ESPN - Sources: Cards agree to trade that would send Rolen to Blue Jays for Glaus
The St. Louis Cardinals have reached agreement on a trade with Toronto that will send third baseman Scott Rolen to the Blue Jays for third baseman Troy Glaus, two major league sources said.
The Cards lose a prized Gold Glove winner, but get some power in exchange. Glaus could hit behind Pujols and give the Cards a better offense. I'll be interested to see how Rolen does in the American League, but he could potentially make a bigger splash playing up north.

The Cards lose a guy who could NEVER stay healthy and thus never play up to his full potential. He's a hell of a player but just one of those guys that can't stop falling apart. | Merc

I'm not sure he can play a full schedule in the field at this point in his career, which is why he struggled last year when he couldn't get days off in the DH spot that was filled by Frank Thomas in Toronto. Playing on natural grass in St. Louis will help, but it may not be enough.
Frankly, it seems like an apples-for-apples deal, with the benefit going to St. Louis since La Russa rids himself of a clubhouse headache.
How you uh, how you comin' on that novel you're working on? Huh? Gotta a big, uh, big stack of papers there? Gotta, gotta nice litte story you're working on there? Your big novel you've been working on for 3 years? Huh? Gotta, gotta compelling protaganist? Yeah? Gotta obstacle for him to overcome? Huh? Gotta story brewing there? Working on, working on that for quite some time? Huh? Yea, talking about that 3 years ago. Been working on that the whole time? Nice little narrative? Beginning, middle, and end? Some friends become enemies, some enemies become friends? At the end your main character is richer from the experience? Yeah? Yeah? |
