I heard a lot of bad reviews about John "Prototype" Cena from house shows attendees. And ANYBODY can have a good match against Angle, so color me unimpressed for the moment. But I heard the guy can be pretty damn entertaining, so I'll give him a chance. Let's see what he does next week.

totally rockin' show tonight. there were points where it was plodding, but i think that was because i was anxiously awaiting the next big dose of AWESOME from the show.

i did skip the lingerie related instances, the vince promo (until angle stood alone), anything related to hogan, and most of the taker promo (until angle showed up).

angle vs cena was killer. i had heard it was a good match, and it didn't let me down. hopefully, cena can still get it on like this with less-super-excellent wrestlers. if he can keep it up, he's definately going places.

chuckabilly vs hardcore valbowski was what i expected. i know all four guys can get it on in the right circumstances, and tonight proved that. good tag match that i missed adding to my random match compilation tape. i am still mad over that.

the cruiserweight tag match was excellent, of course. i don't like the toning down and wwf'ing of the cruiserweight style, but hey, these guys are all damn good in the ring without flying as much, so i can accept it anyway. i can't wait for rey to show up.

the good deacon... erm, just batista and d-von vs orton and faarooq was a spirited little affair. it didn't go too long, and deacon got a chance to just explode in the ring, which was awesome to see. this man... is a monster.

hogan vs jericho wasn't that bad. i wasn't falling asleep or dying to change the channel, which is the norm for when hogan is on my tv. the ending was predictable, but the edge return was awesome. i'm glad to see him back!

saving the best for last: the next anti-american angle just totally has me caught up. i don't *hate* america, but i do enjoy ragging on it at any opportunity i get, just because i'm a dick. add to that lance storm, christian (two of my top ten wrestlers) and test (who i do not hate at all) and bam... got me hooked. storm over henry was also awesome, considering that i figured he would lose somehow.

anyway, go wwf.

I guess I'll chime in and say this was a good show for a company still trying to find its way. Cena/Angle was swell, Jericho pulled a decent match out of the Hulkster (plus debuting that bizarre gyration before the second rope sitdown), and I really dig Jamie Noble. The only question I had coming out of the show was, will they stick Jericho into the Canadian Mafia storyline? Seems to me that Lance is doing pretty well as a spokesman for that group, but then they could use the legitimacy that a guy like Y2J could bring. Plus, they could paint Edge as a "turncoat" and a "closet American". It could be the McCarthy hearings all over again except flipped around. Of course it would go way over the fanbase's heads but I would get a kick out of it.

In a nutshell; ditto.

I think they should lave Lance in charge of it. He's getting MAD heat for the Canadian Mafia.

This is one of the things that reminds me of the final days of WCW.

No, wait! It's a good comparison.

I like that WWE is giving guys like this a big stage one which to shine. I like it even better that these guys like Cena (who was AMAZING and had the crowd in the palm of his hand without so much as theme music. And who ever booked him against Angle deserves a raise)come in with a tremendous energy that seems to infect the older guys and makes for, if nothing else, some decent matches.

Are they green? Yeah, but energy can make a bad show watchable. It worked when Nitro turned into WCW Saturday Nitro as the Thrillers went from time watsers to effective and (more or less) over wrestlers. Given some more time I think they would have grown into stars of their own and WCW would have had the beginnings of a sound future. Then again it's WCW, who can tell.

It's not gonna happen overnight, and it won't pop the ratings instanly, but the real WWE gold is in these guys.

Stuff like that is what I keep watching for.

Well, from what I saw of the show, I really enjoyed it, but unfortunately, my tape was of really, REALLY shitty quality, and therefore I was constantly trying to adjust tracking and so on and so forth, so when I knew it was going to be bad quality (75%) of the tape, I just fast forwarded--

but the Cena match kicked ass, and I enjoyed the rest of what I saw, especially Batista (sp?)! Guy's just a monster!
