So, I've been watching Adult Swim this evening, and to my utter shock, a commercial airs after Family Guy heralding the arrival of Saved By The Bell to the Adult Swim lineup!
Now, I'm quite torn. Because on one hand, amongst other things, we'll all be able to once again guffaw at the antics and schemes of partners-in-crime Zack Morris and Screech Powers and the other hilarity that ensued at Bayside High, be compelled! by the battle between Zack and Slater for Kelly, and once again try to figure out just how Tori fits into the SBTB timeline.
On the other hand, however, I can question this decision, as it may just be an attempt by Time Warner heads to breathe life into a TV franchise that, while it aired on sister network TBS for seemingly a millennium, became so played out that somehow, the middle school episodes (where the gang all lived in Indiana, including Mr. Belding!) gained resonance and became interesting... ummm, maybe not.
Enough of my speculation though! What do YOU all think?

I saw it at the same time you did. Personally, I'm annoyed. I don't watch "Adult Swim" to see retro programs that've been beaten to death by constant re-runs over the years. I mean, it's bad enough that Sunday nights are tainted by the unfunniness that is crap like "The Squidbillies," "12 oz. Mouse," and other recent crap they've thrown on there. Now I have to watch old, recycled crap on top of it.
What's sad is that the "Adult Swim" block used to be appointment television for me. Now, I catch it once in awhile and see something like that, and it just annoys me to no end.

Actually, I couldn't figure out if this was a joke. If it is, it's not funny. And what is with this new trend that Cartoon Network has of showing non cartoons. Kinda negates the name of the network.

But it's not Cartoon Network, it's [adult swim]!
Also, this reeks of
a) desperation b) someone finally realising that maybe showing ATHF episodes for the 10,000th time won't pull the big numbers after all c) an MTV-like evolution towards programming which is hugely popular - or at least more popular, yet turns off all the original viewers who originally watched the network for its (videos|animation) and are left with making message board posts consisting of "they suck, they don't play (videos|animation) anymore"
In a perfect world, NOBODY tunes in to "Saved by the Bell" and since the ratings tank, they stop experimenting along these lines.
I just don't understand. When we saw the commercial last night we thought it was a joke or maybe still a part of Robot Chicken. There is nothing adult about Saved by the Bell (except when Jessie got hooked on speed). Granted, if they did a sort of Sealab thing where they gave all the characters new voices and re-edited the episodes then I'd be all about it. This makes no sense, otherwise.
EDIT - I just checked the AS homepage and there is no mention of Saved by the Bell anywhere. This sounds fishy...
(edited by VanillaSky on 10.4.06 1411) That's not Wolverine...
I'm actually hoping that this is a joke as well. A somewhat pernicious joke, but one nonetheless. I've despaired over some of [as]'s programming decisions as of late, such as the aforementioned Squidbillies, 12 oz Mouse, that Perfect Hair-whatever it's called, and Minoriteam. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that SBTB won't air.
Adult Swim is a victim of its own success, in my estimation. And now the programmers probably feel that they can get away with throwing basically anything on their line-up and pass it off as being quirky. I mean, good grief! They've shown that weird Gary Coleman cartoon, that Chuck Norris cartoon, and re-ran that Spumco-created Boo Boo cartoon over and over again on the weekends. That was... strange.
I think it's safe to say that most of us who watch Adult Swim have pretty unique senses of humor and all, but really, this is too much. And to boot, DVD releases of ATHF, Robot Chicken and so forth almost obviate the need for me to watch much of [as]'s schedule anymore.
Let us all chant-- NO ZACK MORRIS ON APRIL 17TH! (just kidding-- but only on the chanting part.)
I'm checking the zap2it schedule for Cartoon Network on 4/17, and I don't see Saved by the Bell anywhere. (though Zatch Bell kept giving me quite the scare when perusing...) Given that there's a distinct lack of confirmation for this, I have a feeling this was probably a delayed April Fool's joke.
Unless they are going to do SBTB spoof on Robot Chicken. Come to think of it, didn't Screech make an appearance during this week's episode? Perhaps that's what the bumper was riffing on?
Damnit with face palm! Another commerical for Saved By The Bell with Zach, Screech, Slater singing Barbra Ann...Starts Monday at 12Midnight UGH! Someone shoot me now...wait this could be the cure to my, when it starts airing, insomnia.
At least the run will only be for two weeks. The running joke last night with the [Lame 80's Live Action Television Show Network] in the corner was, well, lame. Why do the networks love pissing off their fans?

Either we're gonna get actual episodes of SBTB or (I'm guessing here) re-dubbed episodes to make them funny (Err... FUNNIER!).
Seriously, do you people hate Zack and Slater THAT much?
If they re-dub the episodes, I am DEFINITELY looking forward to the "Very Special Episode" where Jesse takes caffeine pills (or whatever the producers decide on this time).
So I was watching Moral Orel, and I noticed that there was a tag for [crappy 1980s live action network] in the corner, and then I watched Robot Chicken and there was another ad for Saved By The Bell.
It's supposed to start this evening at midnight. This is a bad sign.
I hope it is overdubbed or something. I'm TiVoing it, but I hope that doesn't send a bad message to them.

I just thought of something regarding [as]'s airing of Saved By The Bell-- can you imagine how viewer curiosity alone may positively impact the SBTB reruns according to the Nielsen ratings? Especially in regards to the aforementioned Jessie-caffeine pills episode? And yet, do you think there'd be any way I'd actually MISS that episode? Talk about some sort of psychological dissonance!
"I'm so excited! I'M SO EXCITED!!!! I'M SO... SCARED!!!!"
I would love to see an overdubbed version of SBTB, but we don't get the AdultSwim network (or the channel it shows on) here in Canada.
I'm not hating on SBTB, though...I still get a kick out of it now and then. It's not TERRIBLE, but it's not as bad as half the stuff mentioned in the One Questions forum.

I think the problem most of us have is that it is not a cartoon.
CN has been having one hell of an identity crisis this here and we've had to watch go through its own personal puberty... Snow Day? Really guys? SERIOUSLY?
I totally missed midnight while I was playing with some new video editing software. Anyone catch this? Was this just a straight-up airing of the show or did they pull some funny business (e.g., redubbing)?
It was played straight. Yeesh. I never liked that show. Putting it on the CARTOON network did not improve it. God bless TiVo so that I never have to watch this abomination. I have seen the first and last episode of SBTB on AS that I will ever see. If they don't want to alienate the dual fandom they've built up (you don't really think the anime fans & 'adult humor' fans associate with each other, do you?), they had better kill this thing quickly and never speak of it again.
