I don't know how much of a stomach any of you here have for fantasy booking. I just thought of this scenario, and could actually see (at least part of it) being plausible. So anyways, here's how *I* would write the Raw brand storylines, starting with the Shane McMahon-Eric Bischoff match at SummerSlam:

SummerSlam

Shane O'Mac comes to the ring, waiting to pounce on Bischoff. "I'm back" plays, yet Bischoff is nowhere to be found. After about a minute, he appears on the TitanTron:

Bischoff: Hey, Shane. Your mother says hello. I just wanted to let you know that I am NOT going to be able to make our little match tonight. Scratch that, I don't FEEL like making our match tonight. I have nothing to prove.

Shane protests loudly, bringing out Austin. Austin demands Bischoff show up at ringside.

Bischoff: Steve, I'm not even in the arena tonight. Forget it.

Shane is about to go find him before Bischoff proposes an idea.

Bischoff: Hey, Shane, you know what? You still own the rights to WCW, right? You remember WCW -- the wrestling organization I built from the ground up? I know you had to give up running it after Survivor Series two years ago, but I would like to have rights to the name. It holds a very special place in my heart. So I'll tell you what, Shane, you agree to put the WCW brand on the line, and I'll find a way to make our match tonight.

Shane agrees, and Bischoff makes his way into the arena about halfway through the show. Exiting his limo, Bischoff bumps into Vince McMahon. Despite the whole raping-his-wife thing and trying to become a competitor again, Vince is actually in a jovial mood.

Bischoff says he's got something for Vince and hands him back his keys to the house. They share a laugh over that one, and it's revealed that Bischoff is the one who set up McMahon with the return Sable back in April. Before they depart, Bischoff asks Vince one favor; if he could show up for Raw the next evening. Vince agrees.

The Shane-Bischoff match takes place third last on the show (come on, like it wasn't going to be that high up ANYWAYS), and the finish comes when Linda McMahon tries to attack Bischoff, but Kane runs to ringside and threatens her. Bischoff uses the confusion to his advantage and pins Shane. WCW is his again, but as JR points out, he doesn't have a television contract.

Raw (Aug. 25)

Vince McMahon opens the show and reiterates what JR said the night before to Bischoff: He may have the WCW name, but he doesn't have a forum for it. Bischoff agrees and asks Vince what it would take to buy the Raw time slot and roster from him.

McMahon: Raw, or any of the programs done by World Wrestling Entertainment, are not for sale. End of discussion. (fans start cheering for Vince).

Bischoff: I hear you, Mr. McMahon, and I know you're a reasonable man. What if we.... made this interesting?

McMahon: What did you have in mind?

Bischoff: Well, I was thinking, Vince, I was able to defeat your son Shane last night, but that was kind of a fluke because he's just a punk kid. What if... I was to face someone, anyone of your choosing on the Raw roster. If I was to pin this person's shoulders to the mat, cleanly, would you consider putting this program and roster on the line?

McMahon: Anyone of my choosing?

Bischoff: That's correct.

McMahon chooses none other than the NEW World Champion, Bill Goldberg, which makes Bischoff more than a little nervous. The two agree that no outside interference will be allowed, and the title will not be on the line (at Bischoff's choosing "Unlike you, Vince, I wouldn't want to have to run WCW and be its champion at the same time." he says to a round of boos.)

You can probably tell at this point how the main event goes. Goldberg simply drops the ground and allows Bischoff to pin him, 1-2-3. McMahon comes out to protest the decision, and is nailed with a chair by Chris Jericho. Shane McMahon is next, and he's attacked by Kane. Finally, Steve Austin's music hits and he enters the ring, tries to figure out what happened.

Bischoff is standing at ringside: "Steve, get the hell out of my ring.''
Austin: "Why don't you make me?"

Goldberg then spears Austin and poses with the World title. Bischoff gives a final monologue to end the show:

Bischoff: Next week, you people will bear witness to the return of WCW Monday Nitro, here on Spike TV. And there's not a damn thing anyone can do about it. Oh, and Vince, just wanted to let you know that WCW returns to pay-per-view next month with 'Unforgiven'. That's completely appropriate, because I've never forgiven the McMahon family for what they tried to do to MY company (repeat that line often throughout PPV commercials).

And there you have it. Keep in mind, this is not an invasion angle (that one didn't work because McMahon wouldn't allow 'his' stars to be humbled by WCW guys). Plus the fact that there aren't enough active WCW wrestlers on either roster to make it look threatening anymore. This is simply the start of a new WCW, thus Kane being on Bischoff's side.

Love to hear what you folks think.

It's a well-written scenario but I'm not gung-ho about it for a few reasons:

1) I'd like a moratorium on shocking swerves like Goldberg laying down for Eric. We need less of these and more of logical developments after weeks of suspense.

2) I'd much rather have ECW return. So if you did this scenario with Heyman and SmackDown, I'd be all over it. ECW = more eye-catching matches, more creative fans, better theme song. of course SD already has Benoit, Heyman, Eddy, Tazz, the FBI, Rhyno, and Rey so it pretty much IS ECW.

3) I don't want any more Eric on my TV. He's had his time (3 minutes?). Shane should get and control RAW. And I say that only because he's the sole McMahon who hasn't tried to be involved in every second of TV time. Of course after a month of RAW O'Mac, I might wanna launch him into space as well.

I like this.

I like Bischoff's line at the end about the McMahons.

Of course, none of this will probably happen, but at least this interested me.

Interesting scenario, but still ignores a couple of things:

1. Raw is a much more valuable brand name than Nitro; I don't see them risking such a switch when business is already vulnerable.

2. The WCW brand ain't never comin' back!

Eh, I don't know about that. You did forget Tajiri by the way, but I don't really consider Benoit, Eddy and Rey as ECW wrestlers even if they were there at one point. They really have more WWE wrestlers like Matt, Cena, Taker, Angle, Lesnar, and WCW wrestlers like Kidman, Mysterio, Kanyon, etc. Besides Raw does have RVD, Dudleys, Lance, Spike, Stevie, Dreamer, and Al Snow so it's not like Smackdown has more than Raw. I'm not sure how over the angle would go. I know ECW has a lot of hardcore fans, but some might not know what ECW is at all, while pretty much everybody is going to atleast know what WCW was.

As for the original idea I see two flaws:
1. Why would Vince just give Bischoff a chance to get his show, I mean what would Vince get in return if Bischoff loses. It would have to be sometehing pretty big for Vince to agree to put his number 1 show on the line. And I'm not sure Eric has anything that valuable to put on the line.

2. Well this scenario sounds like the WCW wrestlers (Jericho, Goldberg, Booker, Steiner, Hurricane) are heels and the WWE wrestlers (Triple H, Orton, Batista, Test, Christian) are faces. That would be switching around a lot of characters who are really better at the part they are playing now.

I knew I was gonna forget somebody. Sorry, Tajiri. I'll buy you a Vanilla coke.

I agree that it's becoming less and less practical by the day to bring back WCW or ECW as properties. And it's a shame that legal wrangling and corporate ego made that happen, especially with ECW. It could easily have been a subsidized promotion to bridge the OVW training ground and the full-time shows like SmackDown and RAW.

Bulldog's right though: Something has to be done to change the WWE formula of revolving McMahon ownership and strategies. Bringing in Eric hasn't worked because he's a slapstick punching bag for the WWE heavies (Vince, Austin, Hunter, etc.)

With SummerScam now in the books, I guess my scenario just isn't happening (not that I really thought it would, but still...)

Although... Linda McMahon just kind of... slapping Bischoff was almost a good a payoff as what I had in mind :)
