41-year-old Red Sox right-handed pitcher Curt Schilling will have season-ending shoulder surgery to correct a tendon injury, and there's a fairly decent chance he's thrown his last pitch, ever.

If so, there's no doubt he'll always be remembered as the wearer of the Bloody Sock in the 2004 ALCS against the Yankees. Schilling is a three-time World Series champion (2001 with the Diamondbacks, '04 and '07 with the Red Sox), a six-time All-Star and has a career postseason win-loss record of 11-2.

this looks like the biggest name player dealt so far with Soriano. I don't know why Texas was so down on him. the trade makes little sense for them, they got two outfielders and that was the position they least needed.
- skorpio17, Soriano traded to Nationals (2005)
