One of the big factors in who can have a submission finisher or not is who is a face/heel at any given time. Some guidelines:

1)Main event faces NEVER tap out.
2)Heels rarely get sub. wins because it makes the face look weak. When it doesh appen, it is due to an obvious advantage on the heel's side (see: Jericho vs Maven)

The only main eventer who has a chance at beating another main eventer by submission rightn ow is The Rock. Austin could, but he has no submission hold to apply.

I don't know if I completely agree with that observation.. I think that Jericho, Angle, and when he returns Benoit all _could_ pull out a submission against a main eventer.. it'd just be at the end of a long ass match likely involving runins and passing out... which is still a submission victory.. just without the submission

The guy is so big you can give him any kind of power finisher and it will be believable.

The scary thing about Steiner is that one of these days all of his muscels are just gonna tear away from the bone.

He would be a good late addition to the nWo.

Hey, Rock would sell a submission finisher great, and it would work as the end of the match. Austin, on the other hand NEVER taps out. The only times I've seen him tap out were twice during his last heel run. Once, when the Crossface/Walls double submission was applied, and then again when Angle was the babyface and won at Unforgiven (but Austin was under the ropes). It's not really a bad thing, but it's just the way Austin's character is. Kinda unfortunate though, that I know Jericho cannot beat him as a heel with the Walls. Takes all the fun out of the false-finish.

where Steiner's concerned:
His steroid use has affected his health to the point where, at the very least, he's a bad investment because of the health risks involved.
Steiner has already had several torn muscle injuries, which always result from juice overload. (In fact, whenever an athlete goes down because of a 'torn bicep', you can bet that athlete was juicing. Which means Mo Vaughn or anyone else.) Next to follow is chronic lower back pain. (this means you, Mark McGuire) Not to mention the damage done to internal organs like the liver and spleen.
So why invest money and time booking a program with a guy who's a sure bet to be out of action for prolonged lengths of time?
Not to mention the fact that he's a prick.

since i assume the wwf would be signing him because the fans want to see him... and they know his health... they could always go back to the per appearance basis... or stipulate his contract to be based on his health and how many times he actually wrestles...

Rock may sell it, but he wouldn't tap out. As for Austin, he was a heel at the time, so it was OK for him to tap.

Sorry, I think that's just the WWF limiting themselves in their booking. I think given the circumstances (maybe six chairshots to the back or something) followed by the Walls of Jericho locked in for a while, the Rock tapping out would be a great finish. You'd just have to hear Ross screaming, "The Rock HAS to tap out! By GAWD his back is injured and no man can stand that much pain!" That'd also serve to put the Walls and Jericho himself over some more.

-Jag's Opinion - Worthless to all, funny to some.

The thing is, Ross DOES say that when a submission hold is locked in. The submission just never happens.

Let's see... circumstances of six chairshots, and the Walls locked in for a while, before the Rock would tap. I fail to see how that would actually put over the Walls of Jericho.

I mean after all, Rock's gone down to a plain old sleeperhold before.

No matter how bad things may get, just imagine what would happen if Vince Russo was booking again, and you will feel better.

HOW THE HELL DID Y'ALL GET ON SUBMISSION MOVES??!! This was supposed to be about the GENETIC FREAK, THE PHENOMENON THE BIG BAD BOOTY DADDAY, Big Poppa Pump? What happened? Anyway, while we're on the subject, the problem is no one uses cool submissions in the WWF. That stuff don't look believable. Except for the crippler crossface. Now most of the shit DOES hurt in real life but everyone knows wrestling's fake so the moves gotta look more painful. Now the Walls of Jericho looks pretty cool on SOME of the wrestlers but it's just a boston crab. Angle's anklelock is cool when he bites the wrestler's shoe while it's locked on. Rock's sharpshooter looks like crap, he doesn't seem to set it in. The Tazzmission....please, I won't even go there. But no one does cool finishers. Like the claw, the full nelson, the hellacious sleeper hold or my personal favorite the Garvin Stomp, just jokin. But anyway back to Steiner; Has anyone ever met the guy? I wonder what he's like. He seems like a Tyson....well maybe not that bad but has anyone met him before?

I wish the Undertaker hadn't stopped with the Dragon sleeper (although he hasn't wrestled much lately, maybe he still will use it). I love that move, for some reason.

In fact, he is as far as I know the last guy to go down due to a plain sleeperhold, against Trip in the ironman match?

On Steiner: Walls, Figure 4, Tazzmission, all look alot more impressive than the common Steiner recliner. BPP hardly ever made it look serious, and the lameness of the move (and his push) became apparent when he locked in two guys at once. Gimme a break. They were often just sitting Doggystyle and he was holding their chins...

A healthy Steiner could be great btw. I don't know how crazy he is IRL, but in the ring he got his act down and could cause some major havoc in the wwf.

The Anglelock is an awsome finishing manuver. I think it's the way Angle gets into it. He even made Kane tap to it.

PLUS I also like the fact that a lot of the top guys have a submission finisher and another finisher. I think it adds to the element of surprise.

Realistically speaking about the Recliner, it can be a dangerous move insofar as the fact that Scott Steiner has his gigantic arms around your neck, and can probably pop your head like a zit if he really wanted to.

Beyond that, it looks like crap. I like his variation with the lead pipe choke though. What else is he going to do though? No one on earth (in North America at least) will take the Steiner Screwdriver, and he can no longer do the Frankensteiner on the ground (he used a top rope version for a year or so after his heel turn).

Well, I can't blame people for not wanting to take the Screwdriver or a Franken'roider. Would YOU?

There are only about 3,471 submission holds out there that (a) would look damn painful with someone as big as Steiner applying them, (b) would look a lot more painful than the Recliner ever has, and (c) nobody's using them in the WWF (to my knowledge) right now. Stretch Plum? Elevated Double Chickenwing? (Okay, Jazz busted an EDC out the other night, but it'd been ages since I'd seen one before that. Hail Steamboat.) George Steele's classic Elevated Hammerlock? Maybe an old-school Full Nelson of some sort?

I'm inclined to agree here. Hell, I thought his promo on Flair after The Austin Incident (register your trademarks now!) was damned well done, for *any* wrestler. He may've been the worst of the three in the ring at the time...
