I think Scioscia got credit for keeping the team together in the wake of Nick Adenhart's death.
Kirk, crackers are a family food. Happy families. Maybe single people eat crackers, we don't know. Frankly, we don't want to know. It's a market we can do without.
Between Adenhart, early injuries, and the fact that the team didn't really look like much until about mid-season, I'd say Scioscia deserves it.
I think the Yankees comparison falls apart entirely when you actually compare the two teams. The sum of the top two salaries of the Angels' - Hunter and Guerrero - equals the salary of Alex Rodriguez. And the Yankees have five additional players in the top 25.
The Giants and the Dodgers have players (Zito and some guy named Ramirez) who are paid better than Hunter.
The Angels didn't even have a real pitching staff until the All-Star break. Hell, Matt Palmer was the #2 guy for a couple of weeks. The fact that the Angels managed to pull out a division championship in the face of all that AND a surging Rangers team is more than enough reason to give MotY to Scioscia. The only other reasonable name to give it to would have been Ron Gardenhire.

I couldn't agree more!
Seconded. When you look at their starting staff, who outside of Scott Baker would scare the opposing team? He overcame a large deficit with that group and especially without the help of arguably his best hitter in Mourneau for at least the last month of the season. He deserves a lot more credit for keeping that team competitive than he gets.

I say that's all more evidence for Mauer to get MVP, inarguably their best hitter, and game-manager for their unimposing staff.

I won't argue with that at all. Mauer absolutely deserves the MVP. It's just that I think Mourneau has a case since he's a bigger and usually more consisent run producer then Mauer. In a somewhat weak lineup, that might make him more valuable.
Not according to this: http://www.nypost.com/sports/yankees/32014.htm ---------------------------------- Said e-mailer Chris Woodard, "Do not sign Pedro Martinez! It is a horrible idea for several reasons. It will destroy team chemistry.
