And Norton looks even more impressive than someone tall like Taker. That chest of his is just massive. No wonder his outfit had brick walls on it.
This guy got over (with a minority of fans i guess but still) by just being a bad looking mofo.
The only gimmick he had was that he beat the snot out of you..

WHY must big guys sell normal moves? Norton sold the important ones just fine. I can't imagine he'd be a real easy guy to put down for the 1, 2, 3...

And now you're killing ME.

There's a big difference between "being hard to pin" and "I'm the Incredible Hulk and nothing short of an M-16 can dent me." Too many big guys in wrestling have this "I can't sell or I'll look WEAK" complex, when selling properly makes both them AND the match much better. NOT selling does two things: it makes the match boring and it makes the opponent look bad.

There is NOTHING wrong with a big guy taking a punch/kick/move from a smaller guy and acting like it hurts. It's SUPPOSED to look like it hurts. What I want to see is a big guy who's a bulldog, not a brick wall -- lots of things can knock him down, but almost nothing can KEEP him down. There are lots of two-counts in his matches, but only something special gets the three on him. He's someone you can wear down, but that you HAVE to wear down, and you'd better have something devastating ready for the finish because he's just getting madder and madder (and he can take YOU out real quick if he gets an opening for a big power move).

Of course he can beat the snot out of anyone, given the chance. He's built like a bison. That doesn't mean that his matches can't look competitive.

Well you have to admit using a M-16 would be a good angle.

Yeah..... but he sold the moves that mattered... if you want someone to act like a monster Mof and be unstoppable then that guy isn't going to sell a lot of ordinary moves.... norton isn't an ordinary guy... looking at him you seem to just know that it would take something very painful to just faze/hurt him... then you would start the wear down tactic...

Nod. Ofcourse he should sell your big offensive flurry, but a few kicks to his stomach shouldn't really stop him. Repeated kicks should stop him..dropkicks should have him stagger and a devastating flying forearm should have him fall against the ropes

I think all big massive guys should have a weak spot. Mostly it is their knees so just low dropkick the hell out of them..clip it, etc..and when they are down work over their ugly mugs..

true..... it's always fun watching the big bad mofo being taken down... but still it was great watching norton stalking to the ring and knowing that what he was going to do to someone would look like it should cripple someone...

Some of my favorite WCW memories are the matches between Norton and Benoit.

My eyes popped out the first time I saw Benoit absolutely plant Norton head first into the mat with the most incerdible german suplex I ever saw. He just tossed Flash like he was a cruiserweight. I always loved Norton (especially w/ Buff) but it was his matches with Benoit that turned me into a Crippler mark.

My name is E-Z-E, and I'm a Kordell Stewart mark.

Vicious & Delicious ruled.
You had Buffy for your offbeat shenanigans and some decent wrestling too in those days..and then Norton would come in and DESTROY.

Weren't they up for a title reign at some point when The Outsiders pretty much split up? Too bad THAT never happened. I wonder why, though I might guess the answer..
nWo pecking order..(Not meant to rag on Hall/Nash or anyone)

I'm going to have to jump in on the 'Guys like Norton can't really quite sell the same way' because, to be honest, with that much muscle on you, things don't feel the same. I punch to Norton, even if its to the face, wouldn't, in real life, be nearly the risk it would be to say.. Jericho.. because his body is so dense, its not moving as far, no matter _what_ you do.. single offensive moves like punches should, at worst, slow Norton down.. flurries should stagger him to let them try to setup something big (moves that work well on bigs guys for something big that come to mind are things like drop toe holds and bulldogs)

To be quite honest, I'd have a piss-fit _if_ I saw Norton out there selling like Norman Smiley.. because the psychology involved in big guy fighting, and the way it looks, is simply different.

To back this up, I want to reference the Superstar Billy Grahmn's website, when he was giving his throughts on Scott Steiner.. it was a show when he had someone (can't remember who) in the Recliner, and the Cat came out, and hit him with a not-very-stiff chair shot and he went down.. Grahmn went off on a rampage about how someone his size would take at _least_ two to three shots to the back before he went down.. especially from someone like the Cat, who wasn't particularly top heavy.

Scott Norton was, and hopefully still is (I don't get to see Japanese wrestling ), in my opinion, the perfect Big Man.. because he's the right size for it in nearly every way.. there are guys who are taller than him, which offers a variety of big guy action.. guys who have more girth, which is another big guy matchup.. and put him against someone smaller, and it becomes the ultimate david and goliath (short of Spike vs. the Big Show) showdown, because he has decent height and muscle from hell. Add to that the fact that he's among the best stiff workers I've ever seen (and that seems harder the bigger you are, to control it and not injure people), and you have one of the all around best guys in wrestling.. now if only he ever got a push!

No one's asking Norton to get knocked around like Spike Dudley. The problem is that Norton has exactly two gears -- No-Selling Monster and Oh Hell It's Time To Get Pinned So I'll Collapse Now. There really needs to be a middle ground. Selling is what separates the great wrestlers from the so-so, because no matter WHO you are or how big you are, it's your job to entertain the crowd. A one-sided squash where the opponent's offense is brushed aside is boring as hell.

I agree that Norton's a stiff worker, but not in the sense of the word that you meant.

Cena vs. Cesaro seems like it would be quality. They should do a double turn with Natalya and AJ. Have Big T turn on AJ, cost her the title, and form Legirlcy with Nattie. edit: Lega-she. of course.
