Originally posted by Hogan's My DadYou guys have no idea what you're talking about in regards to Hogan/Rock movie career comparisons. First of all, all his movies made money. Maybe it was 15 dollars, but they didn't lose tens of millions of bucks. Secondly, try to understand if you would that Hogan was never put in the position that Rocky was. Hogan's movies were all B movies. No Holds Barred and Suburban Commando were not like the Scorpion King and The Rundown, they didn't have huge studio support. Wrestling, when Hogan made his movies, was still a taboo subject which hadn't been outed and people weren't exactly waiting with open arms for Hogan's success. I'm not making excuses for him because he would have failed as an actor anyway, in my opinion, but that being said let's not pretend he and Rocky had anything resembling an equal shot. Rocky has several more tools.
Good point, but InVerse's is better. Hogan is soooo much more of a cartoon character, in terms of looks. He's an unnatural color and he has a stringy gold wreath around his head. At best, he could play a washed up biker who gets his ass handed to him in a major action picture.
Plus, he can't act worth a shit.

On a related note, does anyone know if there is a site listing the Rock's quotes from over the years? I've searched google but can't find much on it. I'm not sure how to search Weinerboard without going page by page, and there are a lot of Wrestling pages.

I caught a sneak preview last night (a rare perk from work in getting free passes.) It was prolly the better out and out action comedy I have seen in a long time. Seann William Scott and Rock had excellent chemistry with each other. I will not be surprised to learn Monday that they will have gotten a sequel on the fast track. And of course it must be seen for Walken. He delivers the best Walkenism ever. (For those not in the know of Walkenisms, watch each of his movies. You will note he makes a point of telling a wierd story that is based tenuously around the point his character is making, ie his turn in Pulp Fiction.) Rundown was a great film. See it. It's worth seeing again.

You can do it by typing your search terms into Google and then putting site:wienerboard.com after them. Just tried that searching for the word wrestling on this site and got 27,000+ hits.

After watching Raw it really hit me how much The Rock has passed wrestling. While hyping the good reviews with Roeper and Ebert, Al Snow makes a crack about Siskel and I thought, "Why on earth would Rock want to come back to this." He really doesn't need to... Scorpion King probably needed the WWE cross promotion. I don't think this movie needs it at all, Rock has made it and is bigger then the WWE.
The thing Rock has over Hogan is that his look and personality doesn't come off as stereotypical wrestler. He comes off as a GQ model type movie star and I think it translate well on the big screen that you don't see a wrestling pretending to act but you really see the character actor that the Rock just happens to be portraying... Hogan (and HHH can be put in this category) is the portrayal of stereotypical wrestler, which McMahon (father & daughter) adore, which is their right. But I think more mainstream viewers/media look at that and snicker and think (rightfully or wrongfully) "Haha look it's muscle-brain juiced up dumb wrestler".
Rock got good reviews from a real tightass movie reviewer in my local paper, gave it 4 out of 5, best review of the weekend... I'm happy for the Rock and really rooting for him to do well.
Which makes me wonder if WWE is rooting for him. If this movie is successful The Rock would slip more and more into Hollywood elite and away from wrestling... I find it funny how HHH and Nash jumping at the opportunity to step in the Hollywood door The Rock opened. Why do I get the mental image of the MXC game of a hundred people trying to rush and fit in one little door in the game wall bangers (I think that's the name LoL)
The way things appear at times, it wouldn't surprise me if Vince sees the Latino ratings numbers and just draws the conclusion Latinos are just waiting for more of his daughter's breasts and A-Train.
