I avoided the new mini-series because of pre-conceived dislike (my mistake apparently as I'll be hitting Best Buy or Amazon to pick it up). Due to the local flooding, I was off work all week and caught most of Sci-Fi's original Galactica daily marathons (including all of the Galactica 1980 eps most of which I had never seen) and decided to give the new series a chance.

I'm glad I did. As stated earlier, it appears I was wrong to have not watched the new mini. "33" was a very impressive ep in my opinion. The cast did a good job of conveying the intensity of the situation and their weariness because of it. I didn't know some of what was going on at first, but was able to guess, especially when the character having the visions of a hot babe (apparently a Cylon) was called "Dr. Baltar." That was an instance where using a previous character's name made everything make more sense for me. Great tension, great special effects, and great acting made me stay up for the second ep "Water," which was also good has hooked a new viewer.

I still don't like "Starbuck" being played as a woman, but I'm sure I'll get over it. "Boomer" doesn't seem like that great of a name for a female either, but oh well. Again, having not seen the mini, are we sure that the "Boomer" with "Helo" on Caprica is the real deal or another Cylon? Are we certain the one on the Galactica is? Why did they pick her to emulate? I'm going to have to pick up the mini and see, or wait and see if it's explained as the season goes on.

I saw that 9-10 eps have aired over in the UK, but I didn't read any of the spoilers.

Anybody else have any thoughts?

"The 6-5 Seahawks are leading the West by one game. They have lost five of their last eight. They lost to a 4-6 Bills team at home last week by 29 points. They have Jerry Rice starting at WR, wearing Steve Largent's number and running fly patterns with a pitchfork sticking out his back. They are being routinely outscored on Sundays by Rashard Lewis, Ray Allen and even Vlad Radmanovic. On the bright side, it's only Year 6 of Mike Holmgren's five-year plan." - The "Sports Guy" Bill Simmons hits the nail on the freaking head

I really like this show. They have fixed so far at least all the campiness of the original show.
The Six sexing up Baltar is his head will start to get really old fast though. Hopefully that stops and they explain how six is able to talk to Baltar like that. She is obviously not just a figment of Baltar's imagination so what how is she talking to him? Also I like the new Baltar for now. The old one made no sense what motivation did he have to exterminate his entire race?
The old series was fairly sexist by today's standards so making Boomer and Starbuck women works with other Sci-Fi channel shows. For now I can live with it even though I really don't care to see Starbuck and Apollo get together but in general I am very anti-shipper so that's just me.

I was very skepticle when I heard they had cast a woman in the role of Starbuck. But she pulls it off, she has just enough hardass, sass, and cuteness to be perfect in the role. The Cylons being able to be humanoid was done well too, although Baltar constantly having sex with himself in front of everyone is creeping me out. Boomer's struggle with her Cylon nature is developing into a great storyline, and is it just me or is she HOT!
If the show can do well for the first season I think it has a shot of being a long running series.

This might be the best sci-fi show space action I've seen. Reminds me a bit of FOX's "Above and Beyond" but surpasses it in script quality.

The miniseries is a fine, fine production. Good writing, great effects and genuinely affecting direction. I held off watching this out of base cynicism, but what I've seen is shockingly good stuff. I really like the low-tech parts of the Battlestar, and the effort put in to fleshing out all departments of the ship, expecially the hangar crew.

In the miniseries, they showed multiple versions of the same Cylon "person", including Boomer. And, considering the alternate "6" they showed that was "shot", and the reaction of yet another "6" after they fled, it would appear that this is some sort of Cylon trap, but for what purpose we don't know (ie, what could Helo know that they couldn't find out from Boomer? Are they just going to "clone" him into a new Cylon?). Overall, this was the first Sci-fi I have started to get into since Babylon 5. Nice job, and I look forward to seeing more.

Well there could be a lot of reasons to have "Boomer" rescue Helo.
1. Boomer likes Helo and since Helo helped out Baltar also 6 owes him a favor.
2. The Cylons are going for some weird human/Cylon hybred. 3. This one could go with 2 or 3. With Boomer and Helo they have a spy on Caprica to keep an eye on things. The Cylons are not just interested in killing all humans so they might as well keep an eye on them.
I don't think there is a "real Boomer" anywhere. I could be wrong but I don't see how the real Boomer could possibly be the one with Helo. There was no oppurtunity that I know of at least to switch them and why bother anyway?

From talking with some other people, this was apparently another mistake of missing the mini, and my assuming things based on the character's name. Or another argument of why the writers should have come up with new names. Your choice.

They say you shouldn't burn bridges, but Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. does just that, in a good way.
